Walton Simon cant be easily circumvented. You either have to run away from him at the ocean lab and avoid him in A51 or straight up fight him in ocean lab or A51. No kill phrases for him.

@@DeadalusG No idea. Ingame image of him only lists Ballistic, Flame, Gas and Energy. In any case, if I remember correctly, NPC augmentations are scripted, so if you just dumb-fire one at him in the split second before he reaches you and starts talking, it doesn't matter.

When I did my first playthrough I had an obsession with picking up objects and throwing them around, I got a great screen shot of the US flag on the desk of the unatco office. It looks like JC is draped in the american flag. Something great about the realtime cutscenes.

What I really like are the possible locations. You could kill Anna and Simons in different instances, and even with Gunther, you're technically not limited to the one computer room, as he does chase after you if you run away. The possibilities really make this game amazing.

My favorite way to deal with him is to lure him into the vault after I've taken over the turrets. Well, that's kind of my favorite tactic overall really (including getting robots to fight for me).

With Gunther I cloaked and ran out of the room, he chased me, then lost sight as I rounded the corner, and I fired a gep gun round at him and got a one-hit kill. It was shocking how they all died in one shot tbh but I didn’t mind. I love this game.

At the first Simons scene I was expecting him to randomly say "Carry on Agent".

As soon as I heard Gunther talking big about me in Paris, I tossed a couple LAMs down the stairs and lit up a cigarette. And, of course, I found his journal later... he'd been literally crying he wanted to fight me so bad. And people wonder why the game still holds up-imagine if other video games gave you the _option_ of treating some idiot's vendetta like the joke that it is.

That fact that you can actually avoid many of those battles up to a certain point, is what really made the game awesome for me. The first time I played it I didn't realise that. But with other play troughs I noticed how many options the game gave to you as the player in certain circumstances. And I really loved it. It also wasn't forced on you as the player like many games do, chose option A or B here! It didn't treat you like a moron. You could experiment. This gave me always the feeling like the game was actually really interactive.

One way is getting Anna to open the front door - e.g. by attacking her strategically and running way. I managed to do this by accident one time (threw an emp grenade, prompted her to open the door).

Deus Ex is one of those games that's conceptually truly a genius creation, a rare gem birthed in just the right time right after The Matrix.

Something tells me that Simons's killswitch was Alt+F4

I genuinely just walked and headshoted that Howard guy with my upgraded pistol with max pistol skill and he instantly died. I found out later he was actually a boss (That was on my first playthrough BTW)

The newer version is genius. He tries to confuse and stall you by falling in place. Just as you start to catch, he makes a break for it then tries to no-clip through the wall to prevent you from progressing through the game. If only he executed his plan better...

The way I did it was firing a tranquilizer dart before they could talk to me. the dialogue gets interrupted and they just stand doing nothing. dragon's tooth kills them with one hit

"You can't take me JC, I've seen your- YAAAGHHRAGHH"

That Walton Simons fight was my favorite to try and circumvent. I'd bounce a EMP granade to him before triggering the cutscene, making him fly back further into the cave and allowing me to walk through the door without triggering the cutscene and boss fight. Then he'd chase me around the room for a little bit trying to trigger the cutscene but he eventually stopped. Just took him out with a sniper shot from across the room. Fun shit.

I've modded/played Deus Ex off and on since it's release - I have never seen that animation lock bug that Howard Strong EVER before. I wonder what caused it?

probably has something to do with being injured enough to drop/put away his weapon and run away. Granted he doesnt have room to run away so i guess he is stuck in the last frame of him holding the crowbar over his head while also being injured enough to run away without room. So stuck animation is created. my guess atleast

I'm pretty sure he's trying to throw a LAM, but the AI fails the checks to say its safe. So he ends up stuck like that.

Also entering the ocean lab stick a LAM grenade where Walton Simons will spawn in later. You know it worked when suddenly a distant explosion is heard...

Golden age of skipable boss fights if you are good enough or you searched well enough I always take GEP gun so i can end the boss fight before it even starts Killphrases are something i might not even need, but in case of other wondering where to get them Anna - Unatco HQ by logging on some computers (I think it was Manderleys and Anna's PC) with ID- archon and password- demiurge Gunther - When escaping from Unatco, dont tell the doctor to go with you, if you tell him to be a spy for you, you will meet him in Paris, in some cafee. Although if you tell him to go with you he will net you a aug upgrade canister in HK.

The amount of options/choices the game provides for dealing bosses and each level is astounding if you factor in that this was made 20 years ago... great video DAU this brought back memories.

New firmware full of amazing features. Also, while you cant speak Simons to death, you can alway just run away from him, all while he talks about his amazing firmware.

I really do hope I'm not the only one who noticed that JC was getting squished by the door while he was talking to Simons.

Almost every single boss-fight in Deus Ex ultimately comes down to "Can you hit them with your most powerful weapon before they grief you to death"

I remember firing rockets at Anna Navarre and Walton Simons before they could talk to me. Ended boss fights before they could even take place. I still had to have good aim, though. Never know if I could potentially miss and have to fight them proper.

After playing the prequel Deus Ex games, it makes me see MJ-12 in kind of a different light. I mean, Everette said "We don't need Page's commandos, weapons, crude inventions" but the Illuminati were still pretty brutal. Even if MJ12 is worse, somehow their rebellion seems more sympathetic now.

That just means you have to play it again! You always find something new in every Deus Ex playthrough.

The newer version of the firmware was an open beta, he ran into one of the few bugs they'd yet to work out.

2:17 Holy cow!!! I thought I knew "everything" about the game. I completed it around 10 times and I never met Walton Simons in Area 51! What was the prequesite? As far as I recall you had to beat him in the submarine section. Last hit had to be done with a tranqualizer or something for him to face you here or... ?

You can just walk past him at the base, I did it because I tried fighting him there and couldn't be bothered. Just ran past him with the speed enhancement and shut the door behind me. Encountered him again at area 51 and bested him in a Dragon sword duel.

"As I said to you in Paris..." I get the "If you recall our discussion" line. I guess you didn't talk to Simons at UNATCO. Howard Strong is never mentioned until the mission with Howard Strong in it. Show up at the silo, first mention. He might be mentioned afterwards at Area 51, possibly. Well, Simons isn't identified (although he is mentioned and we see him in the cutscene) either, but he is established as a character over time and various missions.

Oh okay, I wasn't sure which quote you were referring to. I've never really noticed that before. I think I just ran through the game to get to this point in order to record the talk before the boss fight, so I probably never talked to him in unatco on that save. Really? I could have sworn he was but I could be remembering it wrong. I've taken a break from playing Deus Ex these past few weeks lol.

Just turn on your Agressive defence. Simons died with LAM in his pants second after cutscene ended.

"I can't help it, I'm based on Windows Vista!"

geefreck nah gmdx is awesome, but i knda glitched my game and started a new game with ALL of my weapons incuding a maxed out lazer rifle at the statue o liberty. I've since beaten that playthrough, no lie, like 10 times! It never gets old i love this game SO MUCH!! I still have my original cds both pc and playstation 2. Gmdx 4 life!

I think there's a part where you can plant a LAM and she'll run into it in the VersaLife labs, but I might be confusing that with putting a LAM near the plane entrance much earlier in the game and killing Anna.
