Greetings from friend of friends Ashutosh! Friends, welcome to "The Bollywood Files" for more entertainment and fun knowledge in less time. Today's video presents many such things related to the life of the wax doll, shining face and beautiful actress Helen, about which you might not know.
Friends, let us tell you that Helen has worked in more than 500 Hindi films. In this video, you will get a chance to come face to face with the excellent work done by Helen in Hindi films, as well as the many unknown pains hidden behind Helen's shining face.
Helen was the first item girl of Hindustani cinema. A dancer who created a stir with Indian classical dance. But he also took cabaret dance to the peak of popularity in India.
It was Helen who introduced ballet dance to the Indian film industry. Helen won people's hearts not only with her dance but also with her sizzling beauty. Helen, whose name on hearing people's mind says, "O beautiful lady with beautiful hair, don't know where..."
Helen was born on 21 November 1938 in Yangon area of Burma, which was also earlier known as Rangoon. His father Desmier George was an Anglo Indian. Whereas his mother was Burmese. Helen's father died when she was still young.
His mother remarried a British Army officer named Robert Richardson. Helen's mother had a son and a daughter from her second husband. Helen's mother had just become pregnant for the third time from her second husband when Japan attacked Burma during the Second World War.
The Japanese bombed Burma heavily. Helen's stepfather was killed in an attack by the Japanese. To save her life, Helen's mother took all her children with her and started running towards India.
A large convoy of people fleeing Burma to save their lives headed towards India. Helen and her mother, along with her younger brother and two younger half-siblings, were facing great difficulties in their journey to save their lives.
These people continued walking hungry and thirsty for many days. Meanwhile, many people in his convoy died of disease, while some were left behind. Some villagers were helping these people a little on the way. They used to give them water and food. But that journey was very long and food was very less. Somehow Helen's mother reached a British Army camp with her family.
The British Army helped them and finally, after a journey of 9 months, Helen's family came to Dibrugarh in Assam in September 1942. That exhausting struggle had left Helen and her mother devastated.
The condition of both of them had become so bad that the British Army soldiers had to admit them to an army hospital. When her condition improved, Helen's mother came to Calcutta and started working as a nurse in the Army Hospital.
Only two years had passed since they came to Calcutta, Helen's younger brother died of small pox. The death of her son devastated Helen's mother. He decided to leave Calcutta. Then one day Helen's mother came to Mumbai with her family.
Helen's mother joined a nurse's job in a private hospital in Mumbai. Helen and her younger siblings were enrolled in a government school. But since Helen's mother's salary was not high enough to afford the education of all her children, she discontinued Helen's education.
Even though she did not want to, Helen obeyed her mother and left her studies. During this time, Helen's mother became friends with Kukku More, a famous dancer in the films of that era.
Kukku More, an Anglo-Indian dancer and actress of Indian cinema. She was known as the queen of film dance and the "rubber girl" in Hindi cinema in the 1940s and 1950s. With her talent, Kukku More made cabaret dance a must in Bollywood films during that time.
When they became friends, Helen's mother requested Kukku More to get Helen some work in films.
Then Cuckoo More advised Helen's mother to first get Helen trained in dance. Only then will he be able to get some work. On Cuckoo's advice, Helen's mother got Helen trained in Kathak and Manipuri dance.
After that, with the help of Cuckoo More, Helen started getting work in films as a chorus dancer. Released in the year 1951, the film "Shabistan" directed by Vibhuti Mitra and the film "Awara" directed by Raj Kapoor. In both these films, Helen got the opportunity to work as a chorus dancer for the first time.
