Grand Theft Auto V is a 2013 action-adventure game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. It is the seventh main entry in the Grand Theft Auto series, following 2008's Grand Theft Auto IV, and the fifteenth installment overall. When a young street hustler, a retired bank robber, and a terrifying psychopath find themselves entangled with some of the most frightening and deranged elements of the criminal underworld, the U.S. government, and the entertainment industry, they must pull off a series of dangerous heists to survive in a ruthless city in which they can trust nobody - least of all each other.

If you didn't play the PS1 games, there's no way you can fully understand how mind blowing GTA3 was. People who've experienced them all don't really care that much about the graphics because of how much freedom you're given and the amount of stuff to do besides the main storyline.

The cheats were the absolute best back in the 3D Era. Swapping your character skin in III, flying cars and cars driving on the water in Vice City, and the jet pack in San Andreas. I stopped using the cheats in IV because they got stale and I wanted a different experience with games anyway (winning because I was good and not because I cheated).

You do realize GTA 3 is a 21 year old game, right? Not everyone plays the same games so why should it be assumed they have to have played or even seen that game? Especially considering it is literally two decades old. I play videogames avidly, love them. Battlefield is a hugely popular game franchise. I have not played a single one of them, because I don't like first person shooters at all. The list of videogames that exist, indie or not, is huge. As is the list of people who work on them, and their choices as to what they work on. On that note, why be a dick and say they have "supposedly" worked games? They have. Stop being shitty.

3:00 Yeah, there are car chases, in fact, this game was going to be very different, but a programming error made the cars start to chase the player and that kind of changed the whole thing, so they pivoted from a racing game to a crime "simulator". 5:35 That's Anywhere city, it was only used in GTA 2, in the og GTA you had Liberty city, Vice city and San Andreas (which at that point was only San Francisco, unlike the later Califonia + Nevada). 6:44 You can select a top down view, but it's not enforced (nor recommended) anymore, and yeah, there's rain, duh, the freaking intro of the game takes place during a rainy night. 8:50 Yep, it was originally planed as extra content for GTA III but it kind of grew, so they made it into a full game, BTW a very important upgrade was the animations and ped bone structure, it was made of separate chunks in III but now each character is a singular model that "bends" just like any modern game does it. 10:03 That's just the film studios, not a usable UFO, that hasn't -yet- happened in any GTA. 10:07 Yep, flying was very basic and only woking for planes in GTA III, for Vice city they introduced helicopters and motorbikes. 12:51 My dude, those were a very early implementation of volumetric clouds, maybe the textures are a bit weird, but that was very high tech for such a massive game. 13:57 All the GTA's since III have a mission complete jingle. Here you missed GTA Liberty city stories and Vice city stories, also GTA III had a prequel-spinoff for the GameBoy Advance called GTA Advance, where you still played in top down view. 14:08 If you look at the Xbox port of GTA III, you'll already see realtime reflections, some basic cooked map shadows, separated fingers, dynamic water droplets dripping through the screen, rim lighting on characters, etc... is just that the PS2 was the main focus at the time, so they had to fit the graphics into that budget. 15:58 Yes, there is a health counter, hidden in the radar ring. Being elegant was the moto of this installment. 16:45 GPS navigation was kind of popular back then, so they included it in the game, with great detail BTW, as each vehicle has it's own GPS voice (or lack there of in some older vehicles) and even the radio would sound slightly differently tuned in each vehicle (as in different EQ settings). And here you missed GTA Chinatown Wars, it was also top-down but much more detailed, with a comic book artstyle, very unique game. 18:41 Well you didn't see them, but there definitelly where, most missions are either drive here and there or shoot this and the other, but there's always a good bunch of missions with custom code for specific actions and events, and the tower defense kind of shooting was easy to implement so of course they had it, the point of view was different as character models didn't have enough detail that close and maps where more spacious, so it wasn't really needed. 19:18 I totally agree with you, but GTA V had a more casual and mainstream focus, so they had to babysit the player every second, not the most elegant solution, but it is what it is.

Making some of the navigating missions harder than they're supposed to be. It's easier if there's a map menu which shows you where the mission spots are exactly but it doesn't exist until you have a map menu mod. But without it, you pretty much have to go to the direction of the mission spot, hoping for the best you're not going to the wrong road. This is one of biggest criticism of GTA 3.

15:26 “I saw, a moment ago, the different car angles… it is interesting though because, like I said, I feel like it’s not super useful. It makes it harder to drive but it also takes up a whole button.” Wow. This kind of thinking explains why Watch Dogs: Legion ditched all vehicle camera angles. There’s literally just one locked view despite the previous games having different choices. No hood view, no interior view, no cinematic, etc. I guess they’re just not “useful” even though the hood view in GTA IV genuinely helped me put the nose of the car right where I wanted it. Then she argues that it “takes up a button.” You serious my boy? Have these game devs never heard of double tapping? In Mad Max you double tapped down on the D-pad to go into first person driving. Boom, problem solved. Or you can even use a modifier where holding one button changes the actions of other buttons. I’m sorry but this video illustrates why this industry has gone to shit. Giving players more than one camera angle isn’t considered “useful” anymore. Lol “it takes up a button.” Like bro, I feel like Jim Carrey in Liar Lair where he keeps repeating, “I’ve had better” in disbelief and laughing to himself. I’m doing the same thing with that “it takes up a button” line.

Especially because you're asking them to comment as experts on things outside their expertise. A critic fit's in to the role more comfortably then. But I noticed how much respect they have to the craft of designing, which is a thing you'd be hard to find from a critic. So I thought it was great.

The same with GTA Chinatown Wars. All tho i still did not played GTA 5, nor the other modern game because... well, we have different level of life here. Also this war... it's just crazy. It really does show how far tech has gone when you go from GTA I to GTA V. Though, to really appreciate the games they should be played. Some of the atmosphere doesn't come through with video alone. My entry to the series was GTA III. The amount of freedom and the life it had, there was nothing like it back then and I fell in love with it. My PS2 became an exclusive GTA III machine because that was all I played on it. I got the PS1 version of GTA II sometime around that time expecting more GTA III, but in pixels. However, it wasn't exactly what I expected. I liked it, but GTA III definitely spoiled my experience a bit just because of how great and atmospheric it was. Plus, I liked being able to see the city skyline at the horizon from afar. Just seeing the skyline with the skyscrapers really sells the atmosphere of city life and the top down perspective doesn't offer that view. I've played every mainline GTA since and own various copies across different platforms with each one offering more of what I liked about the series.

I was a big GTA fan back then but, my love for the series fell off at GTA 4. It has a great story but it was very boring to play compared to the previous. I haven’t tried GTA 5 yet because it is rare to find anything good in my country to play it

For game developers they didn’t know much and I’m surprised they barely knew anything about the GTA franchise. It’s like if they just learned about the games while filming.

I hope these developers take notes adding background music can actually kill the immersion big time I noticed she kept commenting about background music it's probably one of the crappy details of modern games

I was 15 when the first gta game came out with the top view so yeah I've played all the top view gta games including the first third person view gta 3 it's amazing to know how technology has advanced over the last few years especially in games now when i see my nephew who like 18 play super realistic games I'm like wow that's insane attention to details

They should have reacted long ago when gta 5 was on prime. They would have loved. Now other games are ruling but those days gta 5 was the only realistic game which ruled that era. I miss those days I fucking miss those days
