Did I Just Get Kicked Out of a Lounge?! Crazy AZERBAIJAN AIRLINES Adventure
I took a flight on Azerbaijan Airlines, and ended up getting myself into a spot of bother in the lounge.

I had someone call security on me at the Newark airport because I had arrived a few hours early for my flight and was wandering around the nearby gates taking pictures of planes. I wasn't paying much attention, but I heard one of the guards arrive and briefly spoke to a gate agent and the guard seemed annoyed that he was called out.

@@noelphilipsHi Noel. Thanks for the review. Did you need any kind of visa to transit through Baku?
My father was on a flight in Africa in the 1960s. They handed out eau de cologne sachets. He then watched someone open and eat it. They had heard about the sweets and assumed that they had just been handed one.

With tag lines like this, Noel could be a star PR executive for the airline! I have had to watch this video three times as I kept falling asleep - that is how tiring Noel's journey made me! The video and commentary was excellent, however.
No one kicks out my favorite travel KZread channel! Hope Rachel is well.
It's a clapping marathon after landing 🛬 on each of your Azerbaijan airways flight 😁
The cake was not cake it was butter, absolutely brilliant 🤣🤣
You mentioned the A340, of which I have fond memories. I used to do the JFK- AUD (NYC -abu Dhabi) run a couple times a year, and it was always on an Etihad A340, in the absolute heyday of Etihad. I loved that plane - I didn't want the flight to end! The service back in the day was incredible. I always knew when we were almost home to 'Dhabs (US expat), as we'd fly over Mosul and the pilots would take the plane to max altitude to avoid any SAMs. The engines would scream and the sky would change to a deeper colour.
These videos are lovely, I really enjoy being able to see you explore places and airlines that aren’t as well known and quite often they are really nice

I truly appreciated how happy you were to get the candy. Your enthusiasm is very infectious.
Yeah, Wardair used to pass the hard candies out on flights when I was a child going to visit my grandparents in England, but had eliminated it themselves as a cost-cutting measure just before the merger with Canadian in 1990 (which 9 years later merged with Air Canada, causing what were the three major Canadian airlines in the 70s and 80s to all become one). A good trick if you can't get any candies or lozenges in the shops at the departure city airport, is to suck on your mouth (while holding your breath for short periods of time) as if you did have a candy, which will draw air from your inner ear to prevent a pressure difference during climb. Then, when descending, take a deep breath and try to exhale while keeping your mouth closed and holding your nose, which will force air into your inner ear and again, prevent painful pressure on the ear drum.
well-done, Noel: red-carded out of an airport lounge! yet another badge of honor for you!! cheers!

With your arrival into Kazakhstan, I think everyone is waiting with bated breath for the next SCAT Airlines video...
Hope Rachel has fully recovered. You made me laugh out loud about eating the butter! So you are a lounge spy?? Too funny, they did give you a nice bit of stuff though. Be careful where you film, Noel, you don’t want to be labeled as a spy or a lounge lizard! LOL

Great video! I admire you doublechecking yourself being completely sleep deprived and jetlagged to make sure you don’t leave something in the cab, wisely done. Smart choice to use an official cab so you don’t get scammed and taken out the middle of the desert and left. Safe continued travels.
Very entertaining and fun to watch. Thanks for posting this.

Mr. Philips, I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude for the video. Your abundant wisdom enriches our Sundays. For Christmas I wish a video vlog on board European Air Charter MD82
That reverse direction take off is pretty common at Medellin’s JMC Rio Negro airport. Arrivals are from the South and generally departures to the North. However longer haul flights (say to Madrid) and Cargo take off towards the south. Because of the high elevation any additional help is useful. The runway slopes to the south and the terrain in that direction is at least initially a little friendlier.
Awesome video as always! It's sad they kicked you out...

Another great video. Can't believe they kicked you out when you weren't even filming much more than yourself! May I just say, you're editing is very clever particularly at 17:20-to17:24 where your commentary to camera seems completely like its all one shot, you only notice in the back ground the waitress disappear.
Thanks for the review Noel
Fun review, as always Noel...didn't realize you're now a Yank😁 I flew with Azerbaijan Airlines back in 2016 on the Dreamliner from JFK to Baku, and actually the configuration you were in is considered Comfort Class and the front of the cabin is Business Class. Those seats are a lot more comfortable and offer a full flatbed experience but it's still in that antiquated 2-2-2 configuration. The food and service were wonderful, they kept offering more and more entrees and drinks for every meal, they were almost insulted when I said I'm full and can't possibly have another bite. Lovely people, the Azeris 🙂

What I love about it is that you can rarely ever feel any turbulence. The pilots are apparently trained in Turkey. And the food is pretty good.
I was wondering if there was a VIP in the lounge that did not want the camera. But I remember a friend had this happen once and he offered her $20.00 and she took it and that was it. Amazing.

I used to fly Azal when working out in Baku, used to do the LHR direct flight to Baku, they did mainly use the Dreamliners, however, I was lucky enough to fly on the A340 once back in 2019, it did seem quite dated then. It was a 2-4-2 seating config in economy. Was a decent enough flight tho. I always favoured Azerbaijan airlines over others that flew there.
The best to Rachel! The best to you too!

Hi Noel, The foot stool is like a "squatty potty" stool in the U.S. My daughter bought me one for Christmas one year!!! Supposedly if you are having trouble pooping if you pull your legs up a bit it's supposed to help. It was so strange and I appreciated her sense of humor if not her thoughtfulness.🤣🤣🤣🤣
Luxair still hand out sweets before landing too, very novel.
Used to love watching flight reviews from a whole bunch of KZreadrs, but sadly they all mostly fly business now and most people fly cattle, so pointless.

Yes in many decades of flying, sometimes several times in a year, I only flew business class once and that was an unexpected upgrade for my whole family on British Airways. I may possibly experience one more semi-business class if we fly Air AsiaX Perth to KL next year. They have a lay flat option similar to business class but a fraction of the cost.
