Snoop could have competed had he not followed Dr dre’s work ethic. After doggystyle he should’ve dropped in summer 1995 and capitalized on the trial he was going through. Doggfather was 3 years later without dre and the tone was off on that album. Honestly without dre none of the homegrown death row artists would have made it that big imo. Bottom line Snoop should have been more consistent, pac kept dropping albums!

Mf’ers acting like Snoop ain’t build DR and put them on the map before Pac came..Snoop was literally the face of rap music when Doggystyle came out..old white grandmothers in the suburbs knew who Snoop was! If we’re being honest Pac taking off on Orlando destroyed DR to be real! Much love to Pac, but his actions caused DR to implode, Suge never would’ve went to jail, before that..Dre wouldnt have left the label..DR could’ve had Eminem, 50 Cent and Kendrick Lamar if yall didn’t alienate Dre! As great as Pac was, he’s partly responsible for DR’s demise

I've given up explaining this to people on here... Thank you for continuing the good fight. There would be NO DEATH ROW RECORDS without Snoop. Pac jumped onto a ready made super label and was hot because he'd just come out of jail. When 2Pac was free (pre 1994) he never had a record as big as Snoop Doggy Dogg and was more famous for acting and his antics than he was as a musician.

What made DR iconic is the fact that is was an all star team. Tupac shine was Tupacs shine, and Snoops shine was and still is Snoops shine. They have different styles, personalities, and unique charismas that made both of them stars. Pac is still talked about today 30 yeaes after death, and Snoop is literally everywhere, he has become a part of world culture at this point. Both are stars.

Snoops sophomore album was trash!! It didn’t help 1996 was a great year for hip hop albums. But that’s vapours track was BS!! Makavelli could have been released the following year and still would have done better. Snoop had a one solid album and that was in 93. Murder was the case was a DR compilation album so you can’t count that. And nothing Snoop did on no limit was really that great! Drop it like it’s hot was the only big single Snoop has done post Deathrow!

Snoop was still a rookie in the game compared to Pac at that time.

Also Reggie if I might add why do you think Snoop changed Tha Doggfather album it's obvious he did as he was sending review copys of the album to places like Entertainment Weekly and even L.A. Times when they interviewed him named completely different songs why do you think he changed the album not sure how true this is but someone said Big Flossy said that Snoop had it completed but changed it last minute why do you think that is I'll Name you some of the songs those magazines named L.A. Times "Among the tracks are Head Doctor, a funky ode to sex backed by a loop from Prince's "If I Was Your Girlfriend" ; "Too Black," a biting commentary about African American leaders being silenced for being too outspoken; "Doin' Too Much," a playful tune about the drawbacks of fame. "On most of the cuts on this album, I'm speaking against shooting. Most songs, like 'Up Jump the Boogie', speak against people who make other people shoot guns because they're too cowardly to settle their own scores." Entertainment Weekly "The album's first single is already a dance-club favorite: an even more funked-out remake of the Gap Band hit ""Oops Upside Your Head'' called, of course, ""Snoops Upside Your Head.'' The rest of ""Tha Doggfather'' is laced with true West Coast, gang sta-edge flava. There's ""Too Black,'' a tribute to black leaders who were killed fighting for civil rights. And, yes, there's glamorized violence and unglamorized women. Says Snoop, ""Should I not talk about something because it isn't nice or it isn't what you want to hear? I know that's what Bob Dole would want, but hopefully he won't get into office to stop my flow.''

Entertainment Weekly even had some positive reviews about the Original Album saying """Doggfather'' falls short of Snoop's debut, ""Doggystyle,'' but it's still a truly funky outing. It features the rapper's unbeatable Southern drawl and his rapid-fire lyrics. Without his mentor beside him, Snoop has enlisted the producing talents of Daz (from Tha Dogg Pound) and DJ Pooh (from Ice Cube's production team). The album's first single is already a dance-club favorite: an even more funked-out remake of the Gap Band hit ""Oops Upside Your Head'' called, of course, ""Snoops Upside Your Head.''
