    Gray sheet is not high retail. It can be retail at times for certain coins but coins often sell above gray sheet.

    I am probably considered a lazy collector, but when I find a coin I like I buy a bunch so I get a good deal. I currently am waiting for about 2000 nickels from 4 years that I really like. When I can get a good deal I buy bulk figuring if I like them someone will eventually want a few from me and I will have a bunch, or my grandkids can sell them after I die. If 1 is good 500 is better. I am clearly starting with modern easy to find stuff. I still don't understand how people can sell PCGS graded coins for $3 plus $4 shipping.

    I never understand some coin shops. They sell at some random price for many items, then go wild on others. I understand higher prices when a dealer is searching for a specific coin, but many dealers sell more than grey sheet, and I think that is wild in competitive markets. The other odd one is charging high prices for modern Maples or Britannias. That one I just do not understand. I try to shop local, but rents are cheap where I live, and prices are too often high.

    There are some regular dealers at the large coin shows that sell at retail plus but not quite as expensive at Littleton. These rarely sell that many coins but often have a large inventory of low value raw coins. It's ok for them to sell a $20 coin (say a 1865 3CN in VF) for $35 since it's a small transaction. These dealers will often use Coin World values for pricing since they are higher than the redbook.

    @@CoinHELPu So I am feeling the need to get myself my first morgan ,peace and silver eagle dollars when i get paid in a week.i have a maximum budget of around $250 . am I throwing my money away getting a low end morgan that fits my budget and allows for a graded peace dollar and An A.S.E. in that total price limit? Can you suggest anything to help me acheive my goal such as , would i be better off with a gsa morgan in its slab, or broken out and put in the pcgs slab labeled as gsa ? Or neither? Are there any special peace dollars distributed like the gsa morgans from another. Agency or company? Would any particular ase be worth looking into and still fall under that $250 total mark? Are there any ike dollars that are worth looking into as well? Also whats with the gsa soft packs versus the gsa morgans in hard cases? Are those anything worth looking into? Sorry that I have so much to ask and that i am pretty steady with the questions.

I used to work in a Wholesale/Retail Bakery's and all the concept's are the same no matter what your selling! thats how the Bakery Businesses worked. then Grocery stores, Huge Chain stores! they Buy Millions of one Product and sell a little bit below other stores for a limited time. and A huge Bakery whole sale will have reduced prices then people come in and buy one or two thing's and sell retail.

    I was just now trying to find a website that I stumbled upon the other day that was selling at wholesale I think bcuz they were selling in lots of 1000 coins and bigger. The site looked like a ledger with lines of their inventory and it was 25-50,000$ for the one line of whatever coin it was. Can't find it now. Anyone know what it might be. I obviously don't have money like that I was just trying to see what the coins were going for each.

    I'm curious to find out your thoughts on the 'Blue Book'. I also have the 'Red Book' but agree that is fantasy. However I find the blue book pricing to be more in line with what coins are selling for on eBay. It seems to be the most realistic of the price guides I have seen. I don't have access to the "Grey Sheet" so can't compare.

  • @CoinHELPu

    @CoinHELPu

    Grey Sheet is most accurate based on my experience but it's even off, just depends on the coin and grade. The Blue Book is alright but it's not what dealers are paying.

    Great advice. Speaking of whole Sale/Retail. I ran across a dealer who was offering "Morgan Dollars" that he graded as B.U. $50.00 a piece. If you bought the entire bag of Morgan's. He gave what he considered a "Dealer" offer. $30.00 a piece. LOL I was shy of the $3000.00 he was asking for the entire bag. I passed on the offer. As a collector. You have to be alert and shrewd when purchasing. There are very good and trusted dealers out there, that make collecting a fun, and interesting hobby. But as you have said many times in your vid's. There are those you should avoid at every step. Keep up the great vid's I love them.......Go Buck'S !

    Okay Daniel I need a Red Book, Blue Book, grey Sheet, Blue Sheet and... lol Thumbs up! It is not surprising to say that even coin collecting and stacking silver/ gold have their own set of unseen, unwritten rules. Yes there are subtle degrees of politics even in the hobby and business! The Devil is in the details! However, what you see and what you get might differ lol. Reference and resource guides are a great way to do your homework so you know what criteria to follow when out and HUNTING. Everyone has a sense of sentimental value attached to certain things and eye acuity may differ as well. A little diplomacy goes a long way in building report and relationships. I try my best not to get so caught up in a $10 difference in a deal or barter especially if it may very well burn a bridge I might want to cross again later HaHa!

Well I made the mistake of taking all my coins and also looking at my papers i had wrote on & not paying attention to him as he was going through my coins, needless to say he stole my dad's 1943 p wartime nickel & some 1964 d lincoln pennys- like new,and some other coins.then he gave me 20.00 dollars he said for my gas & time for coming up there.i knew then he had took some of my coins. I talked to other coin dealers and they said no we don't offer people money for coming there and they knew what he had done.my mistake I should haven't looked away this was all very new to me at that time.its just a shame people do that to people my dad's coins me alot to me he passed 19 years ago.

Doesn't matter how nice the cents were you can buy BU rolls of these for a few dollars or less. 1943 Nickels for less than $2. If he took them without you knowing that is bad but maybe you or he misunderstood something?
