I know !!!! I bet they had some popcorn with them,
The two dudes in the back at 1:38 are me watching this go down.
Katsuji was doing too much for his restaurant wars, but John was really slow in al of these clips. John messed up the tickets for sure and as head chef, he failed at this job too. And that's when he isn't helping on the line because he thought his only role was the tickets, but Casey had to work on her desserts as the host. Katsuji was right. John didn't plate, and with no dish of his own, he should have played a bigger role in helping prepping and plating every dish that came out of that kitchen. That's a given. John thought he had an easy job, but he didn't pull his weight through this challenge. The unfortunate thing was that they edited out the comment from Sheldon saying he too thought John would be on the line helping to plate, but John distanced himself from the cooking. John not helping to prep FASTER and not helping plating the food is like competing with one less person.
From these clips it seemed like John was purposely moving at a snails pace.
No doubt Katsuji needs come communication skills and an attitude adjustment but John really got in the weeds here and was blaming everyone else for his mess. He expedited so poorly and (at least on camera) felt so highly disorganized during prep AND during service.

the dude was rude as hell but let's be honest: this wasn't sseason 1 and at this point we all know how heated the kitchen can get in this particular challenge! also, the dude was doing way too much while the supposed "executive chef" was working at a glaciar pase!!! john dropped the ball, he could be focused, fast, proactive and up to par with his line chefs but he just felto too comfortable in his ways and got sent home, in this competition if you snooze you loose and if all of this was katsuji´s game he fell in it and lost
Who else thought that if her team won Restaurant Wars, Casey would have won? I definetly think so, because she managed to do front of the house and a dessert ON HER OWN, and fix everything else so the diners would have an amazing experience.
Jennifer Carroll from Season 6 was my fav chef. She would not have put up with this kind of bickering. I can almost hear her sternly say, "If you're not talking about the food and focusing on putting out the best plates, shut the f up and get to work." And everyone would have done just that.

You saw what happened when Robin got out of line with the Voltagios? The executive chef is the boss. But John could have done a lot more, but neither of those guys were ever going to win.
Wth was John doing? As EC you'd expect he'd do the most work, but he seemed to be doing the least - Katsuji and Sheldon were cooking his share, Casey stepped in with Expo...
That gave me anxiety
I wonder if after Katsuji regretted choosing John over Emily
I feel like I don’t really goto many family style restaurants… I can only really think of one, maybeee two that I’ve ever been to. but on Top Chef I feel the chefs often decide to make family style restaurants and I’m not sure why
I've always felt that Katsuji is a twist. I get a super shifty vibe from him, like there are a lot of people in his past that he would claim were jealous, or mean, or insecure, or prejudiced but that in reality saw through his manipulative actions and questionable behavior and decided to exit, stage immediately.
For those who didn't see it: This was a manipulation by Katsuji. He knew, correctly, that most of the time if restaurant wars goes badly, its front of house or the head chef who falls. He also figured, again correctly, that if they won, the guy who was most responsible for the menu would get the win. So Katsuji setup everything to achieve those goals. I am thrilled the judges saw through this ploy and sent him home anways. If the guy was born in a prior century, he'd be a machiavellian dictator.

If that was true they would have sent Spike home in season 4.

@@Daniel-mw7pu I think they are just saying in general that’s how it goes… not that it is a hard set rule that is religious followed, but in general that pretty much is how restaurant wars plays out

When the White dudes do that, it's strategy. But when Katsuji does it, it's manipulation. Cool.

You'll have to point out anywhere I suggested/implied that this has anything to do with Katsuji's ethnicity or how its relevant to this discussion whatsoever. In fact, name me another time in the show where someone tried to rig restaurant wars like this?@@chrisaugust7992
I cant believe so many people fell for Johns 🐂💩! Ive seen every episode, every season, & John is one of the biggest manipulators & liars theyve ever had. Katsuji has a big, sometimes bombastic personality, but much different imho, than Johns. You dont have to agree with me but I encourage you to go back & watch the episodes John is in (season 10 & 12)
Can't stand Katsuji. There are a LOT of strong willed, dominant personalities on Top Chef but he has a dark, selfish, sociopathic side to him.

That slow clap he did was… wow… smh… I’m really have to hand it to John was just sitting their and letting him do that cause i am just home watching and even I felt like standing up and hitting Katsuji for that lol
I don't understand these "family style" places. Unless I'm eating at a Chinese restaurant with a lazy Susan, and a table of 6-8 people where you can order multiple dishes....Why would you go to a restaurant and all eat the same food?
Katsuji is so manipulative and condescending and rude.
