While that population growth is quasi-exponential so the future gap will increasingly grow going forward, it did take that long. Americans have been moving to the coasts and south for a long time now. Likely because agriculture and other middle country industries are more efficient, certain industries no longer need to be concentrated, etc. There have been studies (per my understanding) of the impact of affordable air conditioning. If by chance FSU & Clemson do join the BIG12, I seriously doubt te BIG12 will stop at only adding 2 ACC programs. I think Louisville, VTech, NCState, Miami would also be pursued, maybe UNC, Duke, GTech, or Syracuse. Ultimately Brett Y has shown he will be aggressive in adding any quality program that adds value and increases annual payouts to current members. 1. FSU, Clemson 2a Louisville, UNC, Duke, Miami 2b Vtech NCstate 3. GTech, Syracuse These are the programs that would actually add value to the BIG12 and increase annual payouts. BIG12 will rank them and pursue appropriately. If FSU and Clemson both join the BIG12, I can see BIG12 also adding Louisville, Miami, VTech, & NCState, which makes sense from a market share perspective. Expanding the BIG12 footprint into Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina, & South Florida. Even if FSU & Clemson dont join the BIG12, I can still see BIG12 adding 2-4 of the quality ACC programs that seek greener pastures with more future revenues, far more stability, value diversification, and less risks. Not saying BIG12 adds them all, but I dont see a future where the BIG12 doesnt add at least 2-4 ACC programs.

@@tarheel7406 I don't know how it would work. I just saw a tweet (or X?) and it looked wonderful for me, but not so great for a lot of ACC schools. It only made sense if the B1G doesn't want to add & the SEC wants to add two new states. I did wonder how two - 12 school Big 12 divisions would work. Would it be one power conference? I guess if the old ACC voted to disband the ACC they could have a lot of flexibility. With the B12W with Arizona, ASU, BU, BYU, CU, ISU, KU, KSU, OSU, TCU, TT & Utah being the Big 12 & the B12E instead of staying with that name just be renamed the NEW ACC. It would have Cinc, UH, UCF, WVU, Clemson, FSU, GT, Louisville, Miami, NCSt, Pitt & VT. The new Coastal Atlantic would have 10 including BC, Duke, Syr, WF, Tulane, SFlorida, E Carolina, Rice, Temple, Memphis and the newly created Coastal Pacific would be OSU, WSU, Colorado State, UNLV, SDSU, SMU, Cal, Stanford, Boise, New Mexico. I'm not sure how they would do the championship. 3P conferences? 4? Would they try to include the Coastal conferences and have 6 auto bids? Who knows? It's an interesting idea, if nothing else, it would silence the alignment talk for a couple years. 🙂

@@aCycloneSteve I see no problem with a separate Tier 2 with some minimal centralized governance and a separate playoff. I do see problems with centralized scheduling, sub-divisions. I also see a loss from losing separate branding/culture. If the ACC "only" lost UVA/UNC to the SEC, why would any remainders not want to then keep the status quo? I keep asking the same question. Why would OKST or KANSAS want to play KSTATE, IOWAST, TCU & BAYLOR less? Why would CLEMSON want to play VATECH, NCSTATE, DUKE & WAKE less? There will be no peer P3. Ask yourself, if the BIG12 grew very large with former PAC and ACC so that the risk of them splintering off is high, would IOWAST be included or left behind?

@@tarheel7406 I know if the XII fall apart, I'm screwed. As to why would Clemson/FSU accept anything but the best? Because at the time, that could be the best option. If the B1G & SEC say "We are not interested in you at this time, maybe later", once they are free to leave, the rest of the ACC schools know their time has come. They will be bailed on by Clemson/FSU/UNC. In that case they can wait and hope to not get screwed or be proactive. When that happens if B1G/SEC still say no they can be a top school in a P2, poach from the AAC or go independent.

The most important states in which the new BIG12 has a presence are Texas and Florida, but it doesn't have the flag or #2 in either. The BIG12 is the clear #4 in a tiered P4. The ACC will deplete down as well, but it will have better non-football aspects than the BIG12. I'm sure each will see itself as the better Tier 2, as it should be.
There are 4 other teams rumored to join Clemson and FSU, Miami Pitt Virginia and V Tech
other than the fact that the Big 12 Commision has said divisions are history, the rest are somewhat interesting.

Who knows?
