    God, i am an asian in Asia and I am surprised that there is such a huge generation gap. The young dont know much about MJ? He is the pioneer of a lot of moves. How can they not know? I am shocked before when I heard people dont know Barry Manilow or Hall and Oates but this tops it all.

    The reason some of the moves Beyoncé does are so similar to MJ sometimes is because her choreographer, Chris Grant, danced with MJ for the This Is It tour and he’s heavily influenced by him. I love how everything always makes a full circle back to Michael 😁

    @@ritamcbee yes...then he added his own signature moves. That MJ pose was all his, as were many of the moves we have come to identify with him. The parts of Mr. Brown that he embodied likely contributed to the groove, as did whichever of our masters of days gone by influenced Mr. Brown.

    The thing most younger people who are just discovering his videos don't know is....not only did he dance that good, he choreographed those dancers for his performances, and danced with them WHILE singing! Talk about breath control to be able to do both. Same with his sister Janet.

    To do that lean - MJ literally invented the shoes to help them all do that - he actually has a patent for the shoes that let him do that lean. When this video came out and he did that lean - folks lost their minds. MJ is legendary - watch all his videos and you'll see pretty much everyone copied him.

    Yep. Even as a kid before he even hit puberty, he was still an amazing singer and the lead singer of the Jackson 5 since he was 6 years old. And all his siblings were singers at some point too.

    5:57 MJ did the Leaning trick in his music video with camera angles, but he also wanted to do it live for his audience, so he patented shoes with a special hollow heel that would hook into these little rods that would pop up from holes in the stage. They do that dynamite part to distract you from seeing Michael and his crew essentially hooking into those metal rods with their special shoes, you can see how they have to step backwards a little bit before they can move again when they lean back up. edit: 6:00 you can see the right-most dancer actually get his right foot STUCK on those rods I was talking about for a split second.

    Most musicians would've just avoided doing that part onstage, but Mike knew he couldn't let the audience down. It takes a LOT of core body strength to do that move though.

    Um, MJ copied a lot of moves from the great Fred Astaire. You can look up some of his famous routines and you will be shocked because you will recognize some of MJ's most iconic moves. That is no disrespect to Michael. Just to be able to dance like Fred Astaire is amazing. Michael also was creative in his own right.

    Not only could he dance... it was instinctual. His backup dancers would be perfecting their moves for weeks. MJ would show up one day, watch them for a minute and go, "Okay, let's do this". And he DID!

    It breaks my heart to so many of the greats (Micheal and BRITANY come to mind) entertained us, but had so much isolation and loneliness in their lives. Many times used and betrayed by the very people that should have been their biggest supporters. Loved Michael from his earliest days in the Jackson Five.

    I’m sure these ppl have seen Michael dance, it’s just some of the dance moves are only in smooth criminal and if the haven’t seen smooth criminal music video it’s not surprising. I can’t think of any other time he does the move where he leans forward and pulls himself back up with his ankles except in smooth criminal.

    Brown, Usher, Neyo they all tried to imitate him but didn't bring anything new to the table. Michael studied his idols but innovate his stuff and made it his own. Even Beyonce has her single ladies, but these guys added nothing iconic, worth remembering.

    The Lean: There are pegs that come out of the floor that hook into slots on the heals of his loafers that pretty much "nail him to the floor" then the lean is done, he slides out of the pegs. SUCH a good trick! The King of Pop.

    Michael Jackson designed the shoes and pegs idea himself. If you look really really careful you can actually see one of the background dancers have 1/2 second of trouble unhooking himself as they continue the performance. Also the guy coming on stage with the dynamite and the siren was to take your focus off of Michael and his dancers for a couple moments while they hook them selves into the pegs to do the lien
