The team at Agrination donates our leftover eggs to the Agouti Unit at the University of the West Indies Field Station so they can be fed to the animals housed within.
The Agouti Unit is used for research and breeding purposes with the goal of earning a better understanding the animal and moving towards domestication. And we can say with confidence, that a lot of beneficial (and ethical) research is currently being done.
This is just one of the many ways we try to implement out zero waste / integrated farming system approach.

Agoutis are close relatives to guinea pigs and other caviidae ( capybara, mara, moko etc ). Actually , in non-captivity, they live 100% vegan. But pet cavies also sometimes eat industrial food containing protein they would never touch in the wild. Interesting to see these beautiful animals being domesticated. They act & behave like larger guinea pigs. You can see early variations of coat and color, a sign of domestication. Can you crossbreed all kinds of dasyprocta or do they all belong to the most common agouti species dasyprocta leporina ( red rumped agouti ) ? I know I am being very scientific but I wanna know.

Yes, after all they are in the Rodent Species, (Rats). The same That cause Laser Fever, mostly in Africa.
