She didn’t fix anything. She did the jumper truck on a old OBD1 system which isn’t used on anything 1996 and newer. I was doing that truck on a number of different cars. It’s a primitive system and can be quite misleading. It’s not really a trick. It’s something mechanics knew how to do back then working on cars if they didn’t have a scanner. Back then with OBD1, there was many different connection ports are cars unlike the 1 standard port all OBD2 cars have on them these days. I probably have 20 different OBD1 adapters for my scan tool which does OBD1 and OBD2. Though these days I no longer work on cars. Changed Careers many years ago.

I am impressed with how she was able to access the system without a scan tool. I knew that older Chrysler products are able to be accessed without a computer but wasn’t aware of other cars that can be. I am however a little bit disappointed with her because as soon as she read the code 71, she instantly said it will repeat and went to look up the code. This could cause some other people a lot of frustration because a lot of times, there can be multiple codes which viewers of this video could miss because she said it will just repeat the single fault code instead of allowing the computer to finish the testing and potentially revealing more codes, followed by a code saying the diagnostic test is complete. Testing cars for others, I have often seen multiple fault codes given with the most on one car being 17. So if anyone uses her way to access the diagnostic system on their car, PLEASE, LET THE TEST FINISH SHOWING ALL RESULTING CODES.

I diagnosed it by the end of the video. The problem is ARCO gasoline, fuel deposits preventing EGR valve from sealing.

Some air conditioners use the same way to send a code. On a newer LG unit I noticed the gaps in the blinking, looked up the code in a manual on the Internet, and the code was actually because the condenser temperature was low, because it had a gas leak.

I had the same code. Vacuum transducer had a hole in the diaphragm. $90 and 2 minutes of work and it was fixed!

If your vacuum lines are good check for the egr vsv located under the intake manifold. They can rust out. Also check the vacuum ports on the throttle body.as they can get clogged up. Check the vacuum pipe that goes through the manifold, the line that comes off the egr valve goes to the top of the manifold, then under the manifold it goes to the vsv. That pipe can become blocked, I had to bypass mine with a hose going around the manifold. I replaced the egr valve, and vacuum modulator first which did not clear my code.

In my country there wasn't a rule that forced cars to implement OBD2 so things like this are pretty common. Used to make me so envious of cars in the states.

Wish you could still do that on newer stuff. I mean obdii is great in that it is universal and even a cheap reader will tell you a code, but flash codes are still awsome.

Better than some car chanel that just talk about luxury cars, shows you how to fix your own car(depending on the age of vehicle).

VSV is usually the culprit. Mine also had carbon build in the the throttle body… so I just changed every hose and component to not have to worry about it anymore.

This is an actual design feature from Toyota. Very ingenious. The next thing she could do to find the evap leak is run the engine from cold and take brake cleaner and spray around all of the hoses to find the leak. When the engine revs up in a particular area, you can narrow down to the specific hose and replace it.

Most people would see a check engine light and shrug it off hoping it will go away. I’m glad that some people pay attention to it either bringing it to shop or doing it themselves

Evap consist usually of 3 parts, a canister, a selenoid valve usually on top of the tank, and the hoses/gas cap. Newer cars will tell you if it's a large or small leak. Mechanics usually always point to the cheapest item first. Being the gas cap. Secondly the cannisters and finally the valve. It's always best to perform a smog test and see if it is leaking visually

When that comes on in my 99 crown vic, first thing I do is open the gas cap (while car is off) and the light usually fixes itself. If not, then I look for other reasons. Great job

EGR valves go out all the time. When i worked in the parts department of a new car dealership that was one of the most popular items.

Ised to do that on the diag between TE1 and E1 and get flashcodes. The EGRs were common with the vacuum dipragms. Would make the car run rough.
