There's the saying from Dark Knight, "You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain." With Ice it's kinda the other way around. Back in the day, people made fun of him and didn't take him seriously, now he's getting nothing but love. It's nice to see.

Suge established dominance in the room with his armed entourage, intimidating VI into signing over a percentage of his record sales...for no return. I have heard different versions of this story from Ice himself. In the 90s, he was on an ABC news show and narrated the story with fear and anxiety in his tone. However, in the following years, he downplayed the story, making it seem less sinister. While I understand that people tend to rationalize traumatic events over time, Ice's attempts to justify the ordeal as something for the greater good is a clear coping mechanism. The truth is, Suge threatened Ice and he had no choice but to submit. Even today, Ice may still feel humiliated and intimidated by the experience.

I remember getting tickets to your show back in 1991 here in Ottawa, Canada. Everyone in my school was jealous because they could not go because it was sold out. I am happy I got to see you perform live even though I was really far back in the crowd. A few days after the show my Mom brought me to get a hair cut and I told the lady that I wanted a hair cut just like you. She replied that it was not possible because your hair cut was complicated and that you had people doing your hair for you. Then I said ok then, let's do an MC Hammer cut and then she laughed and whispered in my ear and said "he is black, it won't look good on you kiddo". The 90's were awesome thanks to you brother. You had a big part in starting up the 90's in a great way for music and entertainment. Thank you for the memories and good times!

That story of being hung over a balcony came from Vanilla Ice himself. It was in his Behind the music episode or one of those shows. I remember watching it and him telling the story. It's good that he can find the positive in his interaction with Suge Knight but it borders on victim denial and that's not right. Suge Knight was a menace and should never be written off as "I was glad to be a part of the rise of these other stars" in which Suge treated and exploited the same way. He just gave Tupac some money anytime Tupac would express concern about his financial situation. Same with Pebbles and TLC and same with a lot of others that exploited the artists they represented.
