DFW ice storm: Trucks and jeeps help tow 18-wheelers that got stuck on ice along I-20. Unbelievable!

A fresh layer of sleet started falling in South Dallas, coating the roads in a new sheet of slush and ice. WFAA's William Joy is live with an update.

Wrong. No state tax means youre on your own. For people that did pay state tax in other states then it's up to the govt to be proactive and to fix the problems. Also, in Dallas you pay tolls, so the state govt is somewhat responsible for helping out.

I swear The City of Dallas faces nationwide embarrassment every single time it snows here. If it isn’t the power grid, its the snow-related homelessness crisis, or the lack of tools needed to support roads and critical infrastructure during winter storms. There’s no reason truckers should be traveling south from states like Colorado and Oklahoma and getting stuck on roadways in Dallas; North Texas needs to do better!

TX doesn’t want to spend from the budget to add salt 🧂 or deicer, I am certain they won’t like to replace the roadways. The chains will also mess up the tires. Cable tire chains are great for ice. All of those claiming that it is the fault of the state have no idea how hard it is to treat roads during ice storms. You can pretreat the roads, but that only lasts until cars and trucks start driving on the roads. And when there is a lot of traffic, many that shouldn’t be out, it only gets harder. Highway dept trucks can’t get through the traffic to apply more de-icing material and once the ice starts to build up, it is a lost cause. When it is this bad out, just stay off the roads less it is an emergency.

News Flash; just in. Texas big rig driver discovers that there is a device used by truck drivers in the northern states called tire chains. These tire chains are put on the drive tires and sometimes on one of the trailer tires to enable big rigs to drive slowly on ice and snow to get to dry pavement or to get off an icy road to parking. The Texas driver was amazed to learn that big rig drivers in the northern states carry these chains on their trucks for icy road situations. Who would have thought that these tire chains have been around for decades?

When it's icy like this, any one that decides to drive and is in an accident should have to pay double the cost of emergency responses cost.

People who are coming from out of town on business like these trucks or because they are travelling period, should not be punished because once again TxDot didn't do their job and treated the highways.

Maybe if the accident victims sued the state for not adding salt or deicer to the roads, something would be done about it. It isn’t rocket science. The weather channel showed the ice heading in that direction. With all the high property taxes ( higher than most states) they should’ve been able to cover the cost.

Climate change is real. Do you really need to go there? Texas has been getting snow and ice storms for a very long time. I remember being in Waco decades ago when the whole city shut down because of snow and ice.
