Did I just buy the BEST MID-LENGTH SURFBOARD? | Shred Session Ep.5

Спорт

What's up guys! In this episode, I'm buying a new mid-length Album Moonstone from Bare Wires Surf Shop which is located in Spring Lake, NJ.
Album Moonstone is a stretched out fish to a mid-length. The result is immense paddle power, early speed and a fish feel that can handle good waves with surprising maneuverability. Unreal carves at full speed, twin-fin freedom, mid length paddle and fish flow.
Huge shout-out to Bare Wires Surf Shop for help to get the board and outstanding customer service! Thank you guys!
Bare Wires Surf Shop is located in downtown Spring Lake, New Jersey. It's a family owned store operated by two long time surfers & friends.

    Came here to say this! Sometimes some resin gets into the fin box and you have to scrape it out, but otherwise the wax works a treat. If you sand your fins down, they will end up loose in your other boards… 🙏🏽

    Hi! Thank you for watching! I only like one Matuse - Tumo model. I bought it back in 2014 and its still surprisingly holding. No leaks and the zipper is still working properly 🤙🏼 I just can’t believe how it lasts for that long. The quality is outstanding. Sizing: I usually wear Medium sizes, I’m 5’9” 155-165 lbs and this Matuse Tumo 4/3 is in size ML. I believe when I tried them on, the medium size didn’t fit well. It was tight. So, the ML feels great, the legs slightly have more space but it doesn’t bother me at all. Last year, I got 5/4 Hydrosilk Matuse the newest model.. Medium size. I couldn’t get into it. I returned it and didn’t wanna give it another chance. It has weird two spots with velcro around the neck. It didn’t look cool. The quality is completely different. It’s not a geoprene at all. It feels like a regular neoprene wetsuit, slightly smoother. I have 2 mm top Hydrosilk Matuse and its got some tears on the wrist cuffs after my first session. So, I’m not impressed with the Hydrosilk and I wouldn’t recommend getting one. But if you go for the Tumo model, it should be still great. If ended up getting one, send me the video/pictures on Instagram @skippersurfreview. If it looks the same, then you will get the best wetsuit for the next 5-7 years 😜 Hope this helps! Cheers!

    Yuri, how would you compare the Big Baron to the Moonstone. If you had to choose one which would it be?

  • @SkipperSurfReview

    @SkipperSurfReview

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey Pat0! The Big Baron is way more responsive and foiled down in overall shape. It feels less forgiving. The Moonstone glides better into the waves when I paddle.. it amazingly holds the line and I would have more confidence in bigger surf. It goes great over the chop and flats. Basically it has more vibe of a mid length opposed to a Big Baron which would be closer to a shortboard. If I had to choose, I would go with the Moonstone. The biggest reason is probably the glassing. The Moonstone comes with outstanding glass job compared to the Big Baron which feels very fragile in stock version. I will post more updates once I get a chance to surf the Moonstone in pumping waves! Cheers!

    Not necessary to pump so quick for speed around 4:09. The board will do the work. Some time on a longboard or glider will smooth out your style.

    How does it compare to the seaside and beyond?

  • @SkipperSurfReview

    @SkipperSurfReview

    2 жыл бұрын

    It's a different breed. If I roughly compare 6'8" Album Moonstone to 6'8" Seaside and Beyond, then it will go this way: It's got more glide and freedom. You can push it harder. Not corky as the Seaside and Beyond. The nose has slightly more rocker but there is a good chunk of foam hidden on top which helps to propel into the waves easy! I also felt that the Moonstone holds the rails very good and handles steeper drops better which should make it a great board for pumping waves. I just can't wait to try it! The Moonstone has less width in overall shape, makes it quickly transition from rail to rail. It's not as wide as the SSB which is more forgiving. The Moonstone won't work good for beginners.. this is the board for intermediate beginners and higher level surfers. Hope this helps!

  • @SkipperSurfReview

    @SkipperSurfReview

    Thanks for watching. It's not as corky as Beyond and I can push harder on turns.. It feels less of it's size when you up and riding. I don't have work hard to get speed vs Beyond which glides less and also feels too wide. This one is pretty narrow at 20" and works great to go rail to rail. That transition helps to get it moving easier. It's very unique design but it's not for everyone. I wouldn't recommend it to the beginners transitioning from a longboard to this mid length.

    Hi can you compare between twinizm and moonstone?

  • @SkipperSurfReview

    @SkipperSurfReview

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi David! Both boards are foam friendly in mid length range. Basically, the Moonstone is a stretched out fish and it's meant to be ridden between 6’4”-7’0”. So, if I had to go shorter, I would go with the Twinsman (stock dims) but for mid length size, I would pick the Moonstone. It's got more hold through the turns, but keeping the twin fin freedom. I think if you want like more nimble board with more performance and short size, then Twinsman (stock dims) would have more options for you. Hope this helps! Stock Moonstone 6'0" x 18.8" x 2.44 Vol: 31.5 liters Stock Twinsman "6'0" x 20.5" x 2.5" 37.3 liters Hope this helps!

    @@davidkim3294 Whats your level of surfing? It goes case by case. My buddy is 5'10-5'11 @185lbs, intermediate beginner and he surfs 6'0" Twinsman in PU (stock dims). He feels like his board needs more wave like solid 3ft + day to go. I had 6'0" Twinsman in Varial foam @37L and I was able to go in smaller stuff. It was more responsive and slightly more buoyant to go better in smaller waves. If I had a shorter Twinsman like 5'8", that would def reduce the length of my rides LOL. It does paddle fast though.
