Did we find the books Byron used to create the Secret Treasure hunt???

After years of telling listeners to use reference material from the 80's Cory Gilbert decided to do just that. Inside his World Book Encyclopedia he found direct links to the puzzle, and what may very well be Byron's reference material!

I would buy a World Book volume every week at my local grocery store as a kid. They were the first books I bought with my own money from shoveling snow. I’d buy one a week. But some were more expensive than others. And I think there might have been even a commercial for it on TV. It’s so strange and cool how this puzzle has intersected with my life and brings back so many memories. Thanks fellas!

In the Boston riddle, Byron used a quote "If Thucydides is North of Xenophon" which points to Boston. The names are on the side of the Boston library and people think this is where the solve should start. But ... If you go by the points made in this video about Byron having done research on cities, I think it's quite possible he never knew the names were up there on the library. That he always wanted the solver to start in the North End at Paul Revere's house or church which is only 200m away from Langone Park.

Out of the hundreds of names of historic people on the building, those two were likely to be there. You can find all the names from the other completed solves there for example, Mozart, Beethoven, Apelles, Pindar, Socrates, Lincoln... are all on the building, so it'd just be a magnet for any solver to go to. I think its unlikely its the correct answer to that part of the verse, especially as its like a 45 minute walk to Langone Park. It'd be really weird if it was the intended answer to that part of the verse imo.

This is a fun video. I like that you are trying to get into the mind of the author. It seems like a good idea. Having said that… it’s a classic case of overthinking. You don’t need encyclopedias to solve the puzzles. Or calculators. Or protractors. Or any profound knowledge. You certainly don’t need a higher degree of education. As a matter of fact, that obviously works against you. I believe a child could solve them. A person only needs to understand a couple of keys to solve them all. Funny thing is, I don’t think that the people that actually unearthed the casques even realize the rules. I plan to dig one up very soon (I don’t live near any of the major cities.) Once I have that one, I plan to use the same method to uncover the rest. I don’t want to reveal too much because I don’t want y’all to ruin my fun and dig up the casques before I can get to them. But I will say this… in this video is a key word mentioned by the guest towards the end. That one word is the lynch pin for the whole lot. And you all have been dancing around it for years. 😁 The picture. The verses. That’s all.

There absolutely is one in Milwaukee as confirmed by one of the original creators. The question is where at in Milwaukee?
