    Devin kicks out a lot of music and i'm grateful for that. He's giving the consumer more choice. If you're a fan you don't have to buy all of it, only buy what you like. He kicks out a lot of music because he likes to experiment. I love artists that have the confidence to do that. He makes music for himself primarily and for his fans secondly. Real art is about fun not money. Devin Townsend is a living legend.

    back when this album was released, Devin was at the peak of his "youtube exposure" if we can call it like that, and he was releasing A LOT of fucking stuff around this time. I think we all got spoiled from such abundance of material. It's just now in 2019 that I'm truly realizing how good this album is. Another problem is that he's one of those musicians who are ahead of their time, usually those kinds of albums don't get the deserved appreciation at time of release, only much after.

  • @teaganmaureen91
    @teaganmaureen919 жыл бұрын

    The one thing that always stood out to me about Devin is the one thing that makes me love him over all: Reaching out of "comfort zone". The variety of styles he has done in the past couple years astonishes me. And that to me, is what makes a successful artist. Someone that takes something completely out of his/her zone and molds it into their own. Devin takes so many styles and brings his element of whimsical/magical music and marries them. I listened to the entire album today (including Dark Matter) and I can say I'm pleased to see Devin is still doing his thing. My review on his music tends to lean as biases. Because yes, I'm a huge Devy fan (tattoo of the DTP logo and all), but I can't help but to once again jump to the pro side of this fight. Devin, you fucking killed it. So happy I pre ordered and got the Ziltoid t-shirt.

    I bet if Devin released the backlog of unreleased demos and b-sides (as they are, because some demos already have a very high standard), he'd double his discography over night. There are rare cases where I just can't find anything bad about something, or someone. It's like Devin and his crew made exactly the albums I wanted to hear with Z2 and Epicloud.

    This song is pretty bad ass. When my pre-order came in the first tracks that really hit my were Midnight Sun, A New Reign, and Universal Flame. The former 2 sounded a bit like Terria meets Addicted meets Epicloud meets Ghost. Those 2 are really amazing tracks and are up with his best in my opinion. This record is great. Dark Matters is just amazing, the amount of detail and the controlled chaos is brilliant.

Devins music is all different, not one album sounds the same over his whole carrer, you cant campare Devlab to Physicist or Infinity to Deconstruction and so on, see what im gettin at? so how can you make a bench mark for what Devin "sounds like".. anyways Im loving what ive heared from Z2 so far, enjoy :) LIVE LEARN LOVE!!! im not being disrepectful either, i know text can be taken out of hand quickly

    Actually the album is much more serious than it seems initially. I would say, in the beginning there is a bit of anxiety, but in the end he is sad, as if saying goodbye to someone. It's not like Epicloud and Addicted as it could seem initially.

    Devy was going through a rough time when he wrote Sky Blue and Z2. He was dealing with a lot of death during the process of writing these albums......his cat was mauled to death by a wild animal, and his mother in law passed away. A New Reign was heavily influenced by all of it as you can tell from the lyrics. That's why there are a lot of darker aspects to Sky Blue. (Devy said all this in an interview)

    RunicDragons Ok thanks. I don't have any preferences honestly. I've listen to bits of every of his stuff and I mostly like them all. :)

    I am a Christian and have been listening to Devy for years and I swear there are subtle Christian undertones to his music. His music is so uplifting, perfect mix of my religious upbringing and love of metal music!!!

    That is because religious nutcases appropriated of anything positive as their own. And also because semi-barbarian average joes treat any positive music to be "gospel music". So fuck you guys

    There are and he admits it. He uses influences of it. He's an agnostic and isn't sure about it all.

    MoRtIfIeDPeNgUiN92 Clearly not. Devy is probably against that alienation that are cellphones.

    He uses it to google the star constellation in order to find out just how astronomical the mind of Devin Townsend is.

    I hate when people say that computers and phones "alienate" people. I wish the internet and powerful computers were around when I was growing up. These things make my life better, otherwise I would probably be still locked up in my rural home town with a beer belly and going to church on sundays. Fuck you bunch of hypocrites xDD Oh, and it's sooo easy for Devin to call phones "alienating" when he's making use of all that technology to record and publicize his albums (if he did ever say that in the first place that is)

    Some of the vocal lines sort of remind me of kontrust on this one, at least as far as Devin's vocals go.

    This is the only bad song on Sky Blue. I love, LOVE the album, I think it's the best thing Dev has put out in like a decade, but this one song just freaking blows.
