I was really looking forward to this review. Sounds like the item is completely worth with reworks to your armor.

Brings up the issue with managing all your items in inventory etc & making sure to keep track of loot drops early. Kind of a pain to need to go back n grind for items you didn't need to have.

There’s Barrier Generation and Resource Generation. Do these apply to every generation source or are there exceptions?

The problem really is there is no midpoint for damage taken. You either face tank or get one shotted or near death in one hit. You never get killed slowly outside DoTs (DoTs on higher tier simply slurps your hp and hopefully gets fixed).

That's the effect of Selig, nothing to do with Shako as the Selig absolve 60% of the dmg depends on your mana level. But Selig is bad for Sorc if you go higher tier game like AOZ 11+, as you wont have enough damage to finish the dungeon in time by sacrifice an Amulet slot for defense.@@RiversEnd75

Was it worth losing the title of SSF to get the helm?

Hey Wudijo, I don't know if you read older comments but my main concern with any of the uniques is that they have no resists for the most part (other than minor stats on jewelery). I just did my first level 100 NM dungeon and the only resist I don't have maxed is cold and it's an instant kill for me every time if I get hit by it regardless of armor (I am over the 13500). I do have a couple uniques on my HOTA barb that are "must" for my build. I never would have been able to do what I am doing with my druid from season one that I am now doing with my barb. What I am noticing is that resists I am low on it seems like there are more mobs that are using it to attack me (cold attacks for example). I am not sure if this was touched on anywhere but it seems like a part of the programming of the game. During season one with my druid it seemed like everything was a "vampire" as my resists were better. Anyway, see you at Abattoir of Zir.

yes you need to cap resists and armor when including uniques, it's a tradeoff

Hey Wudijo, can you break down the difference between Damage Reduction vs. the Dmg reduction you get in Armor? How does overall damage reduction work with Armor? It would be good to know as it will help people like me decide which affix to prioritize. Thanks!

What stats are on your gear that you have those levels. That is INSANE

You mentioned hemomancy here. Does that trigger disobedience? Can it trigger other things as well? Lucky hits? Like doombringer, frostburn? As a rogue, what is the best way to implement this? Tried with hemo, much life, guaranteed crit-bow. Was fun, but was too weak late game. Also pulled a few more mobs that i wanted sometimes hehe so mobs came running at me all the time.

Hemonancy is activated any time you use a skill. Hemonancy does trigger disobedience as well. I suggest testing this on the dummies in Kyovashad to verify.

Hemo is typically more so for leveling builds, most end game builds won't use it because of better choices

@@NinjaNerosis Hemo is definitely good during endgame farming. Especially during helltide or bloodtide. With my barb it's still effective in NMD 80 to 90, it clears trash mobs and weakens higher HP mobs. Also, it's another source of healing on top of undying and passives that heal you when you spend a certain amount of resource.

can you go past 15k armour if its buffed? my sorc could never get armour this high...

It's obnoxiously tough to get your armor that high too, have to give up stuff you don't really want to. If it's even possible for your build.

These hidden calculations like the armor are really bothering me. You would never know what was wrong if you didn't hear it from someone who knew how it worked.

The content is spot on accurate. He’s talking about extremely high end game. If you go into avatar of zir with under 10,000 armor a crossbow is probably gonna shot you so all the extra damage you can do and resource generation isn’t going to matter much if the survivability isn’t there and unfortunately, the headpiece is one of the only 4 that role with armor percentage. I had to take off all my Uniques to get my armor between 14 and 15,000 and that’s what we’re going to need for that activity so his opinion is pretty accurate when you just follow the math

isnt it monster lvl around 162? that would make the armor cap reach at 14k armor , wich is achievable with shako, i reach 13860 armor and some of my armor pieces are a bit low lvl

@@_Lag_ lol, when we believed that the monster lvl would be 154+25= 179 it made the armor cap at 15.3 k if I remember correctly, I did reach the cap still with shako. After the campfire I re organised my parangon and it doubled my dps. There are ways to do it with shako but obviously 14k armor makes more sense to be able to up the DPS enough . The down side of my build is that I can't use Thibault and shako. So no bug exploit for me which means not sure enough DPS. Or remove shako and use Thibault bug... To be continued

I can only wear 2 uniques in the 4 armor slots. Currently running Thibault and Selig. Must have armor % and resist on head and chest.

So do we know what moster lvl we will encounter in aoz? Because in the demo it didn't show monster lvls. Maybe they are just lvl 100 with special aoz scaling of their dmg and hp.

Dont forget about helltide elixers, theres one that gives 25% all resist and another gives 900 armor. Also a incense that gives 10 to all resist + 150 armor, so you dont really need to cap resist if u farm a lot, unless they increase elemental damage in zir

Why the fuck would you wait till the season is over? How does that make any sense? The only use for that staff is MEMEING or maybe using it to deal with bosses in abbotoir, but if ur a fairly casual player ur not gonna be PLAYING abbotoir of zir... So, the staff is dogshit, use anything else.

Awesom vid man! Makes me feel better about my build and how I'm going about things! Would be interesting to know what amount of armor translates to damage reduction. I find myself sacrificing damage reduction for armor often and not sure if i should be concerned or not.. Also curious if anyone has really tested Tassets of the Dawning Sky, they are unique pants with an interesting proc on them

for AoZ you want ~13.7-14k armor. I don't think Tassets are good for anything right now, maybe for PvP

Maaan, Wudi. Thanks for this deep insight. Makes me a bit sadder, though. I played D3 for an extended number of years and of course preordered D4. Played D4 since beta all the way until maybe 15 minutes of Season 2. My soul can't push me to pick the game up anymore, and this video kinda adds to the wiseness of my decision. I am currently enthralled with Grim Dawn. I know it's an old game, but I just discovered it because I really wanted to find a game to satiate my Diablo fix. GD is currently fitting that bill with the diversity of builds it offers. 😁

It took 900 runs for Me to get a Shako. Andariel’s dropped four times and Ring of Starless Skies twice along the way. Edit: always on double drop, never a single drop, and nothing changed rng whether solo or with group, pure chance.

no lie guys i got it at run 60ish and doombringer at run 110. 2 starless skies in there as well. i farmed like hell to get 110 runs worth. i wonder if you are using duped mats and maybe Blizz knows somehow. kind of seems impossible to have farmed 1k runs the good old fashioned way.

I haven't got Chako, but instead got Andriel's visage and I'm happy until...

Shako would give me more than 30% dmg buff but than i have to les armor and to les res so when i get one i could not even use it(currintly i use 2 armor uniques)

Shako, melted Heart, armor on legs, chest and some paragon adjustments and I afk NM dungeon T100's... Shako is worth it with the right set up!!

Is andariel that much of a upgrade for poison rogue?

nothing is better than Smoke Grenade + Writhing Band of Trickery unique ring :D rly saved my ass so many times . You are completely safe while those blockheads are running to the decoy

It is like itemization is messed up in this game. AoZ you need a certain amount of armor/health and also need a lot of attack power to bring down the enemies. I feel like they are gonna make you pick one or the other unfortunately

Joe Piepiora said in the last campfire chat just before the 49 min mark that they focused more on scaling up enemy health in AoZ, rather than significantly scaling up enemy damage. This makes me wonder if all these popular D4 content creators are overshooting their survivability targets. It just seems like their estimates are based upon how damage currently scales in NM dungeons.

Enemies in AoZ are not going to directly have higher damage numbers, but due to the increased level difference (154 vs 162-ish) you will inadvertently receive more damage via way of no longer reaching the armour cap if you're still sitting on around 13,300 armour (which is the armour cap for level 154 enemies). In effect, the new armour cap is around 14,000 (I doubt it's 15k like Wudi says) and not reaching this armour cap has some sharp implications on (specifically) your physical resistances.

I don’t think it’s debatable. It’s easily the best universal helm. It’s got every stat you want and the plus 4 is also extra defensive

I am on 200 runs and still no shako. But I will share with you a true story. I have 2 friends that I play with, one is my cousin and the other childhood friend. Both are kinda not interested in the game but play on ocasion. First, I run with my cousin, within 10 runs, he gets 2 shakos. And he swears he had one in the past drop and dismantled because he thought it was crap. Ok, I try to keed cool and ofc be happy for my cousin. After that, I gift some mats to muly other friend, because ofc he can’t be bothered to play and farm. Within 20 runs, he gets the sorc staff, Shako, Andariel and the starless ring. How can I keep my sanity after this?

It is so difficult to reach the armor cap while also having good affixes' in most cases along with resistance that I don't even bother. I'll be happy clearing just lvl1 of the zir dungeons so that I can max all the glyphs. You already know that it won't drop better gear and will just be dick measuring.

I really hope nm dungeons get addressed. They really only exist for glyph xp and not much else. I've done dozens of T90+ dungeons and I try to just run by everything anymore because they're just a slogfest.

Why is it (Harliquins Crest) called a Shako?

It's a throwback to Diablo 2. In addition to their unique name, the item type was also included in the name of a unique. Harlequin Crest is the unique name, Shako is the item type(to be pedantic it's the elite version of the item "cap" as in a hat) and due to Harlequin Crest being a mouthful and it being the only Shako worth mentioning in the game, people just started calling it Shako even though strictly technically that could refer to any Shako like a magic one or rare or whatever. It's the same with The Grandfather, which in D2 would have been "The Grandfather Colossus Blade" iirc or Windforce being "Windforce Hydra Bow". Colossus Blades and Hydra Bows can be found all over as normal items, magic items, rare items, but wouldn't have the unique name.

I was extremely lucky to have one drop on my third run of Durial. Amazing armour piece.

How do you know when you're armor capped? The tool tip never changed when you swapped armor. The only thing that changes was the total armor Stat

I haven’t watched the video yet but my opinion on shako Very overrated I would use it on certain builds one that probably doesn’t use a basic skill and can access good defense elsewhere I prefer the total armor helm with might and cdr when running most builds

As a Barb main, ONLY use Harlequin Crest for the Resource Generation IF you DO NOT have enough Resource Gen. 4 ranks (20% dmg to main skill(s) is NOT WORTH it; - HOTA itself already hits hard with max Fury - Grandfather is #1 priority Uber Unique - #2 Ring of Red Furor - #3 Melted Heart of Selig - #4 Doombringer - #5 Harlequin Crest Harlequin is better for non-Barb characters

These high caps r just for pve bc the monsters r such high lvl. I think on pvp the cap is much smaller bc players r lvl 100. Think like 10.5k or somethin

12k armor, but with disobidience you armor cap imediately

In the recent Diablo stream, the player only had 10k for tier 1 and 9k for tier 10. He did fine and was not squishy. Perhaps armor matters more for later levels, but to say that you have to have 13K without providing context is really disingenuous.

Let alone it's being given to us with only 6 weeks left in the season. For a glyph that will make any other content in the game easier then it already is.

Can confirm. Sorc with selig can sit in room littered with elites with a butcher and not come close to dying. Dps lacks drastically so probably not a good call for AoZ

drop tibaults. +4 to ball lightning is a 26% damage increase vs 40 for Tibaults. 14% is a fair tradeoff for all the defensive stats you get a normal pair of pants. Dropping raiment hurts more, but it's a neccesary sacrifice.@@sidneynguyen4658

This is a design issue, give the Harlequin Crest 50% damage reduction, there fixed it. An item like this cannot lose to a random helm just because it has + to armor. I mean why grind for a HC if I know I won't use it?

I think if Uber uniques could also have a legendary aspect added to them that would make them truly unique. A lot of uniques just aren’t worth using due to losing out on stats or another aspect.

An ARPG isn't a casino in Vegas. Acquiring good items shouldn't depend entirely on luck.

Just play immortal infini heal barb and even with 11-12k armor you cant die to anything , afk butcher and even 4 elite packa with lightning storm ,

"You become more squishy" is a weird argument to make against something that gives a 20% dmg reduction....

This thing dropped the first time I killed Duriel, somehow. I didn't realize it was that rare until later!

This is why I never stick with this game or arpgs doing hundreds of runs for nearly no chance to get anything is a waste of my valuable time

How the hell do you get that much armor? I’ve got around 5-6k…

Armor percentage on the four items that it can roll on head, chest pants and amulet. Then it’s really just paragon board stuff. The four pieces of gear with armor percentage make a massive difference.

@@_Lag_ I will look at that. What happens when you have a build that relies on using one or more of those slots? I recently moved from a BL build, fun but old, and moved into a fireball build. My amulet spot is technically open but I’ve got a godslayer crown and. Tibault’s will…that takes two of those slots away. I could potentially get away with not running the Crown but not having a ‘gathering’ function can lower the effectiveness of the build. I’m guessing that if I don’t dedicate those slots the way your are advising, I just have to eat the loss in armor value..meaning that I either can’t run this endgame content or I die an awful lot more when I do… Thanks for your input, I will certainly revisit my gear selection today because of it.

Having high armor % the skulls give way more than 250 armor

@@Ender7j yeah man unfortunately I have to take off my tibs and deathless visage so I can roll armor percentage on those two pieces. I’m sacrificing some damage, but I figure staying alive is more important. But we will just have to wait until Tuesday and see what it’s like. The only unique I’ll probably be taking in now, is lidless wall.

@@_Lag_ I just rolled some mid tier gear to replace my crown and Raiment. Got my armor from 4500 to 9700…something like that. Haven’t been able to test it, would have to run a T60 or so to compare

i must be the luckiest player ever. 350 runs really? wow, no wonder my friends hate me. 150 runs and i have 2x doombringers, 1x ring of starless skys, and 1x shako. The first doombringer i got on my very first duriel run.
