The sugar issue is more like the Ndebeles calling Shona people Amasvina or amatshona.... there's no meaning or truth in that. Myself I only heard it once that Lobengula sold out the country for sugar immediately I dismissed it. My grandfather also dismissed that. Zimbabwe is for everyone who love it I believe so. I am told that part of the deal between Lobengula and Rhodes was the supply of some horses and the clothes of a victorian gentleman. So the images we have of Lobengula were posed and not his usual attire (a London gentleman on a horse). A couple of the records regarding Lobengula say he had an extremely sharp mind.

Much of this narrative is still Eurocentric colonialist history. Thompson was held captive in Mthwakazi for over a year because of the fake Rudd Concession that the King had not signed and he only found out through newspapers of the Cape Colony that criminal Rhodes had flew to England to present a document supposedly signed by the King of Mthwakazi. King Lobhengula never signed any Rudd Concession and the diaries of those white men will more than likely tell a better version as intended to their families. There is also the mater of this Manyika Treaty, signed by the Mashonaland chiefs allowing the colonisation of Mashonaland, 3 years before Mthwakazi /Matabeleland was to be colonised.

Treaties were a Berlin Africa Conference requirement. Just a ruse of demarcation of what belonged to whom among the Europeans. The documents were fraudulent and unenforceable at law. The suggestion that Lobengula sold out is ludicrous and ridiculous. Military invasion was the determinate. Hence when the Colonisers occupied Mashonaland since 1890 they were ready to strike. The Ndebele fought the bravest fight against the British Colonisers assisted by some Black people. Guess who?? Some were the Xhosa also known as the Mfengu among others. The British had waited until they had the Maxim gun. The mighty Imbizo fought a gallant fight. They defended the country. Never sold out.

First lets face the fact that Mzilikazi, a Zulu general who defected from Tshaka and journeyed north, colonized the land of the Mashona tribes by force and his son in turn gave the land to the European settlers by treaty and concession. The settlers did not take it by force. One thing that was left out was Lobengula suffered from gout and morphine supplied by the Europeans would give him a brief relief. This made him dependent on them and so its important to note that there were many moving pieces in Lobengula's entertainment of the desires of the settlers. For every move the settlers made, they wanted some form of legal/covenantal cover. Our people already understood covenant because in the time of famine, you could pledge your children in exchange for a loan of grain and if you failed to pay, you had to give up your children. My grandfather's second wife was payment for al loan from Gore Renzara( the year of famine) so Africans understood that treaty and agreement on issues was sacred. Yes Lobengula got tricked. But such is the way of the world.

Who are you,are you working for zanu.you are trying to divide Zimbabwe on tribal grounds by bringing useless issues like this.we also did history in school, history it is.so my friend the issue you are trying to bring up belongs to the past .why do you have the mentality a backward being.such issues don't bring food on the table . Zimbabwe is marching forward ,not digging old stories that won't solve our already crippled economy.channel your energies on progressive issues.
