Tory Lanez talked the most sense on this , the OG wanted to sound like the YNs but the YNs wanna hear the OG do that OG rnb sound, but I’ll say this Capella Grey is bringing a lot of that back, plus Tory Lanez is a creative genius when it comes to bringing back a sound without destroying the core value, hence the TPAIN remix. I think it’s coming Capella Grey needs to take this giant opportunity and shift in music with everything he’s got.

But Diddy has to accept his part in the demise of R&B… he had talented artists signed to Bad Boy (Faith, Carl Thomas, 112, Total) and he didn’t push them to their full capabilities….and he very well could have… so I agree with what he’s saying but again he needs to take accountability as he had a hand in the demise…

Melodic Rap killed R&B. It’s the most popular music in the world and R&B artist comprised their authenticity to fit the narrative. Rappers haven’t rapped since Ye, Wayne, and 50 start harmonizing Ari Lennox, Jasmine Sullivan, Tory when he wants, DVSN, Lucky Daye, Summer Walker, etc Those are the names that come to mind when I think of pure quality R&B

There's a new "Urban Alternative" radio format. It's the black version of the "AAA" format. There's 6 stations in the country so far: Vocalo (Chicago), Hyfin (Milwaukee), The Drop (Denver), The Vibe (Houston), Carbon Sound (Twin Cities) and Hot 91 (Norfolk). Alternative Hip Hop and R&B, mainstream Hip Hop and R&B that fits the format, 80s 90s 00s 10s and 20s....major hits, moderate hits and album cuts from all types of artists. You know those artists who have a large following but get no play on the radio? (Denzel Curry, Joey Badass, Vince Staples, Doechii, Big Krit, etc...) Those artists get played right along with mainstream artists. These are all live stations with DJs who take suggestions from the audience. They even play some House, Dance, Afrobeat and Jazz tracks. It takes about 10 minutes to realize that it's better than commercial urban radio has been over the last 20 years. It already has a strong grassroots following and can really blow up if the people support it.

JD and B. Cox spoke truth. The real death of R&B is when all these singers who didn’t grow up singing in church started coming in the game. R&B lost the feeling it used to have because majority of the successful artists learned how to convey emotion and sing from being in church. Faith Evans, Kelly Price, Usher, Brandy, Monica, Toni Braxton, Whitney Houston, SWV (Coko), Xscape, R. Kelly, Carl Thomas, etc. They were all church kids. 💯

Real Good R&B songs get into your soul, you can feel that ish. When you come out of that 80s-90s-00s music era, this R&B nowadays is just in the toilet. Jazmine Sullivan, Muni Long, and Ari Lennox are good singers, but in my opinion they need better songwriting, and better production. Their music is still not measuring up to where R&B was even in the early 2000s. A lot of these people out now can barely sing, the song writing is horrible, and the production is subpar. Too many trap producers call themselves producing R&B. And a lot of these producers nowadays are just beat makers, they are not real producers. Summer Walker’s music is horrible, I don’t care what anyone says. Her and SZA are mumbling singers, the music sounds horrible. The songwriting for them is horrible. Summer Walker can be much better, she needs better song writing and she needs a real producer. Khelani straddles the fence, she has better songs than most of these chics. But her songs could be better. Ella Mai in my opinion has the best production and songs. H.E.R music is good, but it’s too dark, and her singing is OK. She’s a musician not so much of a singer, similar to Alicia Keys. H.E.R. should probably be more so a producer/songwriter. The male R&B singers besides Bruno Mars and Anderson.Paak…I don’t even know what they are doing.

@@NorthPhilly-zr7xc I agree. That’s why Diddy said there should be a measure. If you can’t sing you shouldn’t be in it. But even if the singer isn’t that strong of a singer, the songwriting is key. The production is apart of the song writing. That’s why the R&B of the past was so good because of the songwriting & production matched with the singer’s level of talent. Like Janet Jackson wasn’t the best singer, but she worked with a production team Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, who were phenomenal producers and songwriters. That matters.

I agree with Tory Lanez that the OGs should’ve made sure these people were making quality songs. That’s an opportunity for the OGs to song write and produce. And I’ve noticed that bridges and rifts are not in the music, that’s why the songs and production are so poor quality. it’s laziness in production.

All it take is one major r&b artist with a different style to sell alot of records and streams. Then watch the whole industry dub the formula. That's how we got too this point. T Pain was major. Artist like him and Kanye West's 808 and heartbreak literally shaped the modern Era. Also as much as I respect these Ogs the new wave will not come from them. It will be up and coming artists and producers. They might fund them. But I hope love music returns. 🎶 usher is great but so is Chris Brown. And they canceled R.kelly 😆.
