Just been listening to DT recently, I'd heard of him before and just heard snippets of his stuff and dismissed it as kind over the top, heavy metal "wall of sound." But then I gave The Death of Music a proper listen on here on headphones and I was totally blown away. So, the lockdown has had a couple of upsides for me and discovering Devin Townsend being one of them. The Death of Music? Quite the opposite for me, Devin Townsend, thank you very much.

Devin reactions brought me in to your channel, and I am staying because I like your personality and approach. You don't pause constantly or obsess over musical minutiae such as "That was a C sharp diminished seventh with a harmonic of +72 on toast with a side of pancakes". I am sure that appeals to folks with a degree in Musicology, but the rest of us just want to share an experience with someone else who loves the songs as much as we do and get a reaction. By the way, I know, maybe it's just me, but while this arguably may be my fave Devy song, I can only hear it anymore as part of the "Funeral / Bastard / Death of Music" trilogy. The 3 songs are inexorably linked in my mind. The Royal Albert Hall version is by far the best. Please revisit this with the whole suite. It is a transformative musical experience & journey. Thanks and good luck!

@@JimNewstead Wow, I didn't know that. Good choice for a first! That would be an interesting update to do for a milestone such as x number of subs or an anniversary. You could say "I am revisiting my very first video and expanding on it for a mega-reaction!" (since it is about 25 minutes total). I know you know Devy, but I do not know if you have seen all 3 together, but I imagine you have. He packs more into those 3 songs than most bands do in an entire career. I get emotional watching it every time. Thanks so much for responding personally. I did not expect that! I watched a lot of your vids yesterday, and I think you do an excellent job. Peace and keep up the great work.

He's an amazing musician / composer and such a nice down to earth guy. When he played in Denmark some years back - on the tour for the second album in the Project series - he and the band, jumped of stage after the concert, and just had a little chat and some photos taken with us that stayed. And watching him and the Project band live was such an amazing experience.

Best part about this video? (Aside from the amazing performance by Devin) Seeing your physicality change as you listen to this song. You can clearly see how it effects you emotionally by how your body reacts as you listen. Seeing your excitement & wonder/disbelief, making it seem as though it was impossible to not squirm in you seat. It was like you didn't have the heart to even think about pausing this performance or speaking a word, as it would undoubtedly ruin the moment of the epic build up on one of the best songs ever written (IMHO). That "wow" and then immediate silence & moment of contemplation after, just perfect. Thank you for a genuine reaction video!

I had tickets to see them at the Ipswich Gaumont but on the day Bruce Dickinson had tonsillitis so the show was rescheduled and I wasn't able to go while my mates so did. That hurt! Keep talking as much as you want amigo; at least you've got something to say. Having "discovered" Devin Townsend only recently myself, I can only repeat what so many have said already and that is that this guy is so immeasurably talented, so incredibly gifted with a stupefying vocal range and a growl that has many a grizzly to go check its tonsils to see what's wrong with 'em. Plus, I don't know how he does it, but Devin seems to have a Special Well Of Emotions somewhere in his back yard, as time and time again he's able to move me profoundly. Should I have been religious, I would say Devin's proof of a god. I'm not, so I haven't got a clue what went on the day Devin was conceived. All I know is that the Devster went from complete unknown, straight into my top-five of favourite artists; although I must add it's getting crowded in there with at least ten bands in said top five. Cheers my good man.

Devin has always sought out new themes and ways to find resolution with his entire style and being. If you like Death of Music was the beginning of the journey to fully understand himself. and by the time of Empath, he has finally properly accepted all the facets of his career
