Diesel Heater Quiet Fuel Pump Upgrade
Ойын-сауық
I will replace the original noisy fuel pump in my Chinese diesel heater with an upgraded "Ultra Quiet" fuel pump and test it. One of the biggest complaints of these heaters is the loud clicking coming from the fuel pump. Is this modification worth the time and money? I purchased mine from Ebay and it quickly sold out. Just search for "Ultra Quiet Chinese Diesel Heater Fuel Pump" on Ebay if you want to purchase one. www.ebay.com/itm/373933910567

The clip on the fuel pump wiring plug is designed to push in not to be pulled right out (* squeeze the wire clip in an then seperate the witing plug) saves loosing the clip while working on the pump, also no need to try to get the wire clip back into the slot when rejoining just leave the wire clip an push the plug socket back in till u hear it click.

I have the same ‘self-contained’ heater and removed the rubber pump mount altogether, then wrapped the pump in bubble wrap - made a vast reduction in the tapping noise. I was going to make a video the same about this pump but just beat me to it I ordered my pump from China and it cost me £17 and it only took 2 weeks to come and the difference is amazing I can't hear the pump at all there is a slight ticking but it's not a problem anymore for me the pump is brilliant.
For best results: separate the pump, put it in a small box totally filled with fine sand (birds sand). If you suspend the box or put some soft rubber feet under it you will have a quit pump without any costs. Remember to mount the pump a little skew to prevent air enclosure.

Best sound reduction I have seen so far on those pumps, involved using a couple of small bungies and supporting the inlet and exit fuel supply and suspending it from like a lid or seat area. This is more like on the one's not encased but good info.

I swapped a standard pump for one of these from Ali express, mines bolted in the rubber mount to the van floor and was ready to try hanging it from cable ties but this pump is so quiet it’s not worth any more mods. When it’s very quiet I can only just hear it. I think they must have a rubber stop for the piston as the ‘clunk’ just doesn’t travel in the same way... very worthwhile indeed!

can you provide a link or any kind of additional information on the one you bought?
Seems like a worthwhile upgrade at that price. As you say, it’s improved the situation rather than solving the problem altogether but with the all in one heaters it’s likely the best you’ll get. The metal casing acts as a sound box with the pump bolted to the side, even allowing for the rubber holder. Not sure if anything else is possible but I think I’d look at an alternative attachment to reduce the sound a little more. A styrofoam block cut in half and hollowed out to clamp around the unit, instead of the rubber ring, comes to mind as an idea if there’s room to wedge it in place between the tank and the casing.I feel that disconnecting the mount from the case will help, though. After, that it’s down to ear plugs, I guess! 👍🏻

on yours, it sounds like the sound is amplfied by the metal housing panels, like a little drum. On my external-pump type, it's a higher-pitch click. It sounds like yours has a click and a thud sound. I wonder if putting some cheap sound-deadening adhesive foam panels on the inside of that housing would decrease that thud sound. The empty part of the fuel tank may also resonate like a drum, so putting some of that sound-deadening foam on the sides/top of the tank would also help.

I agree and unfortunately I'm stuck with the location since it's an all-in-one unit.
The fuel line between the pump & burner is too soft and is expanding on every pulse so replace it with a more rigid hose. This will provide better & cleaner combustion + help with the noise. A lot of noise is transferring to the steel enclosure thru the rubber pump bracket so get rid of it entirely. Suspending the pump from above and below on a leather or rubber strap or even the old fuel line, hold it to the pump body with another (larger) hose clamp. The idea is to let the pump float quietly in its mount.

You must get the pump out side and far away as possible. Then take out the shock of pump action 🤔. Use a peice of spiraled fuel pipe either side of pump to support it, about 4in long excluding length clamped each side onto the pump it's self will do it, that will safely suspend the pump, or you can use soft rubber suspension set up to hold the pump leaving it relatively free to move a small amountused l used both options, spiraled fuel line double ( clamps each side) and mounted pump furthest away l could get it. Then you have silence. Complete silence. Good luck bud . Martin. 🇬🇧

Short answer is "sort of". The result is subjective. I was hoping to save people time and money by providing information in this video. If you are interested in one, it might be worth watching an 8 minute video before you order and pay for one, wait for it to ship, install it, and see what happens....
I wrapped hand towels around mine for now

Anything to deaden the sound makes sense to me. Thanks.
Seems much easier and cheaPer to just wrap some sound deadener around the original pump and call it good.

I have to agree! 👍
Try suspending it from zip ties instead of using the mount

I see alot of videos on chinese heaters And $1500 heaters I think the Zen would be a $200 that does the job quiet and last a few years a upgraded Chinese heater should do this That being said Take the fuel pump Wrap it like a hockey stick handle with silicon rubber tape Don't throw it in a box with foam Unless you are going into the speaker box business ...Hollow out a dollar store Noodle That you use in pool cut it down to 6 inches throw that over it and zip tie that ...I bet you You have a upgraded pump for under $40

Yes! I have already taken a dense piece of foam rubber and wrapped around the pump to make an improvement. Thanks for sharing some ideas.
You would think these guys would just fit the quieter pump from factory🤔 I can imagine alot of people passing on these on the noise alone!

The noisy pump is a big complaint!
I don’t need a quieter diesel pump, because my wife ticks louder than the pump 😂

I thought it made a difference in the truck but not much of a difference in the window.

@@geenote I hear that!
I turned the rubber mount upside down so that the pump rests on it rather than hangs on it and it is 50% quieter.

Good point. I'm surprised no one has mentioned that till now.
That annoying klicking sound I have found a solution wich I'm going to release after getting it patented!
Don't waste your money, fit the unit outside and extend the tube, hey presto no clicking🎉

That would work. Thanks!
Just hang the original one by zip strip. Problem solved no noise.

Good suggestion! Thanks!
For $40 + labor I call that a fail. Insulate the pump from the case is free and better. If I had one for a camper or bedroom, it'd definitely be outside pumping warm air in through the heater hose. I wouldn't have the whole heater in the window or inside.

I agree. Having the pump mounted away from the main unit would be best for a permanent set up. In my case, I'm always moving this all-in-one unit around. I have more insulation around the pump now which helped a little. Thanks for commenting.

Not much of a difference in the basement slightly maybe you should try putting some of that black plumbing insulation for pipes around the pump should be no problem even a piece of mass loaded vinyl

@@peterlaurancearmenio5545 I have seen similar videos of that same idea. My problem is I want to keep everything inside the all-in-one case so I can move it around to different places. I use the same heater to heat my basement, truck shell camper, and I also just posted a video using it to heat my pull behind RV camper. I wanted to add sound dampening material on the inside of the case but there isn't enough room.
Think of it as a heart beating.
