Only issue is that this movie takes place before the first one so she should actually look younger. Doesn’t matter too much still enjoyed the film. Especially the twist.

@@ubergamer2010 they’re literally not being “NITPICKY” it’s a valid criticism. Just because you love this movie doesn’t mean you have to be annoying and overbearing to anyone who has criticism. The fact that this takes place before the original movie is a BIG criticism and one could argue they should have hired a young actress so it would be believable. As much as I loved the original, this one doesn’t do it for me because the girl is quite literally an adult, doesn’t matter how many angles/makeup,etc they use.

I like that the the theory that the reason she doesn’t look like a child in this one as opposed to the original movie is that she hasn’t quite mastered looking and acting like a child yet since this is her First Kill. This makes sense since she would already have had years to master it by the time of the original movie.

I actually like how she looks older, since this is a prequel I think she’s supposed to look as old as she’s supposed to be, because since it’s her first time tricking a family (I assume) she’s not gonna have fake teeth, and makeup on like in the first movie, it shows that she actually learned how to look younger than she actually is

It is understandable though because the actor has grown up more and caused it to be a bit harder to put on makeup that looks exactly like when she was younger

They don't use CGI. Behind the scenes they use young girls to be Stunt Doubles for Isabelle Fuhrman as Esther.

Isabelle was awesome as always! So glad she was able to reprise this role. She’s wonderful and underrated. Orphan will always be one of my favorite franchises.

A lot of people say that Esther still looks very old, is because Esther learns from her mistakes of her makeup skills, and she improves it by making herself looks more like a child in the sequel “Orphan”

In interviews the actress who played Esther herself said there was no CGI used at all in the film.

She no longer looks like a child though even with the cgi and make up. They should have added a prequel right away when she was still younger. I think she's crazier and scarier in the first movie

I thought it was great that she looked older because she’s an adult. She was so good. The way she walked and everything was great. She committed to it. There were even moments where she was mocked and called a “dwarf” so the movie did a good job at pointing it out. Everything is fine. This movie was a pleasant surprise. It’s really fun.

To people in the comments who are confused: this same actress played the same character in an earlier horror film that was made nearly a decade ago (or more, I'm not quite sure) and has now reprised the role. So, yes, she definitely doesn't look like a 9 year old, but she 10000% looks like someone trying to PASS as a 9 year old. Plus, people who have already seen the first film will associate her with how she looked in it and thereby buy the cgi/makeup etc. even more!
