Whoever came up with this fix is a damn genius!!! A whole lot easier than dropping the downpipe.. exhaust.. heat shield..etc..and then dropping the assembly out the bottom..I just diesel geek fixed mine this morning..damn I must say it was easy..

I found that the lower shaft bushing didn’t work. Anytime I pushed the shifter down it would get stuck and I’d have to pull up on it. Even re assembled it did it. Put back in the old bushing and had no problem with it.

This is a somewhat common complaint. The solution, every time, is to remove the debris in the stick housing forcing the bushing closed which binds the stick. Usually the debris are degraded bits of the original bushing. Compressed air and a bit of brake clean can work wonders.

Unfortunately I stripped out the t-25 torx screw holding the bracket on. Tried every trick in the book to get it out. Is drilling the screw out an option or would that damage the shifter?

Do you know the bolt size and thread size of the bolt that holds that arm that keeps that first gear getter in? My car won’t go in 1st easily and won’t go in reverse at all because of that bushing but my bolt is stripped and I can get any bolt from the local hardware store

Hi, I had this problem, step 1, tryand adjust your cables, literally a micro movement is all it may take, reverse is the high up cable end and 1st through 6th is the lower nearest to front end of car cable end,, step 2 its a safer bet to select 2nd gear first then go into 1st or reverse if its not engaging at that moment, it will save you damaging your bushings and other components down the line..

I had the shifter out since it was going into a Corrado. If you remove the shifter box the sheetmetal "floor" comes off quick and easy with needlenose pliers. Makes swapping bushing inside the box a piece of cake.

I bought this kit but your 5mm adjustment pin does not fit. I have an mk4 gti and the holes are smaller. I measured them. They are exatly 4.7 mm a 4.5 mm allen will fit but there is some play. Your pin will absolutley not fit! I would have to drill the holes out in order for your pin to fit.
