Don't know if you noticed, but when acquiring the Sin DT in DMC5, Vergil turns his back before stabbing himself on the painting of his family while Dante does this while looking at the painting. Just a little touch that adds a lot to both characters.

Dante & Vergils designs are not only perfectly conflicting yet complimenting but fascinating because Spardas human form is often dressed in royal purple. Demons will hint at Dante, Vergil, or even Nero having aspects of Spardas personality but its seen best visually in the Sparda costumes. The twins literally make up half of what Sparda was while Nero is the most human and emotional like Sparda. Edit: This is also seen in Nero’s design. His Dmc4 default has red and blue together while his proto/beta outfit added to Special Edition is straight up purple.

DMC 3 can be played Coop with dobbleganger style.. once you defeat the game and get "unlimited Devil trigger "or even the dobbelganger skill, Controller 2 could take control of your shadow, but unlimited DT means = you can play the whole Dmc3 with a friend. Straight from the office to the end. Some of the best memories right there!

Important note: the use of "bash" when Dante favors "party" is a reference to Vergil's line in DMC3, "I was so eager to see you, I couldn't focus on preparations for the bash". He even hits the SH at the end the same. It's a small thing but it shows the love he has for his brother, even through it all, that he either chose to ease the last shard of Vergil's selflessness in its dying moments, or said subconsciously because he never stopped thinking about him.

I noticed this too, and I'm not complaining either! DMC has carved its own place in the upper echelons of gaming and deserves all the attention it gets. I've adored this series since 2005 with DMC3 and I can't wait for the next title in the series. Hoping it's sooner rather than later. It doesn't feel like it but it's been three years since DMC5 released. That game was worthy of being called the GOTY of 2019 and one could make the argument that it's the greatest in its genre. Side note, there's a PS2 emulator out for Android called AetherSX2 and I'm doing another run of DMC3 SE on it. Can't tell you how fun it is to be able to play the game like this. God I love this series.

You're kinda wrong about Ninja Theory being confident in their Dante though. The game makes so many references to previous games (Blue Rose, achievements named after quotes, unlockable costumes that all make Dante's hair white) They're not even honest about their pride and confidence. Will edit this in case you mention it later in the video, which is still great by the way.

There's a good reason for that: It wasn't even a Dante that Ninja Theory wanted. They originally had him looking much closer to his previous designs from the mainline games (Something that you can find by looking through old concept art), and it was specifically staff from Capcom Japan (Itsuno included) that pushed the team to do the TGS 2010 design and, later, the final 2013 design. To put it bluntly, while Ninja Theory made their own mistakes along the way, Capcom Japan weren't even close to being blameless during the whole thing and were also right in the middle of all their "appeal to the West" products failing one after another either critically, commercially, or both: It's just that, by the time DMC was announced in 2010, it was FAR too late to turn the ship around in time.

DMC5 has so much good stuff! My favorites being that Nico actually looks exactly like Goddess of Time with her welding mask on and the Dr. Faust cutscene that basically eludes to the fact that Dante fooling around with new weapons is actually happening in real time every time, and that German suplex you do countering Vergil's flying attack with DT Devil Bringer as Nero - that is amazing! Oh misunderstanding on Vergil's motives - he wants power not really for survival sake, but rather to never again lose anyone/anything precious to him. Hints on it scattered throughout the media. Probably the largest one is his line to Dante in DMC3 how "Might controls everything and without power you cannot protect anyone". Not to write whole paragraph here - wiki breaks down the whole thing in detail.

As a player having 400+ hours in DMC5, I will try to explain what the "end game" experience for 5 is like, to those that aren't that familiar about the game. So the end game basically is, a fast paced action where you constantly react to enemy attack patterns, and counter that with the skill/weapon of your choice. What's different from other hard games, is that DMC adds an extra criteria to judge your combat besides efficiency/damage output, called "style". You are encouraged to do dangerously timed dodges, parries with seemingly useless skills, or utterly harmless taunting, and the game will praise you for it. So while other games you maybe spamming the most powerful attacks to obliterate bosses, in DMC(5) you are putting on a show to mock and dominate whatever stands before you. While DMC is a series famous for being hard, the series has evolved towards this "style" concept, and by DMC5 it's actually being focused more than difficulty. In fact if you are willing to, there are mechanics and weapons in DMC5 that you can just spam and win any fight with. So I suggest new players to not expect difficulty in the likes of the Souls series and aim for the efficiency, but to immerse yourself as a care-free devil hunter, mocking and fooling around with demons, as the game intends.

Thanks I needed a comment like this, because DMC5 is my first in the series. DMC5 was on a steam sale (xmas) so I picked it up recently and I've clocked 100 hours. I seem to be stuck plateauing on DMD although I A-rank most lvls on this difficulty... I've been doing it wrong, I think you're right in that DMC rewards risk taking and creativity. I was always just using safe efficient moves that are generous in terms of building style meter. But... perfect dodges/parries/guards gives so much style meter and a lot more frequently too.

When I finally found it I realized I must've found the Grand Central of disappointments. Imo it would've felt more fun if it didn't follow the first game, but came before it. Funfact: in DMC 3 there is a hidden co-op. In Doppelganger style, during Devil trigger state, hit start on 2nd controller in order to allow 2nd player to control the Doppel. After finishing the game on certain difficulty, you unlock the unlimited devil trigger so you can play infinitely in co-op all missions. Also, this co-op feature affects the final fight vs Arkham so 2nd player controls Vergil this time.

This video was incredibly well put together. You've organized it in such a way that makes it really easy to understand the timeline and what's going on in the games, without the viewer even needing to play them or having a prior understanding of the backstory. I think the points you've made throughout the video were spot-on and I couldn't agree more with your perspective. It's amazing that you took the time to not only play the games, but play them multiple times through with alternative characters and gamemodes to get a true understanding of what each title has to offer. I couldn't imagine how long this video took you to create, between playing all of the titles, recording, script writing and endless editing. Excellent work! :) I played Devil May Cry 1 and 2 shortly after their original releases back in the day. I loved Devil May Cry 1 but was heavily disappointed by the second installment for the same reasons you pointed out in the video. After this, I avoided future titles for fear of them further damaging my appreciation of the series (not realizing that Devil May Cry 3 was such an awesome game). I decided to pick up the DMC reboot when it released to give the series another try. I can't say I was disappointed, but the blatant disrespect that Ninja Theory showed throughout the game, terrible writing during cutscenes and overall changes they made to Dante's character really drew me away from the series again. It's kind of sad that I seemingly skirted around most of the really good titles in the series (DM3, DM4 and DM5) and only played the ones that didn't do justice to the series, aside from DMC 1 of course.

A little nitpicking on DMC3 section, 1. The moment you said "demon attacks Vergil". Nope it is not. That demon is the one you fight in mission 2 and goes back to Vergil to report something of some sort, Vergil is its boss there. He just doesn't care so he kills it. 2. Agni and Rudra are not Fire and Ice, they are Fire and Wind. 3. Trial in Mission 6 that you need to fight enemies and 2 power wheels to hit. They DO take damage, they just forced in Devil Triggered mode until you lit up 2 power wheels to temporary disable their Devil Trigger. You can straightly fight them as they are and they can die but it will takes very long time. 4. Right side of Leviathan's heart does not only absorb white orb, it also drains out your Devil Trigger runes. 5. Nevan uses bats not crows. 6. King switches with Rooks not Pawns. However, you should deal with Pawns firsts since if they go to the end of another side they can turned into Bishops/Knights or Rooks.

I reallly like Devil May Cry and I will be honest to admit that my favorites are: Devil May Cry - The first I played and I had a blast with this title on the PS2 back in 2001. Devil May Cry 4 - I loved the graphic upgrade thanks to the power of the new generation consoles (PS3-360), and I liked the introduction of Nero and his fighting style. Devil May Cry V - I loved the closure to the series and the ending of the Devil family (so far). Graphics and gameplay were great. By the way, I would have loved a game from the series, even a spinoff for the PSP or PSVita ... oh well. Saludos.

Something I've needed everyone to understand for a LOOONNG TIME is the coin in DMC2, and why it isn't corny at all, is summed up PERFECTLY by his line at 2:08:55 about who Dante is. The double sided coin is quintessential Dante once you see how that line connects to him using it as opposed to simply agreeing to help people.

I love when new players try my favorite game series ❤❤ couple of points and details you might of not tried or found out. You also only mention that DT boost mobility and attack power and speed but you also regenerate. Dmc3 - beowolf fight if you hit his face you can stun him. Belreul- if you diminish his flames you can also buster him and do a slam attack. Dmc4 - you should of tried buster on bosses it does amazing animations and deals a shit ton of damage alone and with DT it extends it. Frog boss- if you damage the tendril enough when it turns red you can grab it and bring the frog out. Or when you damage the frog from removing its ice spine you can grab its tongue or its tail. Ekidnah- as nero when ever she was spiting out the demons from her sack you can also buster it or when she is in the ground stunned you can buster her as well. Mephisto/faust- its actually easier to devil bring it 3/5 times and boom its in its bug form. Angus - you dont have to buster the sword flying you can just walk up to it and swing you sword. And when you stun agnus you can also buster him Credo- you can buster his shield to break it. Dante- if you run up and buster him you guys can clash and do some nice damage.

This is a really good Retrospective and I enjoyed watching it very much. Almost makes me feel nostalgic going through all the games even though I'm still a somewhat "new" fan, having played my first Devil May Cry game in 2018 but only really getting invested in the franchise after playing DMC5. I have to admit that DmC Devil May Cry was the first DMC game that I completed, I also tried DMC4 but the controls and the often fixed camera was offputing to me. But I really loved DMC5 which motivated me to go back ans play the first 4 games. I think the first and second game deserve a remake in the style of Resident Evil 2 and 3. Mostly DMC2 because it has some interesting visuals and ideas, but the gameplay is just boring. I'd also like to see Lucia back. By the way, while you're supposed to lose your many of your fights against Urizen, it is not impossible. If you do you get a secret ending which is very short and only told via text. At least you get an achivement for it. Having played DmC first without having played any of the other games before made me appreciate the thing the reboot did good or even great, and I think the Vergil DLC is a good setup for a second game which I would very much like to see as I think there is a lot of potential to tell an interesting story there and improve on a lot of short comings of the first game. I think the main games and the Ninja Theory games can co-exist.
