The characters with smaller roles are hilarious and an absolute treasure to watch too. Easy to become transfixed watching these..

We get Montalbano in the US too on MHz TV. Much better than anything on ABC, NBC, CBS or Fox.

I love the authentic Sicilian spoken and I adore this series for its intelligence and humor. My husband is Roman Sicilian and after 11 years of marriage I've learned to speak Sicilian fluently. We spend our summers at his family's home in Catania. The Sicilian people are warm, giving, principled people.They remind me in many ways of my Cuban and Puerto Rican family. I love being a part of a big Sicilian family and my kids have the best of both of our cultures. Montalbano really captures the nuances of Sicilian culture, highlighting what is special about Sicily and her people. Love it!

My absolute favorite show when it was on on PBS in the US.

We've watched all 26 episodes of Montalbano, amazing series! They stay very close to the books and the beautiful scenery and buildings of Sicily are breathtaking. I hope there will be more to come here in the UK.

@@lenitaa7938 I think the Young Montalbano series 1 & 2 are just as good as the older one. They haven't done or released many though. I keep checking back on Amazon and just discovered collection 10 of the main series release date 23.11.2020. After 20 years they are still releasing this great series. Andrea Camilleri is a fantastic writer.. Fantastic locations and fantastic film crew and cast. A shame they keep changing the Livia character though. I preferred the Livia (Sarah Felberbaum) in Young Montalbano most. Just personal preference.. Michael Riondino plays and looks like a young Montalbano excellently. That is one location I would love to visit one day. I have developed a passion for Italian cuisine from watching Montalbano, so double thanks for that too. As well as the show..

Spent a week in Sicily back in the day, visited Palermo, Catania, Agrigento, Enna, Cefalu, Segesta, Taormina - it was early spring when I visited, cloudy, overcast, cold and rainy - but what a country; it has a unique beauty. And the food and wine are not bad either!

I have asked for the DvD for Christmas because this past summer I discovered the books and Matre Santa! They are amazing! So funny and serious and just brilliant! I cannot wait to watch it!!

Con humo de recuerdos, cuando mi madre dijo que le gustaba esta serie, pero no localicé nunca en internet, lo aviamos visto atreves de cable, pero por discrepancia en facturación lo interrumpimos para pasar al interno y no logré encontrarlo, falleció mi madre y ahora vengo encontrando esto, me llena de nostalgia, ojalá este ser a de mi , mi madre y vea esto, gracias por lograr asearme suspirar por mi madre.

Keep in mind that you can't learn Italian from Montalbano, it's more Sicilian dialect than proper grammar :) but that's it's own kind of beautiful

I have series 1 - 9 and every single episode has English subtitles, which is great. Collection 10 just became available on Amazon. Release date: 23.11.2020. Obviously I already ordered mine before posting this comment: Favolosa (F) / Favoloso (M) / Fabulous.. Young Montalbano is pretty amazing also. Michael Riondino and Sarah Felberbaum are perfect for the roles of young Montalbano and Livia.. They have only done two series of Young Montalbano so far though. Watching it while eating an Italian dinner really sets the mood. What I really miss is the interaction between Montalbano and Dr Pasquano. Sadly the very talented Marcello Perracchio passed away in 2017.

When I visit sicilia my nephew states I speak siciliano antico. My mother spoke the language to me ìn the crib and a child.Im 60 yrs old and lived in the UK. My language remained stuck in a time warp so it seems strange to my nephew in sicily. BTW he can understand me.

vivo in sicilia da 12 anni....non c'è gusto a seguire la serie se non lo parli il siciliano....e certe volte mi ritrovo delle frasi che uso tutti i giorni e magari i gesti che accompagnano il modo di parlare...ed è uno spasso...mi ha fatto capire e amare la sicilia...'sta terra beddra!

Nowadays you can also watch all episodes on MHZ tv (for a modest monthly subscription fee).

I’ve watch whenever I can. And forget not the music… it is superb bravissimi. Ay. Moltisimo perfecto.

In Common law countries (UK, US, etc) deputy prosecutors are not magistrates, but lawyers with different duties. In Italy prosecutors ARE magistrates, as the judges are, but with different duties than judges (= magistrates with judging functions).
