Devon Call-Changes at West Down, Devon

Ойын-сауық

Devon call-changes being rung on the ground-floor 6 at West Down, near Barnstaple. Note the unusual dedication (St Calixtus) extremely long tail ends!! They go nicely and have a good old-fashioned tone to them. In days of past, this was one of the very top Devon call change towers, and the ringing we had here was of a very good standard!!
Tenor 8-2-3 in Aflat

Thanks so much. I live in West Down and got married in St Calixtus. I am working in the Gulf right now and miss home very much, but for 3:12 I was back there on a Sunday morning :) Thanks again.

8-2-3 is the weight of the tenor, or the biggest bell in the ring. It can be transposed as 8cwt, 2 quarters and 3 pounds, or 433kg in modern weight (Approx 51kg per cwt) The woman calling is swapping bells positions, so "one-three" means bells 1 and 3 swap their positiions so the 3 rings before the 1. This was a slightly different style of ringing for me, perhaps not as exciting as changeringing, but very interesting indeed :)
