It's because she's singing about a woman in Paris missing her lover and thinks she sees him in the crowd then realises she's mistaken and sinks back down into despondency. To overcome it she takes to the Parisian nightlife to dance, dance, dance but it's a bitter-sweet experience for her.

As for me, I am perfectly content with my multi-faceted jewel: Diana.

The first performance was the very first time the juries heard Diana. She walked on stage smiling to everyone in this kid talent show, then she started singing and everyone dropped their jaws. Yulianna Yurievna Karaulova the blonde judge pressed the button this early because when she saw Diana who came in with a beaming smile immediately tranformed when the music and her performance started, this is very rare in this age, proves stage present and maturity. I think her deep singing tone and mesmerizing style led to these stage choices, including this one, but also the songs themselves. THe original Derniere Danse clip also had similar storm effect... Pardon my French but the more correct translation is Snowstorm ! Вьюга= V'yuga=Snowwhirlwind (literally). So the translation Snowstorm is more close to the Russian original title of the song. - Says so Dr of Philology.

I left probably 50 notes in the comments that Dimash's best Russian song's name should be translated as The Love That Seems to Be a Dream (my very accurate poetic translation) - but my translation is simply ignored. So I prefer to talk to ordinary commentators - at least some of them are reasonable people. I have a strong love for Indila’s original version. I had heard the first version before, but always interesting to hear one artist interpret on more than one occasion the same song. My reaction to Diana is always mixed - she is so darned talented, but her voice is so dark. I know this is more upbeat, but the song has such dark elements. “A last dance to forget my immense pain”. The tempo is different from the lyrics - contrasting one another and Diana’s voice starkens the feeling even more. I have a very specific frame of mind I need to appreciate Diana’s vocals as much as they should be. Love your enthusiasm.

@@markanne54 thank you for the links... it isn’t just the feeling of the songs for me though. (These are definitely more upbeat than I’ve previously heard - I’m sorry, but I skipped Havana because the original was overplayed to my taste - but it isn’t the songs, it is Diana’s timbre. I don’t hate her voice - nor her at all! - it is a fascinating (but dark to me) voice with richness in tone and timbre... just not my “go to”. She is incredibly talented and I certainly don’t mind listening to her occasionally (I really loved Rechenka), but not all the time. Thank you again! :)

I have to say though that it isn’t that I believe Diana only sings dark stuff, it is just the quality of her voice, the timbre, the richness, that brings images of darkness to me. Cher’s natural (read: not the auto-tuned stuff) voice gives me a similar vibe. (I’m not really comparing them. There is just something in both of their tones that brings the same imagery.). Dear, Diana sang not for the French audience, but for the Russian. For Russians, her French is quite convincing! Such a beautiful grating "r", such savory nasal vowels! And this amazing "Vol'-vol'-vol'"! In my opinion, the English-speaking audience also likes it. And the French ... well, how many of those French are there? Although thanks to them for their beautiful language! :))

The only thing I know about french that you eat snails. However some french speaking reactors (who studied there for years) and even a french reactor said her french pronunciation was quite good. Don't worry the rest of the songs are russian, english, etc. So go ahead, shut your nose and eat some snails. And if you wait enough the world will forget your language completly, it is happening super super fast. Kick those who didn't, yet. Go you. P.S. Feel free to find her other performances with this song, years later. Maybe where she is not 14 she will have more precise pronunciation. As your russian will improve too with time. P.S.2. Anyway I am just a nails eater ( I let you Vodka... #stupidity ?) So who cares... BTW I really don't judge the way she sing, the tone of her voice (I like it). As an English-speaker I love Diana's attempts at English lyrics (which are highly convincing, I might add). So much so that I was quite astonished when I learned she can't actually speak English, or French or Spanish, so has to learn everything phonetically. Now I don't speak French but I know enough of it to for her versions to sound pretty convincing to me. The same for her songs in Spanish. I've read plenty enough reviews from native speakers of those languages to say it may not be perfectly fluent but it's more than understandable. And if it's anything like as good as her attempts at English then I'm quite surprised you're having trouble with it as her phonetic English is totally convincing.

@@markanne54 ok ok cool. I don't know her, I don't criticized her. I just gave my point of view about the fact a lot of artists cover French songs instead of reinterpret in their own language. You just talk about her and about "French speakers reaction" ... That was really not the subject I wanted to talk about. But I have understand: I am wrong, you are right, ok cool. As usual it was very useful to post a comment...
