I feel so lucky to have both Baahubali films on our American Netflix. My roommate has shown me bits of these movies over the years, but it wasn't until last month that I got to sit down and finally watch them all the way through with him. This has always been one of my favorite songs from these films. Like everything else about these films, it is shot, acted, and sung beautifully. I am absolutely in love with this song. I admire Baahubali Jr's determination to reach this woman, and the song portrays that perfectly. I think it's a pretty darn accurate depiction of how determined we can be, the desire in our hearts when we chase after a beautiful dream with everything we've got when we put our minds to it, and how the beauty of a truly good dream will never fade. It's like a siren call, but one that will inspire you to press on to the promise of something wonderful rather than threatening to harm you. Just beautiful.

Was Bhallaladeva evil? Yeah! We all know that he was evil and manipulated everyone. But humans don't come in black and whites. Everyone is different because everyone comes from different places. To understand his hate for Bahu which made him such a heartless man, we need to understand where he comes from. Unlike Bahu, he was never in good company. He had his father whose mind was filled with anger, hatred, jealousy and frustration. Bhalla is just like us everyone who can't easily share his 'own' mother with anyone. And I don't blame him for this! But that is the starting point of his hatred. Bhalla in no way was less than Bahu. He was as intelligent, as smart & as good in almost everything. To be frank, I would say Bhalla was more politically shrewd than Bahu. But he carried that hate which didn't let him grow. Sivagami didn't discriminate between Bahu and Bhalla. She gave some extra attention to Bahu since he didn't have his parents and also Bahu being an outgoing lovable person bonded with her so well that she started loving him so much. If Bijjila was not in the picture, Bahu would have won Bhalla's heart too. I bet on that! Bhalla himself distanced him from his mom because of his hate for Bahu. And due to this, Sivagami became largely attached with Bahu (emotionally and psychologically). And Bhalla again misunderstood this as something else (that Sivagami is biased). Sivagami didn't properly converse this with Bhalla and she let that awkwardness grew between them. She is at fault here more than Bhalla. Bhalla is a child and she should have taken steps. But from her side, it is the hate for her husband. Her husband was always bitching about her to Bhalla and she knew it. This made her slightly uncomfortable around Bhalla and she didn't know how to fix it. This is the another reason she never mentions Bhalla as her elder son but mentions him as 'own' son. The only time she mentioned that she has two sons was when she was feeding milk to them sitting as Rajmata in the court. After they grew up, the relationship dynamics changed! She asked to equally distribute weapons (during Kalakeya war) among two princes and not her two sons. That's why I say she was not a foster mom, rather Bahu's mother figure. Sivagami knew that Bhalla is insecure about Bahu but she couldn't help but give kingship to Bahu since he was deserving. Bhalla became undeserving not because he was evil but because he was so much into winning Bahu and not hearts of people. He is like that fastest sprinter who turns back to see how many people are behind him. Coming back to point again, Sivagami wanted to fix this insecurity of Bhalla. That is why she abused her powers for the first time. She wanted to undo her mistakes. And I would want to mention one thing about Bahu and Bhalla. If Bhalla was open about his hate for Bahu, I bet that Bahu would have fixed that. Bahu is simply an ocean of love and a naturally empathetic person, he would have himself made Bhalla's patch-up with Sivagami. But Bhalla didn't befriend Bahu due to the poison fed by his father. If he had befriended him, I can cent per cent say that he would him loved him more than a cousin brother. But he didn't show that hate. He let it build up with him. And he grew distant from his mom and his cousin brother too. Bhalla even was taking Bahu's playfulness for his evilness. Remember how he got so furious when he was just teasing him to be his army commander? Bahu on the other side left his efforts to befriend him due to his quiet nature. I am sure he would have made his efforts but Bhalla didn't reciprocate because of his father. No child is evil when born, it's all the impact of words parents tell him/her. Sivagami gets so much into the manipulation of Bhalla only due to this. She knew that she was wrong in promising someone for marriage without her consent, she knew that she is wrong to crown someone against people's wishes, she knew that snatching Bahu's post is wrong and she knew that chaining up a pregnant woman is wrong. She is after all not a fool but a administer of an empire as wide as Mahishmati! She just wants to reform her relationship with Bhalla once again and she got that. Bhalla started reducing his distance from her. He reduced the distance because he wants to manipulate her against Bahu and she thought that he took out all the misunderstandings for her from his heart. And that's when the great Sivagami Devi becomes just a key doll in her own son's hands. She wanted to be in his good books and didn't want to even give a chance for him again to doubt about her love for him. When her relationship with Bahu went sour, she was not angry over the fact that he stood against her but because Bahu saved someone who was the reason for her not being able to fulfil her son's wish. For Sivagami, Devasena was the last straw to gain her son's trust & love back but Devasena backed up, that too aggressively. That's why Sivagami probably for the first time did something unethical (asking Devasena to be arrested). Sivagami always has her guards up and shows little emotions. She is emotional but didn't want to show her vulnerabilities. And to add on, she was Rajmata too. She didn't get proper time to solve conflicts between her and Bhalla. Even if she gets, Bijjila is there to spoil that. She always had a relationship full of unconditional love with Bahu. Bahu was the only one who would make Sivagami smile. Bahu gave her love without expecting anything/conditions. If we look closely, Sivagami was very fond of Bahu not because of him being her favorite but Bahu loved her in the way no one ever loved her. Her husband gave her headache and her 'own' son was always listening to his father. Sivagami knew that Bhalla somewhere dislikes her relationship with Bahu but didn't have an idea about how much he hates Bahu. In the name of giving compensation to Bhalla, she went into 'pleasing mode'. And like I said before, Bhalla is a smart guy. He reads people and makes their weaknesses his strength. He knew that Sivagami's flaw lies in her conflict between her two sons and how much she wants to be in the good books of Bhalla again. He knew that Devasena's flaw lies in her pride and sharp tongue. He knew that Bahu's weakness lies in his responsibility to protect Devasena's respect (made him furious by using Setupati to touch Devasena inappropriately). And also knew why his father didn't succeed in changing Sivagami (his bad timed talks). That's why he waited for a proper time to make use of everyone's weakness. I sometimes feel for Bhalla more than Bahu. As Bahu explored outside and got everyone's love, he didn't feel that he needs a throne to claim some power. But Bhalla was simply a prisoner of his mind. His hate for Bahu caught him so much. He distanced himself from his mom due to his father and blamed Bahu. He didn't explore and understand people but blamed Bahu for getting everyone's love. And this hate slowly made to crave for anything Bahu has. Bahu snatched his mother's love from his point of view! He actually didn't plan to get throne through Devasena. He actually planned for a rift between Bahu and Sivagami by asking someone Bahu loved & by fate he hits the jackpot called 'the throne'. *thanks to Devasena's sharp tongue* Mahishmati people love Bahu so he also needs the same love from people of Mahishmati. And this can only come from the throne. Bahu loves Devasena so he needs Devasena for himself. Wondering why he was such a bad king? Insensitive and brutal? Because he never wanted the throne he just wants to be loved like Bahu. He erected a big statue to make people worship him but what he didn't understand is love comes from giving not taking! Bahu was worshipped because he simply gave so much to everyone. He gave much needed respect for katappa, he gave much needed service & love for Sivagami after her long tiring days, he gave Devasena her dignity and self respect, he gave 'unconditional' love for people, played with children irrespective of their class and talked comfortably & empathetically with women irrespective of their age. In other words, Bhalla just wants to be loved. He yearned for love but didn't know how to get it and always used the wrong ways. Love and respect are always earned, never comes in a platter.
