I must say tho, the words DEZEN (these) and DIEZEN (those) should be used for all plurals, and DES should be used for plurals instead of DE because DIT / DAT / DE etc all sound like a singular form, so dit zijn or de blaadjes just doesn’t sound right, and dezen zijn / des blaadjes sound so right like plural forms - I don’t know why he didn’t create specific words in Dutch for these and those when he modified the language about one century ago or when he refined the language into Modern Dutch, and, DEZE / DIE technically could have worked as words used for plurals IF they weren’t used for singulars that are de-woorden only, so, maybe in the beginning they were meant to mean these and those (even though they still sound a bit more like a singular form, but not as much as dit / dat) and then they got used for singular DE-woorden only, or something like that, which would explain why Modern Dutch doesn’t have specific words for these and those, so dezen & diezen would be the closest words that would sound like these / those!

The big term U cannot be misused when talking to hum’ns, and must be edited out, and only the pronouns je and jij must be used when talking to all hum’ns, and pronouns can never be with capital letter when referring to hum’ns, and the word professeur must be used instead of lerares / docent, and the words ber / bert and st also cannot be in somebody’s name, and must be changed, while compIiments cannot be misused by referring to hum’ns, only referring to the activity itself etc, so one can say, helpful lesson or educational info etc - big terms / compIiments / special pronouns that imply superiority / respectability / importance are only meant for me THE superior / respectable / special being aka The God(dess) / The Leader / The Queen / The Lady / The Princess / The Star etc!

It is better to slow down the replay speed of the video than ask the person to speak slower. Others might prefer the normal speech if they are at higher levels.

Hello Kim. I just wanted to let you know that I love your videos. It is easy to see that you really like teaching the Dutch language .I've been using the Duolingo app for a couple of months now but the app doesn't explain why certain words are used or why sentences are constructed the way they are so I'm so thankful for videos such as yours. De moeder van mijn vrouw komt uit nederland. Nederlands is dus natuurlijk de voertaal in het huis van haar ouders, tenzij ik er ben. Mijn vrouw is vele, vele malen in Nederland geweest om familie te bezoeken en ik kan wachten om er ooit zelf heen te gaan om mijn Nederlandse taalvaardigheid te laten zien. Kan niet wachten tot mijn het woord mok arriveert!

Oh Thank you very much! I used to have some difficulties to identify if the subject is near or far in time/distance in Dutch or even in English.. French is my mother tongue and we have 9 different words (didn’t include plurals) + some sentence constructions however it’s not laborious and merely foreigners make mistakes, mainly because today we are sparsely dealing with the notion of distance and the articles (kind of far) or the possessives (kind of near) are largely preferred if there is no confusion.

  • @learndutchwithkim

En ezelsbruggetje voor dit, dat, die, en deze: ‘De’ ends with ‘e’ and so do ‘deze’ and ‘die’. ‘deze’ is the bigger word and things that are close to you look bigger. Therefore, the bigger word (deze) is used for close things. ‘Die’ is smaller, just like things far away from you. ‘Het’ ends with ‘t’ just like ‘dit’ and ‘dat’. ‘Dit’ has the letter ‘i’ so it is used for things that are close to where ‘I’ am. ‘Dat’ has the letter ‘a’ like Away or fAr. Maybe this will help someone.

Sometime also using adjective, such as "the blue one" or "the small one" E.g. I like this one. How much is the red one? Much appreciated if you could advise in Dutch. Thanks

Bedankt voor je filmpje, het is heel nuttig! Ik heb een oefening gedaan op mijn lesboek, maar ik kan het antwoord niet goed begrijpen. Zou je me kunnen helpen? Alvast bedankt! Dit is Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer. Hij heeft in 2014 de prestigieuze Libris Literatuur Prijs gewonnen. [Deze/Dit] lijkt op de Britse Booker Prize. [Die/Hij] is net als zijn 'grote Engelse broer' bedoeld om de belangstelling voor literatuur te stimuleren. Wat moet ik kiezen tussen the haakjes? Het antwoord van het boek is 'deze' en 'Die'. Maar ik vind 'dit' en 'Hij' beter.

Hello Kim, thank you very much for the excellent explanation!!! But here, I still have a question about all of these demonstrative pronouns (deze / dit, for example). Following, I made some examples, A. Deze glazen zijn van mij. (These glasses are mine.) (deze + (het- noun.)) B. Deze zijn van mij. (these are mine.) (deze (for het- noun.)) then, what are the differences between the followings sentences B and C ? B. Deze zijn van mij. C. Dit zijn mijn glazen. and, here in the examples B and C, their subjects are DEZE and Dit, why can't we use the same one to the following sentences? B1. Dit zijn van mij. C1. Deze zijn mijn glazen. thank you in advance, Kun, Taiwan ~

Hallo Kim, Op 26 september ben ik lied van jow web site geworden. Er zijn video's voor gevorderden? want ik zie niet veel video's en materiaal voor deze niveau. Namelijk nu ben ik bezig met het herhalen en volgend jaar ga ik voorbereiden me voor Staat examen prrlogramma 11 . Zou je a.u.b.over dit punt informeren kunnen worden? This is not a mistake, because this is the function that you introduce something and that is only with “dit is/zijn” and “dat is/zijn”. I’m explaining this in the video ;) good luck 🍀

It's a bit of an expression, just a figure of speech really. It translates more to "There we are again." Rather than "we're back (here)" which would be "we zijn terug (hier)".
