    @@justinkiddrummer LEt me say facts in your face you don't like meat that means you don't like most people so you like animals more than people, so you have 10 cats,cats rhyme with dogs,dogs are man best friend so saying you don't like meat means you don't like humans saying you don't like animal because most people eat meat to save animal because, if we all eat grass the cow will die because we won't have a lot of grass and that means we will die, and the wolfs will have nothing to eat so they will die and all the ice will melt because nobody are planting trees to stop the heat so polar bears will die and penguins will die to so from the ice melting means the water level will be higher so all the other animals will die. the more you know the better.

    One day you will realise that the vast majority of humanity couldn't care less about animals, veganism is growing but meat consumption increases globally. Do you really think you will stop the 1.5B Chinese eating pork? Especially when they can now afford it, or quell the demand for meat in Africa as their economies grow. I hear the point about the horrors of animal agriculture and understand your position, but your fight is futile other than to self gratify your perceived higher morality in your tiny community. @@hsdjsdshdhsdnsmsd6247 ...and? Tu quoque. This religious person claims humans have souls. I would not claim they do or do not. I'm an atheist and I don't believe we do but I have no knowledge on whether we actually have souls or not. Either way, neither Ed or 'Ethical Revolution' made a claim. So the only one that has a burden of proof is the Catholic in the video. This persons' justification is essentially 'thousands of years ago they didn't write it explicitly in a book' - which is a poor evidence to substantiate the truth of the claim.

    Religious people who are like this man are psychopathic. He doesn't care about the effect on the victim, only that it's an impure or sinful desire on the part of the perpetrator. His whole "sex is a sin without the intent of having children" justifies men raping women for the purpose of impregnating them. I'm sure he (like many religious people of his ilk have openly said) thinks the wrong of rape is that the man is being "sinful" towards God in his sexual desires (thou shalt not commit adultery, thou shalt not covet) rather than the pain and violation of rights inflicted on the woman. If he comes back with "women have souls, animals don't": At one point people argued that indigenous Americans and Africans didn't have souls (which meant at the time and probably still to him means the possibility of understanding the Bible and converting to Christianity) and thus they could be enslaved and didn't deserve moral consideration. Where in the Bible does it say that indigenous and Black people have souls? Why would all these respected theologians (look up the Valladolid debate) believe that indigenous and Black people don't have souls and are closer to animals? Where does his religion say that all humans have souls? It doesn't. The Bible explicitly justifies and mandates slavery and genocide. And where does his religion say that non-human animals don't have souls? There are some passages where it says animals are the same as us in all important ways too, it's a contradictory text. If there was unlimited time, I would also press him harder on his belief that the existence of God and souls and other religious ideas have any basis in science or objective reasoning. It is hard to argue with a religiopath though (coining a word that should exist if it doesn't already), since he really has no moral reasoning skills of his own, only references to what he's been told by the Pope and his bishops.

The Bank for International Settlements was established in the early 1920s with a stated purpose of facilitating German WW1 reparations. Nothing was further from the truth. The Swiss Pharaohs using the BIS started to raid European countries for their wealth. In the late 1930s an enormous storehouse of oil was found in Saudi Arabia. The House of Windsor (UK monarchy, formerly 'Mountbatten', formerly 'Battenberg' Germans) quickly embraced Saudi Arabia as its vassal and the Swiss pharaohs of "neutral" Switzerland set up a shipping fleet (purportedly "aid" ships) that transported Saudi Arabian oil to Germany. A war would soon begin. The finance and the energy source had been found to protract a war between Pharaohs, by and on behalf of Pharaohs, for a half decade. Obviously critical thinking and logical intelligence are foreign concepts to this indoctrinated guy but he probably has a willpower to study and a good memory to remember what he studied to pass his exams. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. It doesn’t take high IQ to understand and admit that the morals behind veganism are very compelling. It takes intellectual honesty, empathy muscles and the right moral compass ( religion is not). The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge. Kids and illiterate people sometimes get it easier because they don’t have this illusion.

    What do you mean by 'high' IQ? This individual's IQ is almost certainly on the right side of the bell curve, although if I had to guess, it wouldn't be astoundingly far in that direction. Having a high IQ doesn't make you a critical thinker. Our cognition didn't evolve for philosophy. It evolved for winning arguments or deceiving others to gain domination or get out of a bad situation, or to acquire good behavioural survival strategies. High IQ individuals have these cognitive biased just like everyone else, which we inherited from our evolutionary past, it's just that having a high IQ also makes it easier to learn the techniques to transcend those biases and think in a novel, artificial way.

    @M_SS1

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@goji5887 One of the dictionary definitions of murder is, simply: "to kill or slaughter inhumanly or barbarously". I'm sure you know most words have more than one definition in dictionaries, and apart from the first definition of murder, which is the one referring to the law (and it specifies so on that entry, before the definition - it says in italic "law"), there are other definitions, and the one I've mentioned is one of them. Of course, we could go on an endless loop saying things like 'Oh, but what about animals that get killed "gently", and not inhumanely or barbarously?', and we could be robotic and adhere to dictionary definitions to explain the whole universe, fitting there all existing emotions, and so on, but we're not robots, and dictionaries don't explain all existence by any means. The example 'Oh, but what about animals that get killed "gently", and not inhumanely or barbarously?' corroborates this, as there's no such thing as humane slaughter (and before somebody says anything, I'm not talking about when an animal is euthanised to stop them from suffering if there's no solution to their suffering, I'm taking about slaughter). And if someone says "oh yes, there is humane slaughter cause the dictionary says so", then we could consider that someone a robot. Laws also say a hell of a lot of unjust things are legal, but so what! The best example of unbelievably unjust laws are those that allow the imprisonment of slaves (animals) that are kept in barbaric conditions for the sole purpose of killing them (and to anyone with some feelings, that is murder) to satisfy human taste buds. F#*k the dictionary, and f&%k what old stories related to religions say: killing someone who wants to live IS WRONG, and I don't need a dictionary to contradict that.

  • @M_SS1

    @M_SS1

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@goji5887 Another unjust law is that you can take a gun, go to the forest and kill a poor animal. But the law says you can. SO? Does that make it OK? I'm Spanish, and bullfights are not only allowed by law, but MY taxes pay for the whole process, from the farmers to the bullfights and the maintenance of the bullrings etc. So, books say it's OK to torture and kill animals for the sake of entertainment, and that those opposed to it must pay for it too (just like all farmers get subsidies from governments that come from everyone's taxes, including vegans), and I can't say it's wrong because that would mean I'm "bending" the law books "to my individual needs", as you put it? I've been a vegan for longer than we (vegans) were acknowledged (and not very accurately) in the Spanish dictionary, so does that mean that the years I was a vegan before the dictionary finally included us, I didn't exist? Again, for existential things, f*#k the dictionary.

    Do you want the world to go vegan? The majority of the worlds population is not very well educated. If we keep treating them this way, think of ourselves as superior to them, then there's no way we could ever educate this majority. Let's get down to the level they want to debate at and respect the way they think, like Ed does. Let's try to convince them of the fact that eating meat is morally wrong. You guys are achieving the exact opposite. You're not superior to someone with a lower IQ or lower education.

    Unfortunately there are so many people that lack compassion for farm animals and likely it is in large part because society actively normalises the suffering of farm animals. Once it is so engrained in them that animals are there to serve human pleasures, I am doubtful that Ed's moral arguments, which require a certain level of empathy, can really resonate with people like this. I wonder whether they would respond better to more human-centric arguments, like the fact that animal farming is actively using up land and resources for humans, is financially unviable and irresponsible etc...

I personally love veggie burgers because there is millions of combinations and flavors of different veggies... the alternative is a meat burger. Meat flavored. No im kidding, the flavors in most burgers come from... you guessed it... plants ;D. Anyway im getting tangent here. Hope it helps

    @Ribeye Demon also based on your comment if you are one of those people who is like "ewww vegans eat soy blah blah blah.." just go read the ingredients label on any dry good in the grocery store. Does it contain soy? Surprise! Most likely... vegans dont just eat tofu and soy so I am politely asking if you hold that view please let go of it :) often times you look in the produce section of a grocery store, thats representative. Or the organic, natural goods sections of stores are also representative. There is also a massive percentage (I usually say 70%+ but could be way off because of my dietary choices) of regular processed goods in the grocery store that are vegan. It really just depends on what vegan you are talking to. Some prefer a wholefoods plant based diet. Some eat mostly processed foods. Some eat a raw food diet. It just depends.

He wouldn't even go there after he had basically brought up if everybody agreed on it and it's in the Bible at that it's okay. He never once said that things were wrong like the way women were treated the way people of color or of other races were treated enslavement of any kind. And Ed asked him blatantly he went around it in a really funny way or somebody who disagreed was slavery what's a well yeah that's wrong we've learned. Great video, Ed! I've been looking for responses to religious arguments against veganism, because they usually boil down to animals being lesser than humans and humans having some innate right to control them, and I learned a lot from your responses. Around 22:10 when he made his point that "what we do to animals is morally justifiable so long as the intent of the action is not evil," so abusing a dog is only wrong because it fulfills an evil desire to hurt, but what if you weren't doing it because you wanted to act on an evil desire to hurt but you just wanted to have fun? He is probably fine with bull fighting because people do it for fun and as sport, which is not evil. So what if there is a sport about who can bludgeon a dog to death the fastest? What about a sport to see who can stab the most cats in a minute? What about a sport to see who can put the most blood on a wall by throwing puppies at it? All those are fine if it's a sport?

  • @crawbug8932

    @crawbug8932

    2 жыл бұрын

    There are components to the morality of an action: How much harm the action causes How bad of a person you are for doing it Bludgeoning a dog to death is an equally bad action in terms of suffering/harm regardless of your reason for doing it. But how harshly we judge you depends on your motives. If you were starving to death on an island devoid of plant life, we wouldn't judge you negatively. But it you were simply looking for sadistic pleasure, we would be highly critical. Both aspects are relevant in different areas: People are punished by the legal system according to how bad the action is (you can't/shouldn't improson someone for being a bad person if they didn't do anything bad). How bad of a person you are for doing the action is relevant for someone who is deciding if they want to be in a relationship with you. Overall, the consequences of an action are more important. To understand why, consider this: would you rather live in a world where there are no bad people but bad things happen or a world where there are bad people but no bad things happen? Unless you are extremely concerned with the private thoughts/intentions of others, I think you would choose the world where no bad things happen. The main reason we care about bad people is because they tend to do bad things. Being bad on it's own doesn't really matter, it's the consequences that are worth caring about. The guy in this video basically ignored the "how bad the action is" part and asserted that the only things that matter are your intentions. Even if we granted this premise, buying animal products is still immoral. You can't buying animal products while being fully aware of the horrors it causes while also having moral intentions. Putting sensory pleasure over the well being of others may well be the most immoral intention possible, which is exactly what is happening when someone buys animal products. "My taste pleasure is more important that you not being tortured and killed" is morally bankrupt in both aspects.

    Ed, what a terrific, thoughtful response to his first question. Of course any change will be hard on certain industries and we should have compassion for those hurt by that and it's very helpful to come up with ways to ease any necessary transition. Btw, on this topic, the analogy that comes to my mind is curing cancer. If we could do that overnight, it would throw a LOT of people out of work. Doctors, nurses, researchers, entire facilities would be defunct. Yet, I don't think people would consider that a valid reason not to cure cancer overnight if we could.

    @@iams2109 Holocaust: destruction or slaughter on a mass scale. I wasn't saying animal slaughter is the same as the Jewish holocaust, but good point. I was only saying how legality does not make an action morally justified. Logically speaking it is a holocaust - killing 7.4 billion animals every single day. Once you find out an action is harming another, we have a duty to speak up.
