To all those talking negative: It's above German television standard and we can hope for our entertainment industry that this is just the starting point. RTL was actually considering not to show this series on German TV, because they thought it's too much for their target audience: That's a good sign!

+SörensLife I'm from the Netherlands and i must say, this series' quality is many times better than the series we produce!!! then again, we do make some cool program formats like big brother and the voice.

I liked it a lot! It was a nice change both as to production and perspective. It also reminded me of my secondary school in Spain in 83, and how afraid we were of nuclear war. I live not far from what used to be an American airbase!

I’ve watched all the series of 83, 86, and 89 and really enjoyed them. They weren’t popular in the United States where I’m from but I found it interesting the East and West and German intelligence during the cold war. I also liked how they built in fact with fiction. I’d like to know if any of the characters were based on actually any spy during the Cold War?

Why wasn’t series 2 as good? The first series was so good, whilst the second one although it had the same characters which was good, I just wasn’t any and it’s good and even verged on awake at timesLike what you think being a spine is like versus the actual reality or actual real events like the second. I just left the aliveness, but it was a disappointment given how much you love the first one.

@@Ginkoman2 Do you know what this is though? It took something that was electrifying and alive, a young person's journey, and also teaching us real truths about wars and how they escalate and how it's useless - teaching us real things about the time and life, and people's personal journeys and turned it into f'ing "include the sex scene for ratings' sake" weinstein. Guh. It makes you so mad, it's like they included all the dot points of the time like the East Germans removing teeth as torture - as well as BS like sex intermingled with spying (like wtf - seriously i'm sure it's there but how much more cliche could you be) and it just lost all the heart - if it was from the heart it would look different. It just makes you so mad becuase it could have had integrity and been amazing and yeah - it was just average :/

I felt let down on the 2nd season. The plot just didn't have the same feel. It felt like a 1/3 of the show's plot line was really good. Then the rest was okay at best. I also felt Martin was wasted in the show. Starting him off in Angola was the first in a long list of bad ideas in the show for him. There was alot of potential but charecters were used incorrectly imo. Also it felt way more like an action spy show than a spy thriller. More fast paced at times.

It was really good to hear that. Stupid things include: the main character and the red head shaving like just after meeting in this stupid way, like it was Bind or something. It’s not that they can’t have sex but wtf? It was so stupid. The fact too the aunt slept w that grizzly guy to get the deal going. Also sex used in this bulls**** cliched way. Just a characters and it’s such a disappointment. All these ppl you really cared about, and then you saw them descend into like these, not obscene, but lacking any depth, situations. Like pumped out for these bs stories. Good things were the black lady trying to buy groceries and she couldn’t, or how weird the grocery system was, umm, the economics part of it was good, I forget now, but how they used Eastern German patients’ to do a dodgy trial. Overall it just list it, which is such a shame, because we all are him, young and navigating all this weird stuff for the first time, and equally showing how life was like from the German side, like I think ppl said they couldn’t believe how colourful the west was, and they had all this stuff, but drug addicts in the park no one cared about, and also show the dynamics of the war, them freaking out at certain times, the economics how shit it was, just actual reality. More of that.
