Diahann Carroll Interview with Dick Cavett (1986) Part 2 of 3

We here at Television Vanguard have an 'unofficial' Television Hall of Fame that we place significant contributors to the television industry; these individual we believe have had an important and high impact on the television medium. They came along at just the right time in the history of the medium, and made an important an indelible impact. The list of inductees is somewhat small, but that is by design; it makes the impact of those in that group all the more important.
Today, we adding another individual to that Television Vanguard Hall of Fame list, and she is one of our favorites as well, Ms. Diahann Carroll.
Ms. Carroll, who passed away last year, truly was a significant contributor to the development of the television medium that evolved over the decades to what we see today on our viewing screens. She was (and always will be) remembered as a thought provoking, intelligent and beautiful performer across the various performing arts and mediums. From Julia in the 1960s and early 1970s, to Dynasty in the 1980s, she trail blazed the role of black women on television with style, wit, intelligence, beauty and charm - a powerful combination. She truly was, and is, a key part of the television vanguard. We welcome her into the Television Vanguard Hall of Fame.

If I was a woman I would study Diahann Carroll and steal every bit of her charm. Girls, add some Diahann Carroll to your game. This is what a woman looks like.

She just knew she was the shit. Amazing how that comes through the screen. There's only one other Black woman that says that same thing when I watch her on the screen and that is the one and only....Diana Ross. R.I. P. Ms. Carroll

@@dddddadadad1796 Hey...Q Quartermaine, as always...we are on the same page. LOL...love her too. Yeah, she wasn't too kind to Diana. I'm thinking of the comment in which Carroll said she saw Diana driving her yellow rolls and she thought ...there goes the neighborhood. Or, was it something else? I thought that was a diss to Diana. I really think it's envy Diana because of her success. Especially, after reading Carroll's autobiography and seeing she had many career obstacles. I know Diana had her ways on her rise to fame but, that was a 20-30 something year old Diana. People change. I think Carroll knew. Like her, Ross was in that special class of women that exuded beauty and wealth. However, Diana has more wealth and fame then Carroll and a better machine that guided her career. Let's face it...Diana could of been in Dynasty playing the same role Carroll played. That's how much Diana exuded the same traits and style like Carroll. I'm just amazed that Carroll felt it was necessary to diss Diana. It was not necessary in the context of what she was saying. Was it that comment you were thinking of too?

@@danielrobinson9270 that one, and there was one other which I am too sleepy at the moment, to recall. I remember feeling like a punch in a gut when I read those words at the time. I just couldn’t understand why she would be so unkind, especially to someone who’d only said kind words about her. Though I adore Diahann Carroll, I never looked at her the same way after that.

@@dddddadadad1796 Got you! You ain't never lie. Though I love the talent and music of some of the women who have not been kind in their words about Diana, I have a issue with them as individuals for being so mean spirited. Diana Ross on the other hand, has always kept it classy. Never does she speak badly of others. Especially, those who have spoken not so nicely about her. And, I know she has some thoughts about them but yet, she doesn't dignify the haters by speaking on them. As she would say, she stays with her higher self. That's why I go so hard for her. I definitely feel you 100% Q. Quartemaine👍 Until next time. Take care.

Only woman that comes to my mind, and not because she is Black, is Halle Berry. The sweetness, the confidence, the charm, the intelligence, the femininity and the God-given beauty of these two women are unlike any woman I have ever experienced in my 52 years on earth. Diahann and Halle both make people feel bliss when they are speaking to them. I get chills just watching these videos.
