All I can say is that I think the warrior from the original Diablo is my favorite Hero from the trilogy. He is not a might hero of legend like in Diablo II or a Nephilim like in Diablo III. He is just an extremely brave (obviously very kind hearted) soul returning from war who only wants to protect his friends no matter what awaits him in the crypts below. His awesome quotes send shivers down my spine. I only wish Blizzard would release a lore book about his own adventure with the rogue and mage

Yes, he is, but that wasn’t in the lore since Diablo 1. I guess they explained it in D3.

I also find the scene where he saves Lachdanan's soul in-game pretty awesome. The guy is delving down into the depths of hell to kill a giant and horrific demon that Cain has even told him he may not be able to defeat, and yet he still stops to free the soul of a stranger by going out of his way to retrieve the elixer.

good old times... Remember when me and my girlfriend wasted about half a dozen sunday evenins wracking hell on Leoric's tomb. We are together for about twenty five years now. Last fryday night we stormed tal rasha tomb. Love blizzard for these amazing moments. And I love you Angelita!

He sounded more hardcore in Diablo 1 than all his later iterations.

Does anyone else agree that Leoric was cooler when he had a massive sword (Diablo 1) than when he had a two-handed mace (Diablo 3)?

Leoric was a powerhouse, not quite as strong as the butcher but back then getting holy bolt seemed the only feasible way to kill him. Fighting him in melee like the vid was very risky.

I played this game again recently and it has so much more atmosphere than diablo2. In a lot of ways it is much better.

This game is still awesome, no matter how old it is.. Just the feeling you get from the music and the scenery is unmatched. And haha, the first time I long ago killed Leoric, I broke the crucifix things and got the curse on me, and thought the game had a bug or something. Since I had saved after beating him without knowing about this curse, I had to restart the game. >_ Sword and Shield I find the best weapon, BTW.

I appreciate the way you are discussing this. The dungeons are definitely randomized like Diablo 2 (preset small/large pieces mixed in various ways within a larger board), and at the very least its hard to argue that removing annoying items is bad. Skills and stats change may be my own preference, but stat management was largely minimum armor/weapon requirements and vitality. Late game item spawning needs tweaking (though Hell mode is quite beatable with dropped items).

Nobody really recalls about the lore, but the warrior is basically Leoric's eldest son Aidan.

No, his identity was revealed in D2 and novel adaptions, its just people don't care enough about the diablo lore

Maybe I am being mistaken, but by the time I played D2, even the official lore hadn't been revealed, just by simply playing through the game The Dark Wanderer's true identity became too obvious. Well at least for me. There were certain areas, documents and gossips slowly unveiling his mystery. But again, maybe it's just me I figured who he was before D3 came out.

The plot wise for Diablo universe isn't really that complicated if you dig deeper into it, even though the retcon review from D3 was a shocker to the majority. Just because I subconsciously believe in something which turns out to be right doesn't make myself a lier. As i have said, there were pieces of factors that connect together to prove that The Dark Wanderer was somehow connected to The Mad King Leoric. His true identity wasn't revealed until D3 retcon which I agreed with you, but I simply just don't believe that The Dark Wanderer related to Leoric was merely a coincident.

The last time I played D1 and D2 were few years ago, but I recalled that Aidan was in search for his lost brother (why has to be Tristram and inside the Cathedral) or something after a defeat battle in Westmarch. I think he had a brief conversation with Cain about the mission too but I can't remember whether this info was from 1 or 2. Anyways just things like that connect together.

Well I didn't necessarily call anyone out for anything, so I have no idea why you perceive it negatively at the first place... Also I added Aidan in my comment because it's easier to reference rather than calling him different but longer alias. I also didn't say his brother was related to the king either. I just said he was looking for him, which happened to be in Tristram, inside the Cathedral. Could this possibly be a coincident? Beats me. But as far as I'm concerned, it is one part of the clue for Aidan's identity. Pretty sure it was hinted in D2.

@retx101 Yep, i agree. If u havent heard the music in D3, it also is very much akin to Diablo 1, instead of Diablo 2. I heard the music to whatever the first town is in D3 on someones livestream today and was totally reminded of Diablo 1 tristram.

Tip - Let Leoric spawn minions to kill until you get bored. This will give you extra experience / levels and sometimes good loot / money.

It's random every time you play a new game you will either fight 'The butcher' or 'King Leoric'. Diablo 1 has more of this random events that that switch every time you start a new game.

On which level is King Leoric's Tomb please ? (sorry for fouls, but I'm french) ;)

Because back then he wasn't Aiden, he was just a random warrior and eventually they changed his lore to suit some Diablo 3 background. Even Adria the witch in D1 had an old creaky voice whereas she sounds young and beautiful in D3 and had a daughter with Aiden.

And maybe 21 years later you mean ;D depends on the gap of time between Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 ;D

Diablo 1 skeletons are weaker against blunt weapons. Demons more with swords.

You all are wrong. The warrior is not son of Leoric, the warrior character is just a warrior from the order of Khanduras. The only son of Leoric, Albrecht, is under the control of Diablo. Also, when you kill Leoric, the character says: "Rest well Leoric, I'll find your son" referring that he will find to Albrecht.

@IRawryourcookies I think the trend began with Diablo 2, actually, which was rather simplified (and mood-lightened) in comparation with Diablo 1. It was still good, though, and it had no annoying DRM (which is far more than one can say of Diablo 3). Still, I'd like a back to the roguelike roots diablo-esque game :(

sempre joguei com roger e sorcerer. tinha uma roger lvl 40 (+/-) super apelona com itens fodas... tinah max em todos resistencias, full em magic, dextery e stregth. fazias umas magias loucas como shield mana e guardian e townportal. tinah amuleto que dava 14 em todos atributos, anel com 10 atributos e 10 resistencia total e outro anel com uns 18 resistencia total... enfim, ela tava apelona... ai um certo dia salvei o sorcerer em cima dela.... oO

Basically diablo 3 is like remake of diablo 1 and 2 but with a twist of old tristram not to be found because of the demons ressurects? Im still trying to understand the series lmao although i am playing and 1 and beat 3 3x lmao. Just wanted to know why is 3 the way they made it?
