I was there! Right in the front, too. It got so dark like it was midnight and it rained really, REALLY hard. She started telling us to leave the park because it was dangerous. It turned into a horrible thunder & lightning storm. No one wanted to leave as long as she was on stage, though! She was soaked, we were all soaked. I will never ever forget it! I returned the next day to sunshine and her return for an awesome show. She started out saying ain't no storm gonna keep her away from us. LUV HER

@@angechrisman1694the two are definitively from two different eras. Before Beyoncé there was Diana and that cannot be disputed. In your opinion, Beyoncé is a better performer and vocalist. The fact can’t be denied that although YOU may think she’s better than Diana in those areas, Diana has a cement in music history long before Beyoncé was even conceived. Both of them are to be respected but not compared.

I remember seeing this concert on TV shortly after it happened. I always thought, what a performance, what a performer and how much she loved her fans. Seeing it after all these years, it brings tears to my eyes, Diana is a true human being. The song “Reach Out and Touch Somebody’s Hand” should be an anthem for 2024, with so much hate and division in this country, we need to make it a better place. ❤❤❤❤❤

I was at this concert in Central Park. I was 11. We got soaked but my mother didn’t even consider leaving! At the time I wasn’t sure why we didn’t run for the hills. But now I understand that we were witnessing one of the greatest live performances ever. Many years later, I was also at the Super Bowl in Miami and witnessed Prince in the torrential rain play one of the greatest halftime shows in history. It’s incredible that I was lucky enough to be at 2 of the most iconic live performances ever seen in the rain!

This was such an epic event that it drove NYC to a standstill. My father was a cab driver in NYC. The place was jam-packed with people trying to get to this event. There was no way to do a second show. I watched on TV which was constantly failing because of the rain. The concert had to stop several times, but the show went on till late in the night. People never left till the end. We didn't have any way of recording it or waiting to watch it later. It would have been an epic failure if not for her epic talent which turned it into an epic success. We love Diana Ross. She is the queen of American music.

Am I the only one who cries every time they watch this video...even if for the hundredth time? Clearly something very special happened on this night, in this venue, in 1983. Only a true 'diva' would create sunshine out of a torrential downpour, whereas so many other 'divas' of today would be worrying about their 'wind machines' for their hair...their fancy dance choreography, etc.

I remember this moment! Twas windy and rainy yet we stayed, the rain was phenomenal during the concert. Extravagant woman, Diana Ross. I brought my family were there, our toddler, my husband and I, enjoyed every moment even as it rained, our son was comfortably snug and suited in his plush stroller which had protective covering from possible rain we'd not expected, blanket, back up bottles and his mommy and daddy. Diana Ross Concert was phenomenal and amazing!!!!

I don 't understand why the views are not, at least, in seven figures. Diana Ross is a Legend in the truest sense of the word!!! Could it be it's due to the lowering of standards of what the current generation sees as "Excellence" that we older generations expected from our entertainers???!!!!

I am 31 therefore I was only 3 years old when this video aired. I grew up in a household with much older siblings and a mother who loved the Supremes. So Diana Ross is in my blood. This concert just brings tears to my eyes. Just to see an artist talk to directly to her audience and just the fabulousness that music once was. I just watch this video and think how awesome it is to watch a true queen, diva and artist. It sad to think we will never get something like this again.

First ever trip to NYC and a free concert with the incredible Diana Ross! 🥰 It was wild! The electric storm was too much and we left drenched and couldn't go the next day as we were leaving for Florida.

Thus was truly a special time in my life, the summer of 1983. While this Diana Ross concert was cut short by severe thunderstorms, at least they were able to get it in the next day on a nice sunny refreshing day. The previous day's storms, which cut short the concert, also brought an end to a heat wave, which had been gripping the region for over a week. The #1 song that day was I'll be Watching You by The Police, which would be the #1 song of 1983. Other notable songs that would bring back memories from then are Come Dancing by The Kinks, st #6, Stand Back by Stevie Nicks at #9, Too Shy by Kajagoogoo, at #13, Maniac by Michael Sembello, at #14, It's Our Mistake by Men at Work at #20, and Diana Ross herself had a hit that week at #35 with Pieces of Ice. These are just a few songs that would bring back memories from those special days, and many of them can still.be heard on the radio, especially on radio stations that play 70's and 80's music.

It really shows what a professional she is! In a way, the storm made this a pivital point in her musical journey .- it continued her launch into the eighties and endeared her to millions more, simply by her sheer gumption!! I've seen her in concert- trooper doesn't even cover it.

There are maybe a handful of entertainers who sing and entertain as well as Diana Ross. Small group like Barbra, Tina, Aretha, Michael. No one in todays music industry can compare to this small group. There will never be anyone like them again.
