After playing a few hours I kind of see it as both. Very strong but somehow very underwhelming at the same time. It just does not feel fun for a pet class. The pets lack the customization and punch I come to expect these days from something like POE or even Last Epoch. It's just broken because corpse explosion was is and will always be broken.

I have not had any disconnects but the lag is astounding. I cannot even enjoy playing constantly rubber banding all over the place. That kind of shit will kill hardcore characters.

Honestly its only the tip of the iceburg. Necro has some truly insane legendaries. Explosive mist for example lets Blood Mist auto trigger every corse explosion at once, which instant resets Blood Mist. On top of everything you don't even need corpse explosion on you bar anymore, allows you to have essentially to have 7 skills instead of 6.

bruh i found a legendary that increased ALL skill damage by up to 61% based on current essence (61% at max essence). needless to say it flat out buffed all my skills by 61% damage because corpse explosion is free (and can even be talented to actually regain 3/6/9 essence per cast) and corpses are easy to generate even without killing anything. and guess what, i found another legendary that buffed all skill damage by 40% whenever i had a barrier up. busted af. walk in the park. could have completed the playthrough on hardcore while blindfolded tbh.

As someone that just replayed d3 as a beginner necromancies, yes, the corpse explosion has always been powerful

i think a portion of his exclamations are about power vs utility vs cost barb has some struggles but seems to work? sorc and necro are just infinitely better with no negatives... and then you have his druid comments...

So far the sorcerer is the one I had most fun with but Necromancer is best class to have to deal with less

I got a legendary that made Blood Mist trigger Corpse Explosion as well as lower the cooldown for each blast. Mixed with Reaper skellys dropping corpses on almost every hit I could stay in Blood Mist almost indefinitely. XD

Corpse explosion may be the reason I main Necro. You can also get a legendary that has 25% to spawn a blood orb upon exploding corpses. So if by chance you do get hit, you can heal right back up.

Got lucky on a ring that rolled with "bloodmist causes corpse' to explode and reduce cooldown by 1.7x seconds for each corpse" so basically ran with reaper skellies that proc corpses on hit then right clicked till vulnerable was applied then just bloodmisted the insta corpse explosions 5,10,15,20 and was invulnerable the whole time. Janky af fastest to 25 by far

What really surprised me with the necromancer is that he just doesn't die. He doesn't even really take any damage, I have no idea why.

You just need to use Amplify Damage, have your minions kill literally 1 thing, then snowball with Corpse Explosion spam. If you're not using Curses in tandem with summons, then of course the summons will be garbage: their master/commander isn't giving them the support they need,

You could solo hell naked in hardcore with a summon necro so where are you getting it from that skellys died in hell easily.. proper use of clay golem and curses and you are golden

Really curious how barb will turn out in comparison to this. My build surely sucks as I went in pretty blind to the particulars but I might as well be hitting with a wet noodle. Barb must be very gear dependent, I could feel it when I(finally) found a new two handed mace but it’s like it’s still not enough. Only lvl 11 though 🤷‍♂️

The FFT level up achievement sound... *chef's kiss*

I like that almost everyone just naturally made the same build with bone spear and corpse explosion to compliment your squad.

if there's anything people have learned from Diablo 2 and 3, its that corpse explosion is THEE necromancer skill. i actually went with blood lance instead of bone spear though, because i found some aspects that increased its efficiency and some legendaries that put extra points in it.

Don't forget that you get the shared bonus stats even on newer characters so the start is way easier with a second or third character than the first

The blight build is fucking insane. Use blight with in creased dmg take corpse explosion with darkness spread and bone prison with the legendary that makes it do blight dmg with the legendary that pulls enemies in with blight dmg. Nothing touches you

definitely my first choice because necro felt just as godlike to me in diablo 3 with corpse explosion and the skeleton mages.

Was definitely a hero class there, hence why was DLC.

Lol I felt the same thing when I got corpse explosion. It soon became a dude standing in place and everything just explodes and dies

Rurikhan found a legendary that causes blood mist to trigger corpse explosion as you float over top of corpses. It’s like machine gun explosions going off.

Necromancers were more broken in three. It's ridiculous. You could command your skeletons to jump across the screen and curbstomp anything. They'd automatically spawn too. Plus their basic attack was across the screen ground spikes.

didnt 2 have it so you could have unlimited spawns tho? you got a minion per level and i dont think there was a level cap. though idk as while it was my favorite i never really went full hard into the game. so for all i know im wrong.

So you capped out around 30/40 minions if I remember right. And while summon mancers were great for general pve they were extremely slow to kill bosses in hell.

Had a blast with Blud Necro at 25 running around with about 1100 HP cause of the fortify mechanic not to mention a op golem 3 mages and 4 skellies while 1 or 2 shotting just about everything with blood nova.

I have this legendary that gives me +3 extra mages, very fun.

I had a similar feeling when I started necro yesterday. It is the strongest character. But till level 20 I had 10 skeletons with me xD

The first beta weekend felt rather good to me, while the Barb level experience was a bit more bumpy, everything felt like it could be done until June. But Druid and Nec feel like they just cobbled them together in 2 days... Early alpha stage.

Looks like they embraced the more Diablo 2 feel of Necromancer. as a Necromancer that loved minion building, this makes me happy.

I got the mist upgrade for corpse explosion that turned it into darkness. was like 400 damage per, lasted 7 seconds.. it was so narly.

@@Uryendel Doesn't work as well on bosses. Forget about tanking The Butcher, he is always agroed on you. World Boss takes away minions in 2-3 shots. You will not have enough corpses to explode or bring new minions. Foe world zerging, sure, but Sorc will win on bosses. In the adventuring shes almost the same as a necro

I've only played for a few hours, but man does it feel nice using your abilities as necro. They look cool, and more importantly, they sound cool. Corpse explosion in particular is high on both.

Melee is always underpowered in ARPGs until it gets the gear + health/lifesteal + affixes to not just survive but thrive. Ranged is good from level 1.

I just arrived at the Werewolf boss in that one dungeon you have to enter for a sidequest early on with my summoning Necro. He 2 shot swipes all the skeletons, and then he hits me 3 times and it's over.

*Really* liking the look of the Necro. If I have two minor gripes? 1) No health sacrifice Blood skill. Have always loved the high risk/reward Bloodmage style in many games, but it really seems to be lacking here. Maybe change one of the Blood Lance upgrades to fill this niche? Stronger/added effect/etc. but costs 5% of your current health. 2) Needs one more corpse consuming skill. Particularly for petless builds already using Blood Surge. Explosion is redundant with Surge, and Corpse Tendrils is cool, but it doesn't consume the corpse so you don't get the benefits (like essence gain) Would love to see a buff skill like "Bone Totem" that consuming a corpse to gain essence and attack speed. In fairness, both of these concerns are easily resolved with items altering skill function and may already be in the works.

As fun as this is, we all know Blizzard is gonna nerf the hell out of this enough to make the necromancer not fun

They will definitely nerf Necromancer because Necromancer is always way too OP, however I have no doubt that the hero will still be a ton of fun. edit: either that, or they will buff the other heroes to match that kind of damage. Necro* already seems the most OP. Barbarian seems like the most in need of buffs, at least at this point.

and then they nerfed Necro into the floor :(

Makes sense.. Barbarian is likely the Most Gear Dependant.. Necros probably have a much more linear power climb but less spiky from Gear... Untill they get that Tran gul set effect

You can get gear that raises the Max limit of summons. If you're spec'ed specifically for summons, any of those pieces is a pretty big spike in DPS.

Like the other guy said m they don’t balance around lvl 25 . I’ve seen closed beta end game footage and necro summoner build falls off hard late game , there’s only one viable necro late game build and you can’t even summon skeletons

I had the same reaction when I have discovered that corpse explosion was free :)

Ha had a chuckle with the achievement Asmongold Challenge lol. I plan to main a Necromancer when the game comes out.

It’s level 5 tier 2… we have 100level and harder tier. The fact that people judge the game with the first area with shitty tier is the proof that people can’t use them brains:/

@@semikolondev I mean. Necromancer and Sorc have been braindead easy and OP in every Diablo game early AND late game. It's not a stretch to assume that if they are OP now they will be later too, given the track record.

There's two tier levels that are locked and there's hardcore, plus it's a beta that purposely has drop rates set to high. What is wrong with some of yall?

I have 2 character to lvl 25 and have never seen the butcher, did you get him in the bery first tutorial dungeon? Wtf.

This is like comparing a pure STR build fighting Malenia for 3 minutes while a pure Sorcerer or Faith build obliterates her in seconds. True balance in game is hard to achieve.

Necromancers in Diablo are all about balance, so you could say they are the balance

I am not shocked, the balance issues with D4 are completely nuts at this stage. Good luck by June darling.

Why are we shocked about imbalance at low level. Yeah adjustment’s need made, but imbalance is going to happen at very early game.

the thing people forget about Asmon, he has already claimed numerous Altars of Lilith. these permanently upgrade ALL characters, so him calling these characters OP isn't very accurate - yes this character is strong, but he is significantly stronger because of the massive increase these Altars give

Those 28 statues give like...1% damage in real numbers. And 2 skill points from account progress. Its really nothing.

Renown helps but not THAT much. And does it even work for the beta? I'm not sure it does because as i understand renown is supposed to persist between characters and for mine it just doesn't right now.

First time ever playing and started necro, i was one shottin elites with bone spear and killin bosses ez mode... playing druid now and have to spam potions

This is how awesome all the classes should feel

It is only up to level 25 on a beta, while I don't have any trust in blizzard to begin with, this doesn't worry me any more than I already was, melee in Diablo has always sucked really really early on.

@@patrickmcpartland1398 tbh, i was playing barbarian ( lvl 21 currently) playing the upheaval one. I have no idea what i am doing and i am obviously playing the veteran version. And killing a boss at lvl 20 or smt felt really hard.. i had to kite all the time , wait for cds and spam upheaval and deathblow on CD. i couldn't stay on it and fight it like.. u know , a barbarian. Felt like i was playing a bad budget sorceress.

I don't know what it is but lvl 20 seems to come with an insane difficulty spike! I played barb last week and necro this week. And on both characters I struggled once I got around lvl 20! Of course getting necro to 20 was a breeze. But I didn't find a single good legendary for my bone Lance build and am getting destroyed by bosses.

First thing I thought too was "Corpse explosion is Free??"

I played through Diablo 2 on Xbox One with my friend who has never played a computer game much less a game like Diablo 2. He chose Paladin and I chose Necromancer and he'd have his auras and such and I'd raise so many skeletons and golems and we'd rock up to a boss with the fucking SQUAD. He thought it was so cool how I was able to have all these mobs with me lol. It was the first time I had played necromancer (I'd only ever played the game once, before the remaster as a solo player as a frenzy or flurry barbarian I forget the move name). We had such a blast but unfortunately by like Act 4 we started playing it less and less and we haven't touched it in a year which kinda makes me sad.

Old school minion master necros were fun but braindead since they do so much tanking and damage for you.

Turning Corpse Explosion into Shadow is weaker, but it makes you the Lich King spamming Defile. It’s great for wave content and add fights. Shadowblight is going to be a fun as hell Build.

Was that an FFTactics audio at the end? Classic

I got a legendary that makes blood mist( a skill that makes you invincible for 3 sec with a 20 cd at 1/5) cast corpse explosion and reduces the cd by like 5sec per corpse. Combine that with things that produces corpses and I can by an un killable mist of explosive doom. It's so fucking stupid and I love it!

Lets be real at least its more interactive than some POE builds...

Poe has 2 skill bars that can go up to 10 buttons vs the 6 of diablo though. But d4 necro seems more click intensive than poe necro

@@AchilleasKouKounari yeah, you dont use 10 buttons tho, at the very best you use 2 to 3, the rest are passives and auras and other mechanics, same with necro poe, you use 3 keys at best, it isnt bad for sure, but of course its not really interactive

@@royalecrafts6252 i think i use a lot more than 2-3 on 95% of the builds, even on necro, raise zombie, srs/skeletons, molten shell, vaal molten shell, a curse, flame dash, convocation, golem, 3-4 auras as you mentioned, they stack up really fast.

There are some real class balance problems that need work. My first character was a rogue and she cannot kill Lilith’s Lament at level 25, in easy mode, regardless of the build I tried. She has decent gear, too. Took me 2 full days to level her up. Yesterday I started a sorceress and in 6 hours had her up to 25 including Lilith’s Lament kill on the first try. On the harder setting. This morning I started necromancer and she is now level 12 plowing thru everything at the harder setting. Played her just over 2 hours, but I am skipping dialog and cutscenes.

That achievement at the end triggered an lol outta me as a wow player.

Corpse Explosion is hilariously powerful. Did the main stronghold in about 10 mins. The Golem is also ridiculous when you send him into hulk mode.
