    That's a nice looking turkey gun. I've decided to go with a cheap over/ under so that I can run #9TSS/ tight choke in 1 barrel and a modified choke and generic #6 lead in the 2nd barrel for anything under 25 yards. Having never actually killed a bird with the 3rd round in the mag in over 43 years of turkey hunting, I decided I'd rather be able to select different barrels based on circumstances and distance. Also, at $10 per shell, it would be nice to save the TSS for when it was really needed.

    I've known of Rob's work for many years and he's the best when it comes to turkey setups. I currently shoot a single barrel 20 gauge in a Thompson Encore with custom work by Rob's crew. I prefer number 9 shot because of the incredible patterns. Plus, the nines are strong at those misjudged yardages. I do shoot custom loads. There is something about a breech gun that I prefer, guess it's the quiet loading and unloading. Would love to shoot an over and under but can't figure out how to use a red dot sight, which is a must.

    I also appreciate quiet loading and unloading. This really hit home for me one turkey hunt when we had to loudly load our semi-autos a mile from the blind, then walk through thick undergrowth in the dark with loaded shotguns. Not the safest situation…

    The last couple of years before Remington went bankrupt I wasn't happy with their waterfowl loads. Seemed like the quality control was off, misfires and poor performance on their steel shot loads. Maybe they are doing it right again. Great pattern and nice little turkey gun for sure.

    I have a 20 gauge M2 that I use for upland hunting and I love it. However I’ve been leery of using an inertia action gun for turkey hunting, since it has to be slammed into battery to avoid the “Benelli click,” and can easily be bumped out of battery. Have you ever experienced this?

    Not if your left eye dominant, like many are. You can try to dismantle my point I made if you want, but it would be a waste of time. This system works perfectly. The barrel was cut to 18 1/2”.

  • @matthewthompson6357

    @matthewthompson6357

    @@TheNaturalCalling Why would eye dominance matter? Regardless of what eye is looking through the optic, if the other eye is open and you're target focused, the window size doesn't matter as much. Thanks for answering my question about the barrel length, I'm trying to decide between 20" and 22", was worried maybe 20" is too short, but apparently now if you're using 18.5".

  • @TheNaturalCalling

    @TheNaturalCalling

    4 ай бұрын

    @@matthewthompson6357 my left eye will not allow my right eye to focus on the dot or the target if my left eye is open. Everything about this setup was thought out and intentional. Even if I wasn’t left eye dominant, There is no benefit for me to mount the sight further away from me…. None. On your barrel length, be fare warned that many gun techs will say you lose too much velocity if you go shorter than 20. That’s partly the reason I didn’t broadcast my barrel length decision. I have not had one single issue reguarding lethality. My velocity dropped about 75 fps. I’m still over 1k. But just be advised. Happy hunting.

  • @haroldduu4471
    @haroldduu44717 ай бұрын

    You just couldn’t bring yourself to TELL EVERYONE what the barrel length is? Tell people to post a question to get the answer. I bailed after that. Detail that would’ve taken you 1/2 second to mention. Wanting to fool that algorithm by having people post to find out basic info is just frigging cheesy.
