Dietitian Reviews CHLOE TING What I Eat In A Day

Hi everyone, welcome to Abbey's Kitchen! In today’s video, we’re going to be reviewing Australian fitness KZreadr, Chloe Ting.
Note:
Chloe's subscriber count has grown significantly since we shot this - my apologies I missed her amazing growth when I edited this video!
A few disclaimers:
1) The information in this video is for education and entertainment purposes only, so you should always speak to a health care provider about your unique health needs.
2) The recommendations for each individual meal I review is designed to give you a variety of ideas on how to optimize meals for balance, variety and satiety. Whether or not one individual meal or even one day is balanced or “healthy” does not matter in the grand scheme of ones health, especially if a person is eating in response to their physical and emotional needs. I give suggestions as examples and inspiration for you, but you can also gather this data for yourself over time by listening to your own body and figuring out what feels good.
3) Please be kind in the comments, here and on Chloe Ting's channel
4) TRIGGER WARNING: some graphics and discussions may be disturbing to some viewers so feel free to skip this video.
5) Don’t forget to subscribe to this channel and ring the little bell so you never miss out!

It seems like Chloe is one of the few fitness influencers who: - truly eats a variety of foods - eats portions which are not the usual toddler size portion you can see from her colleagues in the fitness space - doesn't push the ridiculous idea that if you train protein powder shakes must be one of the staples in your diet

I think she has a relatively healthy relationship with food. She has the privilege of not worrying about losing weight. With her current career, if she gained like 50 pounds, she would probably develop a problematic relationship with food. She does not represent the majority of the population due to less pressure from society to manipulate her body.

I have suffered from orthorexia but I have to say, even when she talks about getting "shredded" I don't find her videos disturbing or triggering in any way. A few of her challenges have kept me sane during quarantine and I really like listening to her encouraging words midworkout. I get the issue with her programs' names but I do believe the issue to be bigger than a single influencer: that is the kind of programs people look for, and she has to make views, Noone would follow a program called "get slightly fitted in 28 days".

Abbey Sharp Yeah, but still most people and most women (I’m obviously I’m not talking for everyone but related to my own experience as a heavy gym goer for over 10 yrs and those close to me as a certified fitness trainer) are going to click more on a catchy name that promises fast results, though it might not reflect their personal goal, than on a less catchy video. The problem is bigger than a single youtubber. And I actually find her not only pleasing but really down to earth with her promises once you get past her catchy title. Obv this doesn’t want to be a critique to your video and your reasoning Abbey, I’m here ‘cause I love your content, it’s just to point out the bigger problem also as a fitness enthusiast myself.

@@ashtonsumpter676 Relationship's can't be held with inanimate objects or abstracta, anyone who uses such a classification is a moron and a snowflake : people pretty much use this "classification" to feel better about themselves due to their lack of something, which is a bit delusional and ingenuine with themselves. "Bad relationship with exercise" means "I don't/can't exercise due to certain criteria", but that "relationship" also implies that it is not just "your" fault that it's a "bad relationship", but also "exercise's" abstracta's. You get it?

Actually they can, it's been a correct way of phrasing for a long time now. In other languages it might not be, but in the English language having a "relationship" with a mere concept is no longer just a mind-opening metaphor, it's common language and your efforts in debating that honestly seem a bit pathetic and wrongly informed. Maybe in your native language a relationship is only reserved for people, but let's maybe not waste our time this pathetically telling people wrong information about their language. Having a bad relationship with a concept like fitness doesn't have to equate to an excuse to never do it again, it just means that there are bad experiences involved and possible traumata to work on - like coming from a real relationship. Maybe spend your time on better causes and research, then your future arguments might be right and of actual value to anyone.

Abbey, I have the strangest request for you. Backpackers have to carry all of their food with them and they also use so many calories every day. There is currently a food revolution going on in the Ultralight backpacking community. It's a love affair with fats and it's fascinating. The scientific analysis is being led by GearSkeptic and his videos are delightful. His analysis is focused only on macronutrient ratios and I would love to have an actual RD weigh in. I honestly think he would too. I also think it's an interesting break from the constant Instagram-culture, influencer-type videos that you have been doing such a great job with. In many cases, thru hikers are going out for months and the challenge of packing enough food, sports nutrition, and what is termed food exhaustion is a real challenge.

I keep going back to the whole sugar thing. Don’t people generally eat too much sugar on a daily basis because sugar is addictive and often found in a lot of food without you realizing it. I think wanting to eat less sugar shouldn’t be an avoidance of your cravings but a goal towards better overall health. Sure have a cookie/ice cream once a while without guilt but learning to enjoy foods without or less/natural forms of sugar takes time too.

Great analysis of her food choices and advice! Only thing I would say is that Chloe's last tip on the sugar craving video was to drink water and you said it wasn't proven to help with hunger, which is true, but it definitely does help with cravings related to food you want, but aren't actually hungry for, which is what the video directly addressed.

I think it’s always a good idea to eliminate or substitute coke. Soda is literally One of the worst things to consume and I think we have to be careful with the idea of coddling ourselves too around behaviors that we qualify as “satisfying” but in the long run aren’t actually good for us. Like I’m all for balance but if a coke lover can get it down to once a week and eventually cut it out, I can just about guarantee, the benefits of how you feel will outweigh the initial stages of craving and seeking “satisfaction” (these feelings go away) which is literally just different ways of describing the total addiction to these manufactured foods. If you like chocolate, even getting up to 55-60% dark is an upgrade imo. In my experience Chloe didn’t contradict herself at all, because the more we practice better habits the less we crave the foods/drinks that have been proven to damage our health/bodies. Overall message seems balanced. Love the series.

Completely agree! I use to be a heavy Coke drinker. I got braces and then I cut cold turkey. I tried to drink Coke again after having the braces off, but frankly it didn't hit that "satisfying" spot anymore. I felt better not drinking it and I'm not as sluggish. It's hard for me to drink any soda now a days. If I get any carbonated drinks its just water.

@@blackarchon8778 While it's good to see the spectrums of experience I believe yours is an outlier statistically. For the overwhelming majority of people that will encounter this comment, cutting out sugary sodas will benefit their health. Exceptions are not rules, and often that can muddy the waters for the larger population when an exception is presented as an equitable alternative, contrary to evidence pointing to otherwise. Sugary sodas (and excessive sugary intake in general) can also be detrimental to your dental health as well. It's important to look at health holistically because it affects you holistically. So while your dietician might say "Go ahead keep drinking a cola every day, as long as you are getting all your nutrients and you feel good." They can only speak for your diet, they are not trained in dentistry, internal medicine, dermatology, or psychology. Abbey "expert" in nutrition only, and even then you'd need a second opinion. She is not trained in other medical fields so check with all your doctors before determining whether or not something is having negative effects on your health.

Not eating any added sugar actually helped me so much with my irritable bowel syndrome. I had huge problems with it over the past 2 years, sometimes I wouldn't make it to the bathroom in time, and since avoiding added sugar completely and taking probiotics from my doctor, I finally can go to the bathroom like a normal person and feel so much better. I still crave sugar and sugary snacks, nut I know they will actually impact my health in a really negative way, so I don't think completely cutting out for example sugar, always has to be a bad mindset when it comes to diet culture, but sometimes it is just necessary for your health.

26:31-26:59 XD Cute, Abbey. I like that you left both versions in, it’s kind of a “No one is perfect” type thing, and I love it. I just want to say, too, that I do think that letting yourself enjoy the foods that you crave is awesome, and I’m glad you emphasized that while discussing Chloe’s second day of meals. Personally, I go with the “all things in moderation” approach - if I have a craving for something like chips or chocolate, I grab a small amount first and enjoy that. If I want more, great! If not, great! I find it’s better for my mental and physical health in the long run.

Sometimes her diet looks very low carb because she’s preparing to film a workout program so her muscles show more, or so she has said. Some of her videos include this disclaimer in the beginning 😄😄

i think a lot of these tips were to help you get off of sugar addiction and such. she never says to never drink coke again, she said to try and lower the amount. with the sugary drinks tip, yeah maybe one a day or a few a week is fine, but if youre having like 3 a day, replacing 2 of those with fruity water is great!

I do enjoy Chloe Tings videos more especially her work out however I find them tough to do. I find that Jessica Smith from Jessica Smith TV are so much more friendlier and empathetic. Her approach to her audience is wonderful so she is also a favourite of mine.

Coconut flour and almond flour cannot be high FODMAP grains because neither coconut nor almond are grains 🙂 Anyway, they cannot be cosidered as high fodmap (and are even not listed as high fodmap in the official chart) because the amount always matters and makes a huge difference as well as the individual tolerance is different for everyone (even for those with SIBO) and makes a huge difference if one tolerates it or not. Which actually implies to any (FODMAP) food. I just wanted to add it as I am functional medicine practitioner and have been specializing particularly on digestive health (which is the gateway to health 🙂).

It was about important aspects lacking in his diet and approach (which you even did not criticise but definitely could/should!). I thought you would find it interesting...so I wish you read it...?

You can. You are so strong. But it can literally put your heart at risk to stay in amenorrhea. This article does a great job of covering the risks and could be something you can walk through with your doctor or health care provider. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6374026/

Becca in Denver I work out every day. I’m going to stop working out at home, but as an athlete, I’m required to go to practice, then to weightlifting 4 days a week. I’m giving myself free reign on food. Do you think this is a good plan? I don’t expect you to know if it is or not, but thank you for your reply!❤️

@@calsesachica6312 Honestly, your doctor and athletic trainer need to talk. Given your diagnosis, they can decide what is safest for you. Either your doctor or trainer can put you in contact with a dietician who can help you come up with a plan to get to a healthier body fat/body weight. Or might have a plan. My primary care doctor was able to give me a specific diet when I needed it for allergies. You can do this. You have to do this. For the body that serves you so well as an athlete, you have to take care of it right back.

I appreciated this review! I actually hadn't watched her WIEIAD vids because I wasn't sure how diet heavy they would be; glad to see they aren't! I've enjoyed doing her videos, and even tried to do a 30 day program. The program was too much for me though, and I realized that I started to obsess about weight loss. So I stopped, moved the scale out of my room and took time to just enjoy other work out vids like Bollyx (think Zumba with a Bollywood twist). Thanks for all the info you share!
