Diana Durston Xmid 1p ~ Maiden Voyage

Ey up Campers! Long time no see! It’s been hard staying away from my tents but completely necessary to get better from pain of the tooth extraction. What a drama. I quite literally could not wait for camp and as soon as I had a few days off shift I was out.
Meet Diana, whilst Hillary sulks in the corner of my bedroom, what a great tent it is. Really enjoyed my solitude, it was good for my soul and I can’t wait to test myself pitching her in all kinds of spots around the Peak District soon.
Hope you enjoy this simple wild camp video.
Magic ✨
ATB, Sarah

That first shot of the tent, with the light on and Speedster on the go outside, just as it was getting dark.. absolutely idyllic! And i do love the mist rolling over the moor on them early mornings. That is such a beautiful spot to camp too. Wonderful. ⛺💚

Ey up Pat 👑 aye I saw your ‘short’ out at Bullstones, how was the spring flowing? I really want to get up there again soon, it’s been in my head ever since I camped at Crow stones before I started filming trips out. I felt like I was on the edge of the world! 🌍 the views are awesome. I’ve enjoyed your previous videos out that way and I think it was the ….”and getting older” video. Loved that one, made me understand that I need to seize every day and enjoy it as much as I can. I hope the heel/ankle/foot is feeling much better, unless you dropped in via parachute 🪂 at Howden moor I guess it’s feeling GOOD! ATB, See you out again soon, Sarah

Crikey Sarah! You've become monetised; have a logo,a new tent and have reached 3k subscribers. You certainly don't let the grass grow. What next ? Merchandise? Tee shirts with RATTLECAN on the front and SHURRUP! on the back? One of my favourite books is DELIGHT by J.B.Priestley. It is a collection of short essays on things in which he delights.A very diverse selection and I've thought about compiling my own list.SarahB's tent chats would definitely make the cut. They are delightful! As for the dancing on the rock, top notch! I think you've started something there.Andrew's Beaver said on his video that he'd had a little dance, but we've no proof. Au revoir the noo, Mike.

Hi Sarah Nice to see you back and nice to see the new member of the family making her debut. There's nothing wrong with the "simple act of camping" as you call it, it's exactly the type of camping I do, I'm happy with it and I'll carry on doing it as long as I can, but I do agree with you about the extra stuff in the mix like the editing and the artistic thought that goes into a video apart from it's main conTENT (see what I did there), I'm a big fan of Liam (good bloke outdoors) because he creates all his own audio and music plus he does some clever & silly stuff with his editing adding that extra bit of glitter, check out his "Lake District Mountain Wild Camping in Snow & Cloud" video at 16:20 with his packing away choreography, I'm not saying it's the greatest video in the world but he's gone to the trouble of extra editing and created a sound track to go with it just for our entertainment, which wasn't needed in my opinion because I like his videos anyway, but that's his style and what he does, plus when he goes on his overnight hikes he get's some stunning views, i.e. his "SOLO BEN NEVIS SUMMIT CAMP IN WINTER" which has got to be some of his best photo's/footage in my opinion, I'm like you, I just like to get outdoors, just me and nature, alone with my thoughts contemplating life and camping in solitude. Anyroad I'm getting like you rattlin on, I'm glad your happy with Diana, she does look a nice bit of kit and I hope you have many happy camp's with her, you may have even sold me on the idea of getting one, only time will tell. All the best lass, Micky B.

I love Liams videos. He cracks me up! So entertaining and I can tell how much he gets out of the trips and making the vids. He’s inspiring! Hi Sarah, Lovely to see you back on our screens, and the trees 🌳 in leaf. Glad to see the smiles are back and the tooth issues well behind you. Your birches are a week or so behind mine here in Berkshire. Diana went up without too much of a fuss, you sound like a proud mum. Interesting tooth story, I had a mowler out, Boy did my tongue insist on playing in the gap for ages. I reckon earache is as bad. 28 years since we moved house, think I've got ptsd from that! 😀 I see your kiddiwhizz found its way into stage central, are you sure you're not on a retainer for keeping it in shot😆. Sarah is definitely back up to speed on the nattering front. Wrt your little chat, I think you are kind of agreeing with PM's point that he started off with the tent ⛺️ being the centre of gravity then other factors took over, its a journey. As for rucksack dancing 🕺, wonder if it will go viral 🤔. Until next time Cheers Graham

Sarah good to see you getting another tent and getting out again for a night. Nothing worse than using Soulo's when your moving into summer conditions and you know the weather is going to be good. Great way to extend the life of an expensive tent, not to mention more suitable for the conditions. The only thing i don't get with the Durston is i wish they would have included some more guy out points when they stiched the panels together, just to bring peace of mind for say 5 day trips when you start getting into the murkier predictions.

Yes 👍🏻 that’s absolutely right. I plan on taking the soulo out for a few airings but ultimately it will stay neatly packed away under lock and key ha ha! My aim was for lighter as the weather brightens, I’m optimistic 🙂 extending the life of the Soulo is very important, my go to winter tent she is! After having the Soulo it was definitely sparse on the guy line points but seemed solid as a rock. Looking forward to testing it in British weather and terrain. ATB, Sarah

Hi Sarah. Another great video. Silver birch is my favourite tree too. They remind me of my mum. She planted two silver birch when she was a child and i always remember going to my nan and grandads and climbing those trees as a child myself. When we moved into our forever home the very first thing we did was plant a silver birch a large Acer and several fruit trees .18 years later they all look amazing and i love parking up after a shift and seeing our home surrounded by trees. Ive always loved trees and felt at home in forested areas. Its where im most relaxed closely followed by mountainous areas. Anyway. Sorry youve had a tough time of ut lately. Glad youre on the mend. I went from being super chilled from the intro music to bopping in the kitchen for the dance tune 🕺😁 What a location, those silver birch really added to the magic of the pitch location and those evening shots with varying light, just beautiful. Really hope that tooth is kind to you here on in. Totally relate-the worst potential pain ever! I’ve had 2 months of it on & off now due to fear of that dental visit. Glad you’re on the other side of your brush with the man in the ‘ivory trade’! Re Diana: It’s a good thing you didn’t buy a Vern, lass, or there’d be demands for you to show us “Victoria’s secrets”, and we already know her to be a bit of a heart breaking ‘pole-dancer’, lolno! Lovely spot there, and smashing views. Second days stew an’ all, can’t be beat 😋. Reminds me of the two walkers up at Braemar who got lost on the hill and had to stop out overnight because of the fog. Next day they were cold and famished, but saw a wisp of smoke from a distant cottage chimney. Just as they walked up the garden path to approach, the elderly lady opened her door just enough to see the strangers and asked what they wanted; the walkers explained they had been out all night on the hill, without food or shelter, and were very cold and hungry, and asked whether she could spare them anything. The old lady replied, “I’ve not really got much in by way of food, but if you follow the track down now that you’ve found it, you’ll get to the village, just three miles further along” They were a bit crestfallen, but thanked her and turned around to make their way out of her garden and off to the village. Just as they were closing her gate, she called out to them “Oh! Wait a minute - do you like second day’s broth?” The famished walkers both said “Oh yes indeed, we love it!”, their spirits having been instantly lifted; the old lady replied: “Well come back tomorrow, I”m making it today…” 🤣👍🏻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Well that was our evening sorted! Had just painted my toe nails, made everyone a hot drink, sat down and looked at my phone and said Sarah's put a new video up - yippee! off goes the Xbox the boys of the house were playing Fortnite and we all sit down to watch you take out Diana for the first time. She's a lovely looking tent ⛺️ and looked wonderful under those trees. It's lovely to hear your chit chat and to have you back and well enough again 🎉. A few things to report - Bailey couldn't figure out why we couldn't hear the wind 😂 We explained that it's that excellent mic you have! You have got that sorted and the quality of your sound is the best of everyone we watch. Secondly my husband thought your whizzer had centre stage a one point 🤣 they are brilliant I have one also, had to use mine in the back of the car the other day 😮. Finally we loved the music at the end Diana has brought out a different side of you 😂 when you were dancing on the rocks I said "I think she's lost the plot abit" and our daughter said "why? That's exactly what you would do!" The truth is I actually would 🤣🤣🤣. It's so lovely to have you back, thank you for what you do as always and please get out again soon! Take care see you soon Sadie 😊 xxx

Thoroughly enjoy your videos, mainly because of your completely unpretentious, down to earth stream of consciousness gentle commentary. This one is just class. My mild criticism is please don't say you have PTSD from toothache. I'm a veteran with clinically diagnosed PTSD and I'll tell you I'll take toothache or kidney stones over PTSD because I know those two will end. PTSD is a difficult friend for life. I know from your time in OTC you get this. On the plus side I like to think that when you bring a new life into the world it is sprinkled a little with your fairy dust and grows to love the outdoors like you do.

Lovely ☺️ it’s a tough one. Maybe trauma would have been a better choice of word on a serious not to describe how I dealt with the aftermath of having my molar removed. I have experienced PTSD in my life and have received support for this from professionals and my GP. Being lighthearted about it helps me deal with the bad stuff, Im sorry if that offended you having to live with a chronic condition 🙏🏻 I do understand. I’m Also guilty of not over editing my videos but I do on the whole think deeply and carefully about what I say when I press record. It’s a challenge. Thank you for sharing your experience ✨✨ 😊

Hey Sarah, with regards to your teeth. I would highly recommend SODC in Budapest. i've had quite a lot of extensive dental work because i waited to long because of anxiety issues. 2 implants cost me less than what you said 1 would cost. they do free consultations, free transfers from the airport, hotels and appointments etc. They turned my life around if i'm honest, and besides, its a beautiful city to visit and flights are not to bad either. Tooth ache can be quite debilitating, as you know. Anyhow love the videos. You and a few others actually inspired me to start my own channel, so thank you. 💯

Thank you for your insight here 😊 I knew talking about what’s been troubling me would resonate with many. It’s certainly make me more fearful of the dentist so I’m going to have to work through that for future visits. I did have flash backs for about 6 days and I understand that is a normal human response to trauma as I have been affected in my professional working life from personal birth and as a midwife. It’s awful….and then there was calm in the simple act of camping! ⛺️ Like waving a magic wand in nature 🌳

😂😂😂 love it 🙌🏻 thanks and I’m sorry to hear you had an abscess 🙂‍↕️thankfully that didn’t develop for me. I’m over it now because I have no pain 🙏🏻 I’ll probably never have it filled with an implant because I will always have something better to spend my money on. See how I go. The ISA sounds much more appealing! 👋🏻ATB, Sarah

They think it has in the past had an evolutionary advantage when we were all hunter gatherers. We were the ones who took risks, spotted that predator before it spotted us, that fruit that was tucked deep in the undergrowth. We were the ones who wondered what was over the next hill. I watch a huge number of camping, back-backing, and hiking videos. The trend I see in YT content is that contributors start close to the world that their viewers relate to. Its at the cheaper end of gear. Then through freebies and channel investment the YTuber is in a Hilleberg while I'm still in my Naturehike rip off and actually everything is good. So the folk I initially followed because they mirrored my real life; my financial position and my experience move on. I can't . They don't need me anymore. They are talking to a different audience, except that audience is more discerning and more clued in that the YT upstart and suddenly they can't understand (or take) criticism. Hello Andy. Love Sarah's videos. She says what works for her and no hard upsell of products. Other YT contributors in this crowded YT world take note.

Kit is definitely a personal Choice. My aim is to be able to carry it to campsites comfortably and that has meant upgrading kit for lighter stuff, not always more costly but it does sometimes go that way.
