    Great on every album. Every EP. Maybe not smooth noodle maps or sonething for everybody. But they gave an insane amount of talent away for only little recognition. That should show you right away that they were about artistic progress rather than commercial success--even if they did get it 2 or 3 times.

    @@peytonbass5396 Yeah, I grew up up a California boy during the 80s too (I've SINCE relocated and lived in some other states), so I remember THAT station. We west coasters were damn lucky to have a station like KROQ and the opportunity to hear all that interesting music that it played, cause MOST other OTHER places DIDN'T - they just had the Top 40 stations and the stuck in the hippy-era "Classic rock" stations and THAT's about IT!

    This video proves what insanely good musicians Devo were. Everything about this is fantastic. Even with the insanely high energy and tempo, it's just spot fucking on, from drumming to vocals to synth to guitar. I am very fortunate to have seen them play this in person.

  • @dozerla2705

    Alan Myers is a BOSS drummer on this track - I mean, an absolute MACHINE - one of the most UNDERRATED drummers in rock.

  • @joanpelpinosas

    @joanpelpinosas

    7 жыл бұрын

    True, his drumming style has clearly been overlooked. I mean, don't get me wrong but i love Devo and all but it kind of dissappointed me the fact that after the release of their first 3 albums, they completely changed their musical direction which somewhat "overlooked" Mr. Myers drumming. Resulting in his leaving the band. 😢

  • @dozerla2705

    @dozerla2705

    Agreed, as Devo increasingly focused/relied on drum machines vs. live drums, Alan must have been made to feel obsolete, so he left. A loss.

    I saw them in the Agora Ballroom in Atlanta, Ga. when they were promoting the album "Duty Now For The Future." I took my girlfriend to the concert who hated Devo. She thought I was taking her to the Blondie concert that was across the street at the Fox theatre. I saw them a few years later at the Fox when they were in the "Whip It" days. Two of the best concerts I ever saw. Hell they were better than the Stones. Mick sounded like Krusty the clown.

    Alan was the heart and soul of DEVO. After Alan was aced out of Devo by Mark and Gerry's excessive use of 1st gen synthetic drums programs. After Devo's fourth album New Traditionalists there really was not much for Alan to do. don't you just love how they fuse punk rock and the synthesizers. How i wish they'd do "synthesizer-infused" punk rock once again. It would be fun if my generation would enjoy these tunes. how i wish.

    Watched this live video 5-6 times now. Back in 1980, all I ever heard was the "Freedom of Choice" album. This concert clip shows another side of Devo, raw and intense ("Devo Man always intense..."). Thank you, GadgetMan!

    The thing about Devo is that you’re going to sound like an absolute lunatic trying to explain to non Spuds why they’re so fucking amazing. They’re extremely talented musicians. The outfits, the choreography, the precision, the AV, it all gets me right in the feels every time I think about them

    To be fair, The Cars were strongly influenced by DEVO. Hell, Greg Hawkes, in his acceptance speech at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, said, "I'd also like to thank Kraftwerk and DEVO, just. . . for being so good."
