Vergil drops two things at the end: the Force Edge and his mother's amulet. Of the two, only one will provide any advantage to him while he fights in the underworld, that being the Force Edge. And yet, he picks up his mother's amulet instead of the weapon. Vergil, the vengeful son seeking might to conquer the demon king to avenge his loved ones, forsook power in favor of a memento from his late mother. Prepare to cry.

But...why didn't he just take them both? Why didn't he just tell Dante he's staying in Hell and take both of them with him? It seems like he took the Amulet more because he's a "Son of Sparda" rather than anything to do with his mother (was it vanity?). Or was it a reminder of both of his parents? I honestly don't know. I really wish that this side of Vergil was fleshed out more in DMC3.

One of my favorite moments on this fight is when you hit Vergil with the last strike at 10:45, he says "Dante..." It was very good delivery in my opinion, a lot of mixed emotions there. Absolutely wonderful.

Previous time i was playing dmc 3 i believe i just spammed him with stinger, like a scrub. Finished dmc 3 again few days ago and oh god, 2nd and 3rd Vergil fights was super hard for me (especially 3rd one, because when you want to roll out you more likely will jump instead)

A little late, but in my first playthrough I learned that the easiest way to defeat him is with trickster level 2 at least, since you can't have all the attacks unlocked by this point. So its best to focus on evading his attacks

The storytelling is great in this game it's just told through imagery and subtle implications and meaning you have to think to find it really I like how in so many ways Vergil was a static character who served as a foil to Dante in devil may cry 3 thier polar opposites but are supposed to be twins and Vergil embraces his demonic heritage while Dante doesn't but eventually comes to accept it and utilize it Dante was the dynamic character in this story and lady and Vergil served as his foils also lady helped him understand his humanity more I love it :) and people say devil may cry doesn't have very good storytelling they really did amp it up in this installment

@kyomaster87 Thanks I appreciate it. I usually end up wasting time killing devil-triggered Hell Gluttonies and Sloths near the end. I use switch canceling w/ E&I and Spiral to get kills on Heaven or Hell credits. My record with Dante on HoH is 436. I mix it up with a rhythm of rapid fire with E&I and switch cancelling while changing target w/ pressing L3 You can also get SS rank on Heaven or Hell by perfectly timed jumps and trickster style moves--my personal favorite methods.

You need to press jump just after the kill bee (air strike kick) hit the target then your jump is canceled and you can do something else.

Thank you for this video. I think that yours is the only video that shows anyone killing over 100 demons in DMD mode--and the only one who finished DMD Vergil 3 with swordmaster style. What's your technique for killing that many demons on DMD in the credits? How many did you kill on Heaven and Hell Mode? With your gameplay, I'm sure it was a lot. Try living this moment in real life. two brothers who were always ready to kill each other, but never did and then one of the brothers got sick and went to heaven, while the other was forced to say on earth taking the long way around. and yes we both have one sister. Except are father a very bad bad asshole. but the bond me and my brother have is a bond of honor. me and my sister miss him. as I watch this fight with dante and Virgil. it reminds me so much of me and my brother always at odds with a bond.

This fight had to be moded or something. There were moves he used that didn't exist in the game. Plus the fight seemed very watered down on Vergil's moves.

Instead of the recent re-boot they should have made a game about Sparta's story, in depth, like, including Dante's and Vergil's birth. Something like the game has a tragic ending which is the actual beginning of Devil May Cry, with Dante's mother being killed and all. Who's with me?

I always preferred trickster style against Vergil than swordmaster in all three fights.
