Diesel brothers made big money break the law and they hurt the health of their community. And by televising their disregard for the law and people's health they inspired other scofflaws to do the same. The fine is punitive to punish them and as a deterrent to others that might follow their example.

We, just in America have tons of ULAB’s, Mining and Ore Processing plants, Lead Smelting plants, Tanneries and Industrial Dump site all over major cities. Just those factions alone produce and have been producing and still are producing more toxins in the earth’s atmosphere than any truck on the road today and before. DPFs do not "clog" after 30,000 miles, most modern diesel engines including light duty ones in pickup trucks do a process called regeneration where they superheat the DPF to clear the particulate build-up inside, most of the time it is passive generation meaning it can happen while you are driving or idling the vehicle and besides any indicator lights the operator of the vehicle wouldnt even notice it happening, as it has no effect on the vehicles operation. DPFs are intended to last the entire lifespan of the vehicle, and should only be replaced as necessary, usally in relation to other component faliure causing damage to them.

The largest polluting waste of fuel is getting the vehicle moving again after stopping for nothing. Not only synchronized lights but sensors that tell you to speed up or slow down to offset intersecting traffic. I would rather slow down 20mph a 1/4 mile before the intersection then have to stop at a light. With today’s technology this should be a no brainer. Why do you have a problem doing your part? The emissions equipment is on the vehicles. They have plenty of horsepower and torque even with all the emissions equipment on. There is zero need to remove it and throw 5x the fuel at it when the engine can't burn all that fuel and just blows it out the exhaust as black smoke. Power numbers on diesel engines keep going up even with all the new emissions requirements. These guys weren't building work trucks that needed an extra 400hp to haul equipment. They were making toys that were lifted 12+ inches and had huge wheels and tires. They are making show trucks which will never see any real work and have no excuse for bypassing emissions to give them more power. These clean air laws don't negatively effect you in any way, shape, form, or fashion. Your individual rights stop when your actions have a negative effect on others. Polluting vehicles, especially dirty running diesels, cause respiratory problems every day. So your individual rights are not being infringed on. I don't remember the constitution saying anything about individuals being able to pollute the air for everyone else. Driving a vehicle and owning a vehicle is not a protected right here or in any other nation on earth. The fact that you think these people's rights were taken away leads me to believe you don't know your butthole from your elbow when it comes to "individual rights" at all.
