Diana Krall has had a long-time fascination with bossa nova, a type of music which perfectly suits her sophisticated yet sensual style. This culminated in her new studio album Quiet Nights (released by Verve in spring 2009) and in this stunning concert filmed in the home of the bossa nova, Rio de Janeiro, in November 2008. Accompanied by her band and an orchestra, Diana Krall delivers a superb set of standards in true bossa nova style but clearly bearing her unique stamp. This DVD captures Diana Krall at her scintillating best.

The significance of these amazing musicians could only be understood by listening to this live which I was doing. Bossa Nova is all about feel and tempo. Obviously Ms Krall is amazing but listen to the subtlety of the drummer and the vibe he puts off. The entire thing just worked. There isn't music and musicianship out there like this anymore.

As a guy, the first thing that attracted me to Diana was, of course, her looks. If I have done the math right, at the time of this filming she was 44, but looks not yet 30. Combine that with the smoking vocals and extraordinary ability to play & interpret a song, and well, what's not to love!! I'm sure, like all great musicians, it took years of practice to get there, but I am always extremely envious of someone who plays an instrument as if it was part of them, seemingly flowing from an unconscious stream of emotion & feeling.

Yes, have seen her many times live in Vancouver, heard about her when she was playing at the pub in her hometown of Nanaimo before she was old enough to get in for a drink. At 5 ft 9, she has the lung capacity for long notes, and optimal hand size to put a full range of pressure on the Piano keys.

Some history: "Walk On By" was composed by Burt Bacharach (with lyrics by Hal David) for singer Dionne Warwick in 1963. It peaked at number 6 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The original was recorded at the same December 1963 session that yielded another Warwick hit "Anyone Who Had a Heart."

Bacharach said he had Warwick’s voice in his head when he wrote many of his songs. Sheryl Crow did a nice, soulful version of this at the White House, you can find it on KZread.

Always have to reflect on the music itself. We people create and build instruments then play and i along with them the notes we write . The arrangements the orchestration the mastery of the instruments and the end result is the emotion that we have been blessed with which music triggers.

If you see me walking down the street And I start to cry each time we meet Walk on by, walk on by Make believe That you don't see the tears Just let me grieve In private 'cause each time I see you I break down and cry And walk on by (don't stop) And walk on by (don't stop) And walk on by I just can't get over losing you And so if I seem, broken and blue Walk on by Walk on by Foolish pride That's all that I have left So let me hide The tears and the sadness you gave me When you said goodbye Walk on by (don't stop) Walk on by (don't stop) Walk on by (don't stop) Walk on Walk on by Walk on by Foolish pride That's all that I have left So let me hide The tears and the sadness you gave me When you said goodbye Walk on by (don't stop) Walk on by (don't stop) Now you really gotta go, so walk on by (don't, don't stop) Baby, leave, you'll never see the tears I cry (don't, don't stop) Now you really gotta go, so walk on by (don't, don't stop) Mmm, baby, leave, you'll never see the tears I cry (don't, don't stop) Now you really gotta go, so walk on by (don't, don't)
