Devil's Crotch - Breckenridge

This run was filmed in February 2020
Devil's Crotch is a double black diamond mogul run located at Breckenridge Ski Resort in Colorado, known as a proving ground for expert skiers. The run is fairly steep, very narrow, and also typically has pretty marginal snow conditions. However on the day I recorded, conditions were actually really nice and I was able to get a video of my second run on the infamous slope. I really love the run and it was my most difficult run for a long time. I was really bummed when I thought I had lost my footage of the run, but after some digging, I found the video on my drive and finally edited a video of it for youtube! Here's me skiing a huge "milestone" run in my skiing career!

Just found this video. Great job man ! You had a really smooth section going. The very first time I ran Devils Crouch was completely on accident and I’ll tell you what…you learn something about yourself real quick ! Skied it every time since. This run is soooo deceiving. When you first look down, yeah it looks steep but the moguls dont appear to be that bad..these are deep and the camera doesnt fully capture that. As a person that loves the speed, runs like this slow you down and really help you focus on technical aspect of it all. I applaud you.

Man, thanks so much for the comment, means a lot! Like for you this was definitely a huge milestone run for me that I didn't know too much about. I was absolutely shocked when I got to the top of it! It's definitely a run that helped me progress a lot and it's genuinely one of favorites at Breckenridge! :)

Same experience. We sort of got trapped into doing that run. It was the first run of the day on my first ever ski trip out west back in 2008. Beat me to death but I was better for it. Every run after that one was a breeze. Even climbed Lake Chutes and hit that drop in.

Hard packed moguls are the toughest so I generally wait for the afternoon Sun to soften them just a bit before skiing the black runs. If you try them first thing in the morning or late in the evening, especially late in the evening, it’s tough, and painful if you happen to fall.🙂

That's smart! Especially bump runs that face South are really nice in the early afternoon since they soften up a good bit!

Been on this run many times and it seems to go on forever. Used to ski runs like these just as you do. Took one steep and deep lesson at Jackson Hole and since that time I have enjoyed them much more. I'll be there in about seven weeks for some spring corn.

@@arjunski Boreal. I used to ski Southern California in the 90’s. Then stopped for 25 years. While staying at Squaw (Now called Palisades), I got the bug to ski again. Boreal just seemed like a reasonable option. Convinced the wife, to let me ski again. She said not without lessons. My instructor was skeptical also, but convinced them both. Had a blast after such a long time… started a at Klondike.

I've not skied Boreal but I drive past it everytime I go up to Tahoe. I'll say that Devil's Crotch is significantly harder than any run there (but still manageable for an advanced skier who's willing to take their time). Devil's Crotch is a bit more comparable to some of the more challenging bump runs at Palisades/Squaw. A good comparison would be a slightly less steep Chute 75 or a slightly narrower West Face!

@@arjunski just finished our week in Breck. The altitude was the biggest hurdle at this very enjoyable skiing resort. My Epic app says I skid 41 miles total. Peak 9, 8, 7, & 6. Greens, Blues, Blacks - No bowls or moguls. I am after all in my 50’s and still need my day job. You are right. American was a fun ride, so was Lincoln Meadows. Only thing I didn’t like about Breck was the weekend traffic and wait to the chairlifts. Thanks for the videos.

That sounds awesome! I remember that American was one of my favorite groomers at the resort when I last visited. 41 miles is a hell of a lot of skiing so kuddos on that! Honestly, if you're able to do American good next steps would be the groomed single blacks on the main face of Peak 10 (Centennial, Cimarron, Crystal, etc...) and Pika off the T-Bar (granted riding a T-Bar isn't a new experience for you!)

I do runs like this on the like the first day of my trips when im fresh. Can only summon the technical ability required for steep firm moguls with fresh strong legs lol. After that i tend to look for tree lines so i can use the naturally softer snow in there. Lol. Ive got a couple of breck videos on my page if you want to check em. Also in February, but 2018. I have a lot more footage really need to upload some more. From vail, beaver creek etc. On some really nice powder days with friends

That's 100% valid. Steep mogul chutes like this are super demanding on your legs and knees. I checked your Breck videos, they're super sick man! I'm hoping to one day catch the resort in the conditions you had in your Beyond Bowl video!

Devil's Crotch gets overhyped as a really insane run that's one of the toughest at Breck. I strongly disagree with this, however it's probably not the easiest or the toughest on E-Chair. It might not be as steep as some others but it's one of the more narrow chutes there. I'd say Mineshaft and Inferno are slightly easier since they're wider but the rest of the runs (Tom's Baby, Tom's Mom, etc...) are slightly harder!
