Texas State plays UTSA and ASU at home Liberty has the easiest path, and TSU has the second easiest - but these teams likely MUST go undefeated to even have the possibility of making it. Its gonna be hard to claim that Louisville's schedule is clearly harder than Memphis, Tulane and Boise. If nobody goes undefeated and unless Memphis beats FSU, or Tulane beats OU - any MWC that wins 10+ games is probably gonna be in it, cuz the conference continues to played yoked OOC schedules and just for fun now Oregon State and Washington State are considered an additional OOC game (so nearly every MWC team plays at least 5 OOC games) - these are in addition to playing: - Oregon, Michigan, Utah, USC, Texas, Colorado, Kansas, UH, Cincinatti, Baylor, Auburn, Wisconsin, Arizona, Arizona State, UCLA, A&M, Syracuse, UNC, Stanford, Cal, BYU, Washington, Michigan State, SMU, Ole Miss, and Minnesota - almost all of which are road games....

Actually they wouldnt have until 2011, because they constantly got screwed on rankings.... 2002 the BCS didnt even rank them (AP had them at #12; Coaches had them at #18) 2004 they were ranked #7 - 6th highest ranked champion 2006 they were ranked #9 - 6th highest ranked champion 2008 they were ranked #8 - 6th highest ranked champion 2009 they were ranked #6 - 5th highest ranked champion 2010 they were ranked #7 - 6th highest ranked champion 2011 they were ranked #6 - they were the 4th highest ranked champion. Given how bad the BCS was at ranking G5 teams they very well could have been #12 in a 12 team playoff in almost all of these years - in which case the #5 team would have such a mindf&ck of a game.

And played top 10 teams in all of these years going 6-2 in those games - the two games they lost were by 5 total points..... The craziest thing is from a ranking standpoint the lowest teams would be 2006 and 2010. Oh boy do want these hands? You got 06 BSU ranked #1 in offense, #10 in defense, averaging a 29 MOV with 2 Top 20 wins, including over the B12 champ. Or you got 10 BSU ranked #2 in offense, #2 in defense averaging nearly 27 MOV with 4 Top 25 wins including over the ACC Champ.

Boise State most likely will lose on the road at Georgia Southern. They are better than many think. Plus Clay Helton is their coach. I think Boise State starts off 0-2 but finish with a 9-3 record or 8-4. If two conference games were flipped, I would say Boise could lose first two games but not bad in either and then run the table to a 10-2 mark. But I don’t think they go unscathed in conference play. They are not going to be 8-6 like last season but 11-1 or 12-0 or 10-2 is not realistic this upcoming season or extremely attainable. If they win at Georgia Southern but get crushed by Oregon, they could go 10-2 and win conference championship and maybe get the G5 playoff spot. But there are 3-4 conference games where 1-loss is inevitable and two or three possible; who is why I say no worse than 8-4 and unless playoff game, win their bowl game.

The only way to assure that the new CFP is competitive is to make all 12 playoffs spots at-large teams. No conference champions get auto bids. Let the committee choose what they feel are the best 12 teams. Why? Because the SEC champs and the Big 10 champs would be quality teams. Not so much for the other conference winners. At present, this format seems to suck.

The 5 seed will be the top “at large” and that would almost certainly be a conference title game loser for the SEC or B10. With divisions thankfully being gone , conference titles will be “best 2” so it’s unlikely a 3rd best team would jump the runner up for a 5 seed.

If it was an actual 12 team playoff they would have put SMU ahead of Liberty. Liberty played in an FCs level conference while SMU played in the best g5 conference. SMU’s only losses were to p5 teams while Liberty didn’t play a single p5 team

There is no contractual language that includes this term (the very reason FSU was named "so-called P5" and why the specific language of the playoffs are "5 conference champions" and not 4 P5 champs and 1 G5 champ) - it is and has always been a made up term by media companies. So to not allow 5 conferences from playing for a championship in a league they literally play in is textbook monopolistic behavior. The moment you do this, the NCAA, CFP and whatever institution holds the playoffs will get hit with a astronomical anti-trust lawsuit by every G5 university. That’s not how it works, sorry dude. ND can only get an at large bid and that’s why the highest seat they can get is the 5 seed even if they are ranked #1, the G5 top conference champion is 100% getting in no matter what.

So the 5th seed team is likely Notre Dame or the loser of the SEC championship game. The highest ranked group of five team simply cannot compete with that level of talent. And this will not be some meaningless bowl game, where Boise State beat Oklahoma, years ago. This is for the playoff. They’re going to get crushed.

Ya know funny cuz for 15 years the P5 was all about their automatic qualifier bs in the BCS. Kinda like how B10 Runner Up Ohio State STOLE a BCS bowl from #7 12-1 WAC Champ Boise State - despite BSU having more ranked wins, better ranked wins, better offense, better defense, and the #1 margin of victory in the sport.

What's the point of a G5 team getting in? Pointless IMO.

Everyone seems to forget that 2 years ago Tulane, the highest ranked G5 champion went into a NY6 bowl and beat the Heisman winner QB. Crazy shit happens which is why you gotta play the game

The 5 seed is not a “sweet spot”. You’re setting yourself up to play the 1 seed

Notre Dame deserves shit for not being in a conference, period! They don't have to worry about losing their final game or 1 more game to have injuries on their squad! They get special fucking treatment because of name and faith alone! Literally almost every other team has to run the route of a conference championship win or lose, but ND doesn't! If I were the one calling the shots, they would either join a conference or be setting at home while everyone else plays their ass off for 1-4 more games! Independent and ivy league schools are a joke! Join the power 4 or get left behind, it's that simple!

If other teams could make it work they would. Don’t hate - ND has stayed independent while other teams joined conferences because their brands were not as individually valuable. ND’s is. Go Irish!

@@brendancordial3483 are you ignorant? So teams like Tennessee who makes more than most in athletics, or Bama, US, Michigan, Texas ect... They all make more than ND on an annual basis and all have to play in a conference championship where they have 1 more chance to lose by playing a damn good team! All while ND sets on their ass and gets shit handed to them in the post season! Most people out there hate ND just because of that, because they don't earn their post season standing! As for the catholic part, I'd hate to have to worship a false idol. The lord and savior is Jesus, God and the holy ghost, Not his earthly birth vessel! ND sucks d-bag!

It could be a bad year for other conferences this year sec and big 10; r going to chew each other up big 12 will beat themselves acc has an unbalanced schedule so has to say but acc could find a third team in this year

Oregon would want to be the 6 seed. That’s if ohio state and UGA are the 1 & 2 seeds, since UGA and OSU would choose the east coast quarter final games, leaving the west coast games for the 5 and 6 seeds. And the other reason UO would want to be the 6 seed is because they would likely get the cotton bowl giving them a better chance than having to play Ohio state or UGA in Florida in the Orange Bowl..
