Detailing in Revit - 3 Step Process
Detailing is where the rubber meets the road in a set of drawings... Once we build the model with 3D elements, we cut a section and are presented with an opportunity to add the DETAILS to represent the different construction materials properly.
This Revit Tip will show you the 3 Step process for detailing:
1. Detail Components
2. Filled Regions
3. Detail Lines

Hang in there. Sometimes a project may seem overwhelming because you are looking at ALL you may need to do. My suggestion: Place the long list of tasks aside. Focus on one thing at a time. Get it done. Then, grab one more item. Eventually the list is done. I personally don't like seeing the whole list at one time either... its kinda paralyzing.
Excellent advice on detailing which is a huge time consumer for any project.
Another amazing video !
Excellent video my bro, valuable info!

This guy's funny. Good video.
hi, thank you for the great explanation, i was wondering since i am a newbie, if my detail items folder doesn't have as much components as yours, can i draw those details manually and implement them to the detail item folder.

Yes. You can create your own detail components families. Anything you need. But Revit ships with about a zillion of them. Load the ones you need into your file or template.
Hey mate. Thanks for the video. can you please make a video on creating 2D detail families with parameters? It will be really helpful

Struggling to find a brick tie detail - did you make yours and suggestions on how to best do this?
1- What to use to annotate the layers of a slab or wall?
very cool and funny man
I’m so sorry for all the questions. How do you creat this categories so you can place the components in revit to use in the details

@@miketaylor8211 i have installed those but i didnt get nominal cut lumber section detailed elements
@miketaylor8211

A nominal cut lumber detail component is really easy to make. It’s just 4 lines around the perimeter and and X. Make one is my suggestion. :)
Would you by chance know where I can download the same detail items you have I seem to be missing a bunch that you have. Thanks!

Charles, I made all those. they are Easy Peasy. You only need to make them once... Once you make one... you can use it in any project if you add it to your template!

@@miketaylor8211 thanks for replying, for some reason revit didnt upload all the detail item families for me but I found them in a different folder so I've been manually adding families that I need. Your video was super helpful I feel the hardest part with most things is finding a good workflow that is repeatable and your video helped me get there regarding detailing details for the firm I work for. Making the transition from autocad to revit has been a big learning experience. Thanks!
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Sifu, how do you organize the details in groups on your browser? For example, a group of wall sections?
@miketaylor8211

Grasshopper!!!! So great to hear from you! You can make many ‘groups’ for the Details. You can make: Roof Details, Stair Details, Etc. I think I have a video on how to organize your Views into Groups!! I’ll check and then let you know what it’s named.
