Diesel Heater and Jackery 500

Another overnight test of the diesel heater. I got a Jackery 500 to power it, so I don't run the vehicle's battery down. I put in 3/4 insulation around the windows. A low profile cot and foam mattress to sleep on. Worked great even though I forgot to grab both air vents, so it had to draw cold outside air instead of recirculating the warm air inside the truck.

Wow. I'm impressed it only dropped 40%. This is a great video. I would love for you to do it and give a little more information! This is the kind of content that is super helpful! I didn't think I would be able to survive off of a 500 with just a heater and smart phone and a single LED bulb but I just might be able to! Thanks from Cincinnati!

That was great and now all the solar panels have to charge is 44 percent and you will be good for another night. 👍 Now , that is awesome and you don't have to worry about the fan stopping on your heater..like forever weeks or months of camping 😉 unless you run out of fuel ? ⛽️ AND, WORTH 💯 PERCENT INVESTMENT 👌 😌 PERFECT HEAT SET UP ...THANKS 👌 🔥 👍

I got some heater vent hose from Lowes (it has a coiled wire frame and foil to keep it from melting/burning). On cold nights I think it works better to have both hoses (one for heat and the other as a return hose) the diesel heater used less battery power when it did not have to heat the cold outside air up to temp.

I just bought a 15 amp 12 volt plug that goes into a car style receptacle that had crimp leads already. However my first over night test drained the battery of my Suburban, I then bought a Jackery 500 (it has a standard 12 volt receptacle) so I don't have to drain the vehicle battery any more.

I had to buy a 15 amp 12 volt car plug. I then wired to provided harness from the diesel heater into the plug. I then just use the 12 volt outlet on the Jackery. I originally was going to use the vehicles battery but the heater drained the battery overnight to where I had to use a battery jump starter, that's when I bought the Jackery.

I have the 5kw diesel heater. Been using a 2nd battery for it. But it sits outside with the heater. Temps down to 20 F. Was looking to get a jackory 500 so it can be inside were its warm. Can the jackory power it for up to 15hrs. Or how along have you run it is 10 hrs the most you have tried.

So far 10 hours is about the longest I've ran it on the 500. But there was plenty of battery left. So I think 15 hours is doable. Especially if you run a return vent hose so it doesn't have to heat cold air.

@@desertdwellers7294 have you ever had any starting up problems with the jackory. I want to get 1 but I noticed the DC input is 12 volts and 10 amps. And I've seen the start up as high as 10.7 amps with the diesel heater.

@@mountainpride, so far I have I haven't had any problems but I've only used it a couple times last winter. Maybe do a set up where it can start with both the Jackery and a secondary source until the peak amperage draw is over then just run it on the Jackery. I'll try to do a start up on the diesel heater this weekend and test the start up amperage draw after it's been sitting in the garage most of the year.

I think the 300 would be good for one night easy. Since I forget to bring the return hose the heater had to warm very cold air all night. Plus I also keep it pretty warm in the truck (15 degrees Celsius, about 59 degrees Fahrenheit). And I ran it for nearly ten hours and was still over the 50% of battery life left.

Cool, ordered it. I had been looking at 500w, the Bluetti too. But the jackery 300 with solar panels was a decent deal. I figure this will be good with camping since I often park the van for a few days and don’t drive enough to recharge everything.

@@daddunfinished3953 How is your 300W working out? I have a 1000W in my teardrop and my 2kw heater takes that down to 80% after running for about 10 hours. So assume that would be down to 30% on the 300W. Was thinking of a backup Jackery to use, but don’t need another 1000W model.
