This is so emotional, in any other show the protagonist usually doesn't want to leave her home because she doesn't want to leave her life, her family or her boyfriend, but it's not the case here, Devi had no problem with going to another school or being away from her friends and any other love partner, it was her mother that she wanted to hold on to, and the fact that throughout the show, they don't show their relationship so much, the fact that they put it as the reason for not wanting to leave, is beautiful
I literally cried 😭 cause when u say I'll be alright on my own but we still need our moms ❤️
I wish my mom actually cared about my well-being 😭

nothing wrong with living with your mother at 50 hahaha ask any Indian-Pakistani family and they will tell you this is normal.
I did not like Devi's mom during some parts of the show when she yelled at her daughter. I get a strong reaction from her like my blood boiling, my heart anxious from the agitation from her yelling, and my eyes straining. I think that the show was dehumanizing Nalini by using all the worst qualities of a person and of Indian culture itself. Like disowning her daughter in favor of Kamala, being too critical of Devi's boyfriend (not to mention yelling at Paxton in front of Devi, and not giving Paxton a polite greeting when he was first introduced at the hospital), being someone who does not let anyone process a simple sentence, and yelling at Devi in front of her friends. She didn't seem to care about Devi on any level. This made my stress levels rise to the roof. They are not portraying Nalini as a mother who is accepting of her daughter's mistakes, but rather just a hypocritical tyrant who just thinks only of what she wants.

Dehumanizing ? Bruh she portrayed a typical Asian (more of a Desi) Parent. As an Indian - i can confirm that's how our parents usually are. It's not that they don't give a shit about us, they are angry cuz they care abt us.

@@garbagebin3693 Indian parents have a tendency to set unrealistically high standards for their children. As an Indian myself, I can't deal with that. The bad Indian accents were one thing that the show had a problem with, but showing an parent who does not care what their children go through? I swear to god, Nalini was just giving me a splitting headache just watching her. Devi had every right to wish her mother dead.

@@hotshot3518 Indian parents are that way bruh. They don't understand or gaf what their kid is going through. If you got a good one, you're lucky lol. Cuz i remember telling my mom I got my grades dropped cuz of my anxiety and she literally said this " I will buy you whatever you want to cure your anxiety if you get good grades next time " - like my mental health detoriating is not a prob as long as i study well

@@garbagebin3693 Well, yeah my mother understands when she pushes me too hard. But again, I still think the show was stereotyping Indian culture by showing how Indian parents just disown children for not doing well. I mean seriously, "That girl is not my daughter?"
