Did Spirit really find hot spring deposits on Mars?

Ғылым және технология

Episode 132
Hot spring deposits on Earth preserve evidence of microbial life, including from nearly 3.5 billion years ago. So it was big deal when the Spirit rover on Mars discovered evidence of similar deposits, but is this the right interpretation?

Mars Guy and a cup of coffee is my Sunday morning ritual now. The look back at the relevance of discoveries made by earlier rovers is really interesting, even more so since you're tying to current research (your own) back here on earth. Great stuff!

When I was hunting rabbits, it was amazing how many features started to look like rabbits as well. Our brain is quick to see what it is familiar at seeing from the past. That's where the processing power of our brain has to have a check, check and check again feature. So a visit to Chili sounds like a great idea, to look at features in a 'new light'. Hope you are able to get away alright and have a nice trip Mars Guy.

Awesome that you're tying Mars observations with your own Earth observations. I cannot understand why your channel isn't more popular as you do a spectacular job in every regard. I guess meme videos are simply more appealing ;).

From the numerous Mars images you've seen, do you happen to have a sense of where we might want to begin looking for mineral deposits that would be useful to mine for future human settlers? If so, that would be a cool topic for a video. Oh, and good luck in Chile!

Another great video about an interesting feature on Mars. I hope your field trip to Chile goes well. I visited the Altiplano of Argentina many years ago, and we looked at some hot spring deposits that were being mined for borates. The volcanoes in Chile are very impressive but I didn’t get a chance to cross the border.

Thx again MarsGuy and have a good trip. My mom used to live on La Palma - until the new volcano erupted two years ago and its lava slowly, but steadily approached the house of her and her husband and finally simply buried it under 15 meters of lava! It was very sad, they had put a lot of effort in making it a beautiful place. But they are fine, back in Switzerland and after some mourning back on track. They still visit now and then and just yesterday she sent me a drone picture of a local newspaper of the new crater. And this looks a lot like these chilenean ones! Very colourful, yellow, grey, pinkish-greenish, brown and still smoking almost two years after the eruption came to a stop.
