Not blackballed because the Hughes Bros would’ve caught a hit. Just felt like out of the younger/up and coming cast members were “one trick ponies” except for Larenz Tate, Clifton Powell, and Jada Pickett-Smith. All and all, they never took true advantage of the wave of that movie for future roles. How Caine tells it in his interviews, he’s been in more fights with rappers, singers, actors, and music execs than starring in films.

In 1994, I know Fox had Larenz playing a PG rated O-Dog in that show South Central 😂 J.Lo was in a few episodes and it was done after two months. That experience probably motivated Larenz to avoid being typecast as much as possible. Obviously that show was trying to cash in on the success of Menace.

1993 is different than 2024. Versatility is the key to longevity in the industry today. 1 of my favorite new directors is Barry Jenkins, as his ability to be versatile as a director and present different aspects of the black experience. I also like Mershali Ali as he, by far, is my current favorite actor, and there is a reason why he is a 2 time Oscar winner is his Versatility in the character he plays He has the ability to come across as believable on screen. Menace is a classic, but I believe the film, unfortunately type casted some of the actors as often happens in the business. Hughes Brothers unfortunately missed a great opportunity to capitalize on the success of Menace by not working with Larenz, Tyrin, and Mc Eiht. These artist embodied each character they played, and I left the theater a believer. Hughes Brothers should have cast these individuals in another movie, such as Dead Presidents, although Larenz was in the movie. Their performances were excellent! Hughes Brothers also missed an opportunity to work with 2PAC again as the fallen out could have resolved. The issues 2pac had was being publicly fired ( as the Hughes Brothers could have told him 1st), the movie studio originally financied the movie because of 2pac and Hughes Brothers connections to 2pac although the Hughes Brothers would argue otherwise, and 2pac not wanting to play Sharif as that would have put him as a supporting character ( 2pac was a star and had stared in other films. To be reduced to a supporting role was disrespectful at best), also 2pac repeatedly asked for clarification regarding the character( 2pac did what other actors of caucasian dissent ask of their directors everyday which is give me insight into the character, give me background). But this being the Hughes Brothers 1st major film saw 2pac as difficult and didn't want to risk an opportunity of a lifetime. Hughes Brothers will always be known for Menace as it was a great movie and a classic.

Don't mean this in a bad way, but it was a cast full of the street guys used for street roles. Tons of Italian mafia movies most of the guys play the same roles or not used at all

Jada Pinkett, Clifton Powell and Larenz Tate got more roles ...I think that Tyrin Turner got typecast...the Hughes Brothers brought Larenz back for Dead Presidents but I think the Hughes Brothers did not want to deal with the same actors and actresses...Spike Lee kept Bill Nunn , Giancarlo Esposito , and Ernest Dickerson with him...John Singleton kept Regina King , Ice Cube, Laurence Fishburne, and Tyrese in the mix....not everybody is built like that!

The point that's being missed is that, Tyrin is not really a good actor. It worked in Menace but his other roles were trash. Everyone else did come up from Menace. Who says the Hughes Bros were supposed to use the same cast. Why? You use who is best for role period.

Tim burton made Johnny depp his personal star for his movies. Look up how many movies Mr Depp did for Tim Burton. How many movies did Denzel do for spike Lee. These relationships are real but Tyrin be getting loud with directors and writers that why they don’t cast his azz. I read about how he gets loud when they ask him to read and acts like he the boss. So yea These relationships go far but not when ur hard to work with!

True but they both did a lot of work before Menace too. Clifton played a cop in Deep Cover, and a more "sophisticated" drug dealer in Roc. Larenz had been on The Fresh Prince and Family Matters. And both were on Matlock, so I think execs likely viewed their performances as great acting. I think with Tyrin since it was his first major role, execs probably put him in a box as a street guy who just cast in a hood movie.

Let’s be real, the only person who really had talent was Larentz Tate, Jada Pinkett and Clifton Powell. That’s why they were in more movies and shows afterwards. Tyrin Turn downfall is his speech impediment. He can act but he’s not that great of an actor.

Black Americans are the only race of people in the world without a country (it’s not Africa. We’re not Africans - history lied to us again), the only race of people in the world described as a color, the only race of people whose original language was removed, but its people are still alive, the only race of people in the world who when they start a movement it gets profitably hijacked, 100% of the time, the only race of people in the world who creates trends outta nothin’ from the streets and somehow it makes it to corporate boardroom w/o any royalties to our community, the only race of people who were the largest workforce to build the U.S.🇺🇸, including the White House, and don’t really own anything of notable value. All this is the result of a lack of analyzing. Therefore I will take your discredit as my compliment and hope you take even more responsibility for the life God gave you my friend. You can more accurately label me as a reader of the Holy Bible and follower of Jesus Christ👍🏾.

What year will it be when Y'all realize that this Guy couldn't "act"? He wasn't Black-balled or type-cast; he wasn't believable as an actor. Every line sounded like he was reading from a piece of paper. _Menace_ was a good movie, he was okay in that movie. Does that automatically qualify him for a part in _Star Wars_? 🤔
