ICF is name coach factory at Perambur near Chennai. This factory was manufacturing integral coaches with Swiss technology since 1950s. In old traibs chasis and wooden coaches built on top of the same before advent of ICF. Now IC has single shell piece making the coach with wheel set bogies below and did not have separate chassis below Now Railways started manufacturing new coaches with LHB technology from Germany. Basically they are also integrated coaches. Even ICF Perambur have stopped manufacturing old coaches and are building only same LHB coaches. Basically LHB coaches are also integral coaches with advanced features imported from LHB Germany. Vande Bharat Express rakes with same LHB frame and features plus additional advanced features are now manufactured at ICF Perambur and you can see ICF written boldly in the front. This train does not need a separate locomotive but power to run the train is integrated into some coaches like a EMU local trains. One other important feature is they do not have heavy duty lead acid batteries but only small power emergency power backup. Old coaches had heavy lead acid batteries to supply power to coach including AC. These batteries were charged while running with dynamo attached to the axle of the coach. Now power supply for lights, fans and AC units comes from end on generator car with diesel engines or HOG technology with power supply from traction power through thr locomotive.
